By Nathan Martinson Nathan Renk is a strong force on the vast improving Falcon defensive line. Renk feels that the defense is getting better every game and that fans have to seen anything yet. "Renk has been a solid contributor doe the defense this season. He has steadily improved over the years," Coach John O'Grady said. The defense has played pretty well so far this season but there is room for improvement. If we continue to improve, I think we can play with anybody," Renk said."Renk has played well this season. Neumann (Gregg) and Renk are very good compliments for each other at the defensive end position," O'Grady said. "With Neumann on the other side, it's a race to the quarterback. We push each other all week in practice and communicate during games to help each other improve on the field," Renk said.So far this season, he has 2.5 sacks and 38 total tackles. He also has three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. He is tied for the WIAC lead in fumble recoveries. In 2004, he had one sack and 14 total tackles. Renk, 6-3 250 pounds, has a motor that never stops until he gets to the back carrier or the running back. "Renk has worked hard in the weight room and it has translated to the football field," O'Grady said. "He has improved a lot over the past few years." Renk felt that his school had a lot to offer him with the strong football team as well as the nice facilities it offers. "I have made many life long friends here at River Falls. I have learned that dedication and hard work leads to success on and off the field and being part of the football team means a lot to me. RF has always had a great football tradition and it is an honor to be on the team," Renk said. Renk, who went to Caledonia High School, was named to the all-conference team in football and baseball in 2001 and 2002. He earned two basketball, three football and four baseball letters. He was also a member of National Honor Society and graduated with academic honors. He is the son of Julie and Robert and he is majoring in conservation. Outside of football, he likes to like to hang out with friends and family, watch TV, go hunting, play intramurals, and attend other UWRF sporting events. "We have to continue to force turnovers and eliminate giving up big plays. We have shown that we can shutdown opponents, we just need to play with more consistency," Renk said. |
