Stocker Added to Falcon Track & Field Coaching Staff

June 21, 2007

Steve Stocker has been added to the UW-River Falls track & field coaching staff, according to Falcon Head Coach Martha Brennan.

Stocker, who will coach sprinters, competed with the Falcons as an undergraduate and is a four-time NCAA All-American. He won the WIAC 400-meter hurdles title in 1993 with a record setting time of 51.45. That record still stands today. He was the head coach of the River Falls High School boy's track & field team for 10 years. He coached both boys and girls sprinters for 11 seasons. Stocker has coached five Big Rivers Conference champion winning teams, 63 conference champions, 61 state qualifiers, and three state champions. His teams have virtually rewritten the record books holding 31 indoor and 34 outdoor school records. Stocker is the director of the Hunt Arena and Knowles Recreation Center at UWRF.

"After three years of working with the team I need to have more coaches involved. The timing is right and I know Steve will make the program stronger," said Brennan. "I want both teams to experience the success the women's team had this year and I know that an additional staff member will improve our chances of being more competitive in all areas in the WIAC. Steve is very well respected in the area and I look forward to working with him next year."

The Falcons had five NCAA All-Americans in 2007. The women's team placed third in the WIAC outdoor meet and ninth in the NCAA Div. III outdoor meet. The ninth place finish is the team's highest ever.
