Falcons Take 8th in Season Closer Oct. 8, 2006 The Falcons end the 2006 season with a combined score of 816 from Saturday and Sunday of the WIAC Women's Golf Championship. Eau Claire led the tournament after day one on Saturday with 319 strokes and won the tournament after day two Sunday with a total of 660 strokes. The team also won for the first time ever an automatic invitation to the NCAA Division III Championship, which will be held May 8-11, 2007 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Oshkosh and Whitewater held second and third places from day one and managed to hold off Stevens Point from their places after day two. Oshkosh shot 668, Whitewater a 674, and Stevens Point took fourth with 686 strokes. Falcon Jenna Gutzwiller led the Falcons with a five-way tie for 22nd place shooting a 92 on the first day. Gutzwiller ended the tournament in a tie for 28th place with 189 strokes. Torie Ives of Eau Claire shot one of the all-time top scores in the WIAC with 73 strokes (the course is a par 72) Saturday. Ives and Jennifer Young of Oshkosh tied for the tournament win Sunday; Ives and Young shot a 158. Stephanie Campbell of Whitewater followed in close pursuit of a three-way tie for first place with 159 strokes, which put her in third place. Falcons Katie Kantrud, Courtney Swanson, and Alana Peterson ended day one in similar circumstances. Katrud shot the best of the three tying for 41st after day one with 100 strokes. Kantrud managed to claim 39th place shooting for a total of 198. Swanson had a nine-stroke improvement from day one and shot for a total score of 209 day two and moved into 43rd place from 45th place after day one. Falcons Will Approach Day Two of the 2006 WIAC Women's Golf Championship in 8th Place Oct. 7, 2006 The Falcons shot 412 strokes as a team today in the first day of the WIAC Women's Golf Championship. Eau Claire leads the tournament after day one with 319 strokes. Eau Claire has golfed well throughout the 2006 season and is a prospect for a national invitation this spring. Oshkosh holds second place with a score of 332 and Whitewater trails slightly with 335 strokes into day two of the tournament. Falcon Jenna Gutzwiller leads the Falcons with a five-way tie for 22nd place shooting a 92 on the first day. Torie Ives of Eau Claire shot one of the all-time top scores in the WIAC with 73 strokes (the course is a par 72) that swung her into first place for individuals heading into day two. Jessica Thompson of Eau Claire follows Ives with 76 strokes and Stephanie Campbell of Whitewater holds third place with a score of 78. Falcons Katie Kantrud, Courtney Swanson, and Alana Peterson end day one in similar circumstances. Katrud shot the best of the three tying for 41st after day one with 100 strokes. Swanson shot a 109 putting her in 45th at the present and Peterson follows closely with a score of 111, enough for a tie in 46th place. Falcons in 8th, Gutzwiller Tied for 18th After Day One of Stevens Point Invitational Sept. 30, 2006 The Falcon golf team is in eighth place after the first day at the Stevens Point Invitational In Saturday's first round the Falcons finished with 406 strokes. Eau Claire is in first place finishing with a score of 322, while host team Stevens Point follows with a close score of 329. Jenna Gutzwiller finished well shooting a 44 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine giving her a score of 17 over par 90. Gutzwiller leads the team into the second day of the tournement and is tied for 18th place. Falcon Katie Kantrud ends day one with a 96 and is in 33rd place. Katie Borman of Eau Claire is currently in first after she shot a 78. Rachel Foley was next for the Falcons with a round of 106 and she is in 42nd place. New to the Falcon roster, Alana Peterson, finished at 113 and is in 43rd place. Megan Sandell, who shot a 114, ended the day in 44th place. The Falcons will compete on Sunday in the second day of the Stevens Point Invitational. The first group will be sent out at 9 a.m. at the Stevens Point Country Club. Falcons Compete on the Most Difficult Course of the Season Sept. 24th, 2006 After a change in tournament structure due to poor weather conditions on Saturday; the Falcons competed in a 18 hole tournament at the Troy Burne golf course Sunday. The course, a Par 72 at 5807 yards, was conquered by Gustavus with a score of 334 for a first place finish. The Falcons finished 15th overall with a score of 441. Second and third places were taken by Wartburg 335, followed by St. Thomas with a score of 342. Jenna Gutzwiller led the Falcons golfing a 107 enough to tie for 60th . Rachel Foley and Katie Kantrud shot a 110 putting them in a tie for 63rd. Falcon Courtney Swanson shot 114 and Megan Sandell, a new member of the RF golf team, shot a 133 in her first competitive meet. The individual was won by Breanne Staples of Gustavus shooting a 77. Next for the Falcons is the Stevens Point Invitational Saturday September 30th and Sunday October 1st at the Stevens Point Country Club. Tee time begins at 8:00 a.m. both days. First Day of Division III Midwest Classic Postponed Sept. 23, 2006 Due to severe weather conditions and poor course conditions, the Division III Midwest Classic first round was cancelled on Saturday. The tournament will move to a one-day, 18-hole format on Sunday. Division III Midwest Classic will start at 8:30 a.m. at Troy Burne golf course. |

Golf Team Improves by 27 Strokes; Place Fourth at UWO Invite Sept. 10, 2006 The Falcon golf team improved by 27 strokes on the second day of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational and finished in fourth place in the meet played at the Eagle Creek Golf Course. The Falcons shot a team score of 414 on the first day and were in sixth place. On Sunday the Falcons shot a 387 to finish at 801 and in fourth place. The 387 was the fourth lowest round of all teams competing on Sunday. The 27-stroke improvement was the best of any team in the tournament. Par for the course is 73 and the course measures 5,818 yards. Three Falcons shot better scores on Sunday. Rachel Foley had the biggest improvement. After a 111 on Saturday, she shot a team-best 89 on Sunday to finish at 200 and in 31st place. She improved by 22 strokes. The 89 is the best round by a Falcon this season. Jenna Gutzwiller finished in 18th place. She had a round of 92 on Sunday after a 95 on Saturday and had a 188. Katie Kantrud improved her score by three strokes. She shot 101 on Saturday and followed that with a 98 on Sunday for a 199 total. She placed 28th. Courtney Swanson shot two consistent rounds. She had a 108 on Sunday after a 107 on Saturday. Her 215 total placed her 37th. Stevens Point won the team title with 695 followed by Oshkosh 697, Whitewater 711, River Falls 801, Superior 804, Carroll 808, Ripon 837, St. Norbert 841 and Platteville 850. Golf Team in Sixth Place at UWO Invite Sept. 9, 2006 The Falcon golf team is in sixth place after the first day of the Oshkosh Invitational being played at the Eagle Creek Golf Course. Jenna Gutzwiller was the top golfer for the Falcons on Saturday with a 46-49 - 95. She is in 19th place. Katie Kantrud shot 50-51 - 101 and is in 30th place. Courtney Swanson shot 60-47 - 107 and is in 38th place. Rachel Foley shot 57-54 - 111 and is in 40th place. Par for the course is 73 and the course measures 5,818 yards. Stevens Point held the team lead with 349 strokes followed by Oshkosh 353, Whitewater 360, Superior 396, Carroll 399, River Falls 414, Platteville 418 and Ripon and St. Norbert woth 419 each. Golf Team Opens Season at UW-EC Invite Sept. 2, 2006 The Falcon golf team opened its season at the first day of the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday and are in 19th place. Katie Kantrud led the Falcons with 45-46 - 91. She is tied for 67th place. Jenna Gutzwiller shot 47-48 - 95 and is tied for 88th place. Rachel Foley shot 50 on both nines and her 100 total has her in a tie for 98th place. Courtney Swanson shot 59-61 - 120 and is in 115th place. The four-member Falcon team shot a team score of 406 at the par 72 Mill Run Golf Course. Gustavus Adolphus holds the team lead with 311 strokes.
