Breamber Syverson

UWRF Sports Information

Breamber Syverson, a senior and the second baseman for the Falcon softball team, has played the 2007 season like the wily veteran she is.

"Breamber has been starting at second base since her freshman year and hasn't missed many games," says Falcon Coach Faye Perkins. "Breamber is serious about playing ball and winning games but also likes to have a good time and not take things too seriously. As the only senior on the infield, Bre is a leader. She knows what she needs to do and she does it - she's a great role player on the team."

This year her team goal was to finish at the top of the WIAC and her individual goals were to play errorless ball and have less than 10 strikeouts.

Syverson surpassed last year's sacrifice mark and finished the season with 24. She has been hitting near the .300 mark all year and scored 25 runs. She led the WIAC in sacrifices and stolen bases with 17.

Last year, Syverson hit .277 in 41 games and finished fifth in the NCAA Div. III in sacrifices with 19. She had one home run, two RBI, scored 22 runs and walked seven times. She stole five bases and had a sparkling .975 fielding percentage. She made only four errors in 163 chances and was named the team's Player of the Week once.

"She has outstanding defensive skills and can cover a lot of ground with her quickness.   Offensively, Bre is a "spark plug" with her left handed slapping and speed on the bases," says Perkins. "Hitting in the No. 2 spot, she was one of the NCAA Division III national leaders in sacrifices last year."

Syverson, originally a Spanish education major, will now graduate in health and human performance option two: exercise and sport science with a coaching minor. Her plans after graduation include finding a job in sports management working with a professional sports team and possibly coaching at a collegiate level.

Among those she admires, Syverson gains inspiration from her family and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Farve because he "never misses a game and is always for the team," she says.

She enjoys watching Wisconsin sports teams - Brewers, Badgers, and Packers - and playing various sports herself. She also likes team gatherings, Florida spring trips, and winning in extra innings.

Syverson has enjoyed the people and college life here at River Falls. The school is a "smaller campus and close to home," she says. Some of her favorite professors have been Deb Allyn, Patti Ford and Jeff Berkhof.

Syverson is originally from Prescott, Wis., and is the daughter of John and Julie. She three younger siblings:   Jaden, 17, Mason, 10, and Katressa, 1.
