Six members of the Falcon men's hockey team have been named to 2007 All-WIAC teams and Falcon Coach Steve Freeman was named the league's Coach of the Year. Named to the first team were goalie AJ Bucchino (Jr., Bow, N.H.), forwards TJ Dahl (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) and Derek Hansberry (So., Arvada, Col.) and defenseman Jim Henkemeyer (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.). Forward Pat Borgestad (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) and defenseman Chris Robinson (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) both earned honorable mention. Bucchino, who was named to the 2006 first team, played in all 25 regular season games for the Falcons and finished with a 19-4-2 record. He has a 2.22 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. He recorded one shutout. Bucchino was named the NCHA's Player of the Week three times during the season. In 43 career games he has a 29-9-5 record with a 2.16 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. He has three career shutouts. He made a season-high 43 saves in a 3-1 win over St. Olaf. He made 24 saves in a 3-0 shutout of Stevens Point. Bucchino also has two assists. Henkemeyer, who earned honorable mention to the 2006 team, scored eight goals and has 22 points. He has scored seven power-play goals and two game-winners. He leads the team in power-play points with 20 (7-13). Henkemeyer has 14 goals and 38 career points. He was named the NCHA Player of the Week on Dec. 4. UWRF has a 4-1 record when he scores a goal. Henkemeyer scored one goal and four points in the team's 10-2 win over St. Mary's on Dec. 12. Hansberry, who was named to the 2006 first team, led the Falcons with 20 goals and is second in the team in points with 33. He led the team with nine power-play goals and five game-winning goals. Hansberry has 37 career goals and 66 career points. He has had nine multiple point games this year and he has had 19 career multiple point games. He scored two goals and five points in the team's 10-2 win over St. Mary's on Dec. 12. Hansberry has twice been named the team's Player of the Week. He is third on the team in power-play points (9-5-14). The Falcons are 11-1-1 when he scores a goal. He has three multiple point games this year and seven in his career. Borgestad, who earned honorable mention to the 2006 team, is third on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 26 points. He is second in goals. He has scored five power-play goals and two game-winners. He has had eight multiple point games this year and has had 14 in his career. Borgestad picked up four assists in the team's 10-2 win over St. Mary's on Dec. 12. The Falcons are 9-3-1 when he scores a goal. He has scored 27 career goals and 53 career points. Robinson finished the regular season with two goals and four points. He is an outstanding defensive defenseman and played in 24 regular season games. He scored his first collegiate goal in a 4-3 win over Stevens Point on Nov. 18. Freeman has earned the WIAC Coach of the Year award six teams. He also won the award in 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003 and 1998. Freeman helped lead the Falcons to the team's fourth straight WIAC championship in 2007. He earned his 200 th career win at UWRF when the Falcons beat Lawrence, 6-4, on Oct. 28. Freeman also led the 2007 Falcons to the NCHA regular season championship and a first round NCHA playoff win over Lake Forest. The Falcons, who finished the regular season with a 19-4-2 record, won the WIAC championship for the fourth straight season with a 7-1 record. It was the University's 13 WIAC hockey championship. UWRF also won the NCHA regular season title with a 10-3-1 record. |
