Second Time Cranston Earns Honor
Cranston Named NCHA Coach of the Year

March 2, 2007

Falcon women's hockey Coach Joe Cranston has been named the 2007 NCHA Coach of the Year.

Cranston, who was named the NCHA Coach of the Year in 2003, led the Falcons to a second place finish in the NCHA in 2007. UWRF finished the regular season with a 14-7-4 overall record and they were 9-4-2 in the NCHA. The Falcons finished just one point out of first place in the final regular season standings.

Cranston is the only coach in the team's eight year history. He earned his 100th collegiate win this year on Nov. 10 in a 2-1 win at Bethel. His teams have finished no lower than third place in the highly competitive NCHA.

Cranston has led the Falcons to more overall and NCHA wins than any other current coach in the league. His teams have won more NCHA and more NCAA playoff games than any other active NCHA coach.

He has coached the Falcons to seven straight winning seasons. Six times players he has coached have been named All-Americans. Thirty-nine of his players have earned All-NCHA recognition and thirty-three players have earned NCHA All-Academic honors.

The 2003 Falcons competed in the NCAA Div. III Frozen Four and that team also won the NCHA regular season and league playoff titles. The 2001 Falcons also won the NCHA playoff championship.
