Zweifel Named Assistant Football Coach |
Stan Zweifel has been named assistant football coach at UW-River Falls according to Athletic Director, Rick Bowen. " It is rare that an opportunity presents itself to hire a man of Stan Zweifel's talents and abilities," said Bowen. "I am extremely excited to bring Stan back to his alma mater as UW-River Falls offensive coordinator. Stan's ability as a coach and a recruiter will reap immediate benefits to our football program. This is an exciting time for our University and football program; a first step in our commitment to bring winning football back to UW-River Falls. I think Coach Zweifel will make an immediate impact. Falcon Coach John O'Grady and I are very excited to welcome him to UWRF." Zweifel was the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach/wide receivers coach at UW-Whitewater since 1991. UW-Whitewater finished as NCAA Div. III national championship runners up in 2005 and 2006. The Warhawks won WIAC championships five times during his career. UWW finished a perfect 7-0 in each of the last two seasons and compiled a 28-2 overall record during that span. UWW set eight WIAC offensive records in the past two seasons and led the WIAC in scoring offense and total offense in each of the past two years. Zweifel was named the WIAC assistant football Coach of the Year in 2005 and 1997 by the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association. He was a finalist for the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2003. Zweifel has written seven books and published 35 videos about offensive concepts. Zweifel is known around the country as one of the finest offensive coaches, teaching the zone concept. Many high school and college coaches consult with him to find out the proper teaching progressions needed to run that type of offense most effectively. During his playing days, Zweifel was a wide receiver at UWRF and led the team in receiving for two seasons. He also led the team in scoring in 1973. He was a four-year letter winner in football and baseball. Zweifel coached high school football at Markesan and New Ulm, Minn., followed with a stint as the offensive coordinator at Northern Colorado University and as head coach at both Yankton College and Minnesota-Morris before going to UW-Whitewater. He replaces Kevin Bullis, who resigned in November. Besides coaching football, he will also teach in the UWRF health & human performance department. Zweifel earned his undergraduate degree from UWRF in 1975 and a master's degree from Minnesota State Mankato in 1981.
