2006 Falcon Players of the Week

Offense: Forward Ashley Peterson (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn. Forest Lake HS) scored two goals in a 5-3 loss against UW-La Crosse on Saturday at Ramer Field. Peterson scored her first goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half and then tacked on another at 83:24. She finished the regular season with 17 goals and 43 total points. "Ashley finished both of her chances in the game," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. "She has been clutch for us all season."
Defense: Defender Kelly Piersak (So., Shoreview, Minn.) played well on the defensive end in a 5-3 loss to UW-La Crosse Saturday at Ramer Field. Piersak has been a force all season and will definitely help the Falcons in the playoffs. "Kelly has made great strides since being moved to defense," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. "She continues to play at a very high level." |

Offense: Midfielder Kim Saufl (Sr., Champlin, Minn. Champlin Park HS) continued her aggression on offense as she led the Falcons with two shots in a 3-0 loss to Eau Claire. Saufl also had two shots against St. Benedict in a 2-1 win and assisted on a Julie Sperstad goal in a 2-1 loss to St. Olaf. "Kim has an amazing work ethic," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. "Her level of play is equal to All-American caliber."
Defense: Defender Tracy Olson (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) continued to anchor a Falcon defense that saw 56 shots against them in the past week. Olson helped limit St. Benedict damage in a 2-1 River Falls win. She also aided to keep games close against Eau Claire and St. Olaf. The Falcons lost to Eau Claire 3-0 and were edged by St. Olaf, 2-1. "Tracy continues to be a tremendous leader and force on our defense," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. |

Offense: Midfielder Amy Jensen (Sr., Plymouth, Minn. Bloomington Kennedy HS) played two solid games for the Falcons in the team's 1-0 win over Stevens Point and 2-1 loss to Bethel. Jensen scored the only goal of the game in the team's 1-0 win over UWSP on Saturday in Stevens Point. She scored off a rebound at 73:24 to help the Falcons to the win. In the two games Jensen had five shots. "Amy has been able to provide us with offense at key times this season. I am excited to see how she finishes out her senior season," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. This year Jensen is third in scoring for UWRF with five goals and 14 points.
Defense: Midfielder Julie Sperstad (Jr., Eau Claire, Wis. Memorial HS) played well in two games for the Falcons in the team's 1-0 win over Stevens Point and 2-1 loss to Bethel. Her defensive played helped limit Bethel to 11 shots and UWSP to 13. "Julie has been a constant force for is in the defense for the past two and a half years. She is a physical player who wins every ball in her space; she is one of the toughest players to come through our program," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. This year Sperstad is fifth in scoring for UWRF with one goal and five points. |

Offense: Forward Ashley Peterson (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn. Forest Lake HS) played a key role in the Falcons two conference victories against Stout (3-0) and Platteville (3-2). Peterson recorded three goals and three assists over the two-game span. She scored twice, and had one assist, at Stout and came back with a goal and two assists against Platteville. She was involved in every Falcon goal. "I think playing with Kim (Saufl) up front makes it fun for her," said Falcon Head Coach Sean McKuras. "We are seeing a lot of benefits since moving Ashley up front." She currently leads the team in scoring with 12 goals and 33 points.
Defense: Goalie Emily Stieler (Fr., Ham Lake, Minn. Andover HS) recorded her fifth shutout of the season against Stout (3-0) and played well in goal in a win against Platteville, 3-2. Stieler has been in goal for every Falcon game and has a 7-2-2 record. "She is showing more confidence every week," said Falcon Head Coach Sean McKuras. She had six saves in each game. She currently has a 0.79 goals against average. |

Offense: Midfielder Amy Jensen (Sr., Plymouth, Minn. Bloomington Kennedy HS) played two fine matches for the Falcons last week. She scored the game-winning goal in the team's 2-1 win at Carleton. She had two shots in that contest. " Amy has really turned it on with offense over the past few weeks scoring goals in consecutive games. She is a great leader on and off the field," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. This year she has four goals and 11 points for the Falcons. She has had 31 shots.
Defense: Midfielder Jen Terry (Shoreview, Minn. Totino-Grace HS) had two more excellent games for the Falcons last week. She scored the team's only goal in a 2-1 loss at Oshkosh on Saturday. She also had a shot in the match against Carleton. Jen has had to change positions a few times for us but always finds a way to contribute. She played a solid defensive game against Carleton and helped in transition at Oshkosh where she scored," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. This year Terry has three goals and seven points. She has had nine shots during the season. |

Offense: Forward Ashley Peterson (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn. Forest Lake HS) helped lead the Falcon offense to two wins last week, including a 4-1 win over Superior in WIAC play. She led the offense scoring three goals in each contest. Against Superior she scored the team's first three goals; her second goal was unassisted and was the game-winner. Against St. Catherine she scored the team's first, third and sixth goals. She also picked up an assist on the team's fourth goal. " Ashley has the ability to change the game," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. She currently leads the Falcons with eight goals and 20 points.
Defense: Defender Betsy Straub (So., Rosemount, Minn.) was one of the team's defensive leaders in the Falcons two wins last week, including a 4-1 WIAC win over Superior. The Falcons allowed only one goal in the two games. Straub, who has started all seven matches for the Falcons, kept the opponents offense off balance throughout both matches. "Betsy continues to be one of our top players," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras. The Falcons have allowed only four goals in seven games. |

Offense: Forward Ashley Peterson (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn. Forest Lake HS) played an important role in the team's 2-1 WIAC win at Whitewater on Saturday. Peterson, 5-2, scored the game-tying goal in the 20th minute. She then assisted on the game-winning goal that came in the 31st minute. She is second on the team in scoring with two goals and seven points this year.
Defense: Defender Tracy Olson (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) helped shut down the Whitewater offense in the team's 2-1 WIAC win on Saturday. Olson, 5-5, helped limit UWW to seven shots on goal in the game as the Falcons opened their WIAC season with a win. |

Offense: Midfielder Dianna Hermes (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) played well in two games for the Falcons last week. Against Macalester she started and recorded two shots in a 2-0 loss. She also started against Augsburg and had two shots. "Dianna has been working hard in making the transition to the outside midfielder position," Falcon Coach Sean McKuras said.
Defense: Goalie Emily Stieler (Fr., Ham Lake, Minn. Andover HS) has played every minute in goal for the Falcons in the 2006 season. She made seven saves in a 2-0 loss to Macalester. Against Augsburg she made five saves in a 0-0 overtime tie. "Emily posted her third shutout of the season against Augsburg and is becoming a vocal leader as well," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras.

Offense: Midfielder Kim Saufl (Sr., Champlin, Minn. Champlin Park HS) started the 2006 season strong scoring three goals and gathering an assist in the team's 7-0 win over Northland. She scored at 45:23, 50:28 and 53:53. Her assist came on the team's first second goal at 25:28. "Explosive is the way to describe the way Kim played," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras.
Defense: Defender Jessi Larson (Fr., Winona, Minn. Cotter HS) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the team's 7-0 win over Northland. She scored her first collegiate goal at 15:45 from just inside the box off a corner kick. "Jessi started both games and came up with a big goal against Northland," Falcon Coach Sean McKuras said. |
