Knobloch Named WIAC Tennis Scholar-Athlete Oct. 23, 2005 Falcon tennis player Megan Knobloch earned the WIAC highest honor when she was named to the tennis Scholar-Athlete on Sunday at the WIAC Championships in Madison. The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is presented to the most outstanding senior from each conference sport during the year who exhibits the greatest combination of performance and achievement in academics, athletics and leadership. Knobloch had a great four-year career with the Falcons. She played No. 1 singles and doubles for the Falcons this year. She finished the season with a 12-4 overall record in singles and she placed third at the WIAC Championships held last weekend in Madison. She teamed with Leah Baron at No. 1 doubles this year and they finished fifth at the WIAC Meet and had a 5-8-1 season record. In 2004 she played the No. 1 singles spot and finished 8-7. She also teamed with Baron at No. 1 doubles and they finished the year with a 7-7 record. In 2003 she played No. 3 singles and finished the year with a 10-8 record. She played No. 2 doubles with several partners and finished with a 6-11 record. In her freshman season she played at No. 5 singles. Knobloch has been one of the team's top performers in the classroom also. She has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is majoring in elementary education with minors in reading and language arts. She has been named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Knobloch has been named to the UW-RF's Dean List in every semester. She was admitted to the UW-RF's School of Education last spring. She was named the WIAC Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 6-12, 2003 at No. 3 singles, and again for the week of Sept. 12-18, 2005 at No. 1 singles. She has been the team's captain in the 2004 and 2005 seasons. She was named the team's Player of the Week twice in each of the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons. Knobloch is the tennis representative to the UW-RF Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a member of Tomorrow's Educators, a campus organization for education majors and minors in both elementary and secondary education. She has worked at the University's C.H.I.L.D. Center. She joins Meghann Mulligan as Falcon winners of the Scholar-Athlete award. Mulligan earned the honor in 2001. |

Falcons Place Fourth at the WIAC Tournament Oct. 23, 2005 The Falcon's tennis team finished fourth at the WIAC Tournament with 36 points. The Falcons placed also placed fourth overall in the final WIAC standings with 12 points. La Crosse placed first with 21, followed by Whitewater 18, Eau Claire 15, RF 12, Stout 9, Stevens Point 5, and finally Oshkosh 4. On Sunday, the Falcons competed in singles at the WIAC Championships. No. 6 singles Mindy Rudiger placed second overall - the top finish for the Falcons. In the first round, Rudiger defeated Sarah Koch of UW-Oshkosh 6-0, 6-2. In the second round Rudiger defeated Jenny Sponholtz UW-La Crosse 6-0, 7-5. In the championship round, Tiffany Dawson of UW-Whitewater defeated Rudiger 6-1, 6-4. No. 1 singles Megan Knobloch placed third. Knobloch defeated Cathy Thornburg of UW-Stevens Point 6-0, 6-0 in the first round. In the second round, Nicole Stamm of UW-Whitewater defeated Knobloch 6-2, 6-3. Knobloch defeated Katie Kuzma of UW-Eau Claire to take third with a final score of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2). No. 2 singles Leah Baron also placed third overall. In the first round, Baron defeated Angie Brown of UW-Stevens Point 6-1, 6-3. In the second round Jessie Farrar of UW-Whitewater defeated Baron 7-6 (2), 6-0. Baron defeated Kristie Carlson of UW-Eau Claire to place third with a final score of 6-3, 7-5. No. 3 singles Becky Briese placed fifth overall. In the first round Jodie Czech of UW-Stout defeated Briese 6-3, 6-3. Briese had a bye the second round and defeated Andrea Nauer of UW-Oshkosh to take fifth with a final score of 6-3, 6-2. No. 4 singles Kaylei Sorensen placed third overall. Sorensen defeated Michelle Hohl of UW-Stout 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the first round. Erin Fekete of UW-La Crosse defeated Sorensen 6-0, 6-0 in the second round. To take third, Sorensen defeated Maggie Seitz of UW-Whitewater 6-4, 6-0. No. 5 singles Katie Anderson also placed third overall. Anderson defeated Melissa Fosdick of UW-Oshkosh 6-4, 7-5 in the first round. Kara Amundson of UW-Whitewater defeated Anderson 6-2, 6-1 in the second round, and Anderson defeated Alli Taplin of UW-Eau Claire 6-4, 6-0 to place third overall. On Saturday the Falcons competed in doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of Knobloch and Baron placed fifth overall in the doubles competition. Katie Kuzma and Laura Geissler of UW-Eau Claire defeated Knobloch-Baron in the first round, with a final score of 8-2. In the second round, Knobloch-Baron defeated Emily Bouch and Cathy Thornburg of UW-Stevens Point with a score of 8-3. Knobloch-Baron defeated Michelle Baur and Jenna Abbott of UW-Oshkosh for fifth place with a score of 8-5. The No. 3 doubles team of Rudiger-Molly Keifenheim placed fifth overall in doubles play. In the first round, Liz Deprey and Kristin Neuman from UW-Eau Claire defeated Rudiger-Keifenheim with a final score of 8-2. In round two, Rudiger-Keifenheim defeated Allison Popple- Sarah O'Melia of UW-Stevens Point, 8-3. To take fifth place, Rudiger-Keifenheim defeated Jodie Czech-Danielle Farchmin of UW-Stout 8-6. The No. 2 doubles team of Briese and Sorensen had a close match in the second round. Cory Salo-Holly Debruin of UW-Oshkosh defeated Briese-Sorensen with a final score of 8-6. Falcons Prepare for WIAC Meet Oct. 18, 2005 The Falcon tennis team will compete in the WIAC Championships on Saturday and Sunday at the Nielsen Tennis Complex in Madison. Action begins at about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. The Falcons, 8-5 overall and 3-3 in WIAC play, earned No. 2 seeds in two singles flights and a No. 3 seed in a third singles flight. Megan Knobloch will compete at No. 1 and is seeded No. 2. She enters the tourney with a 10-3 overall record. At No. 2 will be Leah Baron who is the flight's No. 4 seed. She has an 8-3 record at No. 2 this year. At No. 3 will be Becky Briese who is the fifth seed. She had a 7-4 record at No. 3 and finished 8-5 in all matches. Kaylei Sorensen will be at the No. 4 spot and she enters the tourney with an 8-4 overall record. She is the fourth seed. Katie Anderson will be at the No. 5 singles spot and will be the third seed. She has a 6-7 record entering the tourney. Mindy Rudiger will be playing at No. 6 singles and is the other No. 2 seed for the Falcons. She has a 9-1 record. At No. 1 doubles will be Knobloch and Baron who are seeded sixth. They are 3-7-1 this year. Briese and Sorensen will combine at No. 2 and they are also seeded sixth. They were 7-5 during the season. Rudiger will team with either Danielle Huper or Molly Keifenheim at No. 3 doubles. The Rudiger-Huper and the Rudiger-Keifenheim teams were both 2-3. They are also seeded sixth. |

Falcons Lose at UW-La Crosse, 8-1 Oct. 15, 2005 The Falcon tennis team lost a WIAC match at UW-La Crosse Saturday afternoon, 8-1. The only Falcon point came from Mindy Rudiger who won at No. 6 singles. She defeated Jenny Sponholtz, 4-6, 7-6 (11-9). The Falcons, 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the WIAC, will next compete in the WIAC Championships next Saturday and Sunday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. La Crosse 8, River Falls 1 |

Falcons Defeat UW-Stevens Point, 7-2 Oct. 14, 2005 The Falcon tennis team defeated UW-SP, 7-2 on Friday afternoon. In singles, No. 1 singles Megan Knobloch defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0. No. 2 singles Leah Baron won 6-6 (7-4), 6-4. No. 3 singles Becky Briese won 6-3, 6-1. Kaylei Sorensen who plays No. 4 singles had a big win defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0. No. 6 singles Mindy Rudiger won 3-6, 6-3, (10-7). In doubles, the No. 1 doubles team of Knobloch-Baron won 8-3. The No. 3 doubles team of Mindy Rudiger and Molly Keifenheim won 8-4. Falcons Lose at UWW, 7-2 Oct. 8, 2005 The Falcon tennis team lost a 7-2 WIAC match at UW-Whitewater on Saturday morning. Megan Knobloch came back to get a win at No. 1 sinlges beating UWW's Nicole Stamm, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. Mindy Rudiger won the other Falcon point at No. 6 singles beating Jenny Wojahn, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Falcons Beat Ripon, 9-0 Oct. 7, 2005 The Falcon tennis team defeated Ripon 9-0, on Friday afternoon. In singles, No. 1 singles Megan Knobloch defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-4. No. 2 singles Leah Baron won 6-0, 6-2. No. 3 singles Becky Briese won 6-0, 6-4. Danielle Huper who playes No. 4 singles won 6-4, 4-6, (10-6). No 5 singles Katie Anderson won 6-1, 6-4. Mindy Rudiger who plays No. 6 singles won 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, the No. 1 doubles team of Knobloch-Baron won 8-3. The No. 2 doubles team of Briese-Sorensen won 8-4, and the No. 3 doubles team of Rudiger-Huper won 8-3. Falcons Lose at UWEC, 7-2 Oct. 4, 2005 The Falcon tennis team lost for the first time in WIAC play, 7-2, at UW-Eau Claire Tuesday afternoon. Mindy Rudiger picked up the only Falcon point in singles. She won at No. 5 over UWEC's Alli Taplin, 7-5, 5-7 (10-4). The No. 3 doubles team of Rudiger and Danielle Huper won over their Eau Claire opponents, 9-7. | Falcons Open WIAC Season With 5-4 Win at Stout Sept. 24, 2005 The Falcon tennis team opened its 2005 WIAC season with a 5-4 win at UW-Stout on Saturday morning. In singles play the Falcons picked up four important points.. At No. 1 Megan Knobloch defeated Jenna Bettmann, 6-3, 6-4 and No. 2 Leah Baron won 6-1, 6-1 over Nicole Hazek. Kaylei Sorenesen, playing at No. 4, won a big point with a come-from-behind win. She beat Michelle Hohl, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Katie Anderson, playing at No. 5, also won a big point, 6-4, 6-3, over Danielle Farehmin. In doubles play, the No. 2 team of Becky Briese and Sorensen won big, 8-0. Falcons Defeat Bethel Sept. 20, 2005 The Falcon tennis team defeated Bethel on Monday afternoon, 6-2-1. There was one match considered to be a tie due to the poor lighting conditions at the end of the night. All of the matches played tonight were eight game pro-sets. In singles play, No. 1 singles Megan Knobloch defeated her opponent 8-3. No. 2 singles Leah Baron won 8-1. No. 3 singles Becky Briese defeated her opponent 8-6. Katie Sorenesen who plays No. 4 singles won 8-4. No. 6 singles, Mindy Rudiger won 8-2. In doubles play, the No. 1 doubles team of Megan Knobloch and Leah Baron tied with their opponents at 6-6.
