Falcon volleyball player Lindsey Mace started playing volleyball after watching her older sisters play the game.

"I would practice with them a lot," said Mace of her years growing up. "They definitely influenced me to continue on with the game."

After the initial spark, Mace went on to prove to be a solid force in the game. She went on to high school where she was greatly pushed by her coach to become a better all-around player.

Mace attended Hastings High School where she was not only the team captain, but also the Most Valuable Player.

Mace was a multi-sport athlete as she balanced basketball, track & field and volleyball with her studies. She chose to stick with volleyball because that's the sport where she had the most fun times. If she were to choose another sport to play in college it would definitely be basketball.

After high school Mace came to UW-RF to play for Coach Patti Ford. She has not disappointed anyone.

"Lindsey is one of our best passers," said Ford. "She is one of the most underrated players in the WIAC."

Mace, the team's libero, has led the Falcons in digs the past two seasons with 510 in 2005 and 523 in 2004. The 523 digs puts her fifth in digs in a season. And she will challenge for the No. 1 spot in the Falcon records book for career digs.

After a disappointing 2005 campaign where the team finished in eighth place in the WIAC, Mace along with the rest of team, have goals of competing for the conference crown.

The Falcons have a year of experience they did not have in 2005   which will hopefully aid their effort.

Mace, along with other key senior returnees, have the skills and talents to vault the Falcons into the upper echelon of the rugged WIAC.

In her spare time, Mace enjoys hanging out with friends and just relaxing.   She did not admit to having a hobby other than her love for animals, especially her kitten Fuzzy.

Mace also admitted jokingly to being a self proclaimed "hardcore studier."

"I am very excited about this year," said Mace. "My expectations for myself are very high because I have played for three years. I know the ins and outs of the game pretty well."

"As a team I think we can get first (place) in the WIAC and hopefully make it to the Final Four and win a National Championship."

Mace is majoring in health & human performance and will definitely miss River Falls following graduation.

"I will coach basketball for sure," said Mace of her years following graduation. "I will be a physical education teacher and hopefully stay around this area."
