Falcon forward Derek Hansberry (Jr., Arvada, Col.) has been named to the 2007 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Men's At-Large team. Hansberry, 6-0, 195 pounds, led the Falcons with 21 goals and was second on the team in points with 35. He led the team with nine power-play goals and five game-winning goals. Hansberry has 39 career goals and 68 career points. He had 10 multiple point games and he has had 20 career multiple point games. He scored two goals and five points in the team's 10-2 win over St. Mary's on Dec. 12. Hansberry was twice named the team's Player of the Week. He was third on the team in power-play points (9-5-14). The Falcons were 12-1-1 when he scored a goal. Earlier this year Hansberry was named to the first All-NCHA and All-WIAC teams. He was also named to the second RBK Hockey Div. III West All-America team and the second USCHO.com D-III West All-America squad. In 2006 he was named to the D-III USCHO All-Rookie team after being voted the team's Most Valuable Player. Hansberry has a 3.91 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in business administration with a management emphasis. This year he was named to the NCHA All-Academic team and earned a Sigma Beta Delta honors program award. He has been named to UWRF Dean's List in all three semesters of attendance. Hansberry will now be considered for the national CoSIDA team. The country is divided into eight district and all district first team selections are under consideration for the national team. The Falcons finished 21-6-2 overall in 2007 and won the NCHA regular season championship. The Falcons qualified for the NCAA Div. III playoffs. The district team is comprised of all NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA student-athletes from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota and is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It includes the sports of golf, ice hockey, rifle, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. The Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the programs inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports. |
