Lindsay O'Keefe
Falcon Senior Has Been a Steady Performer
|
Forward Lindsay O'Keefe first came to UW-River Falls for the same reasons as most student-athletes. "I knew the coach better, I liked the campus, it was close to home, and it had my major," said O'Keefe. But she left an impression on the Falcon women's hockey team that will remain long after she is gone. "Lindsay has been one of the most dependable players I have ever coached," said Falcon Coach Joe Cranston with pride. O'Keefe wasted no time showing what she could do for the Falcons. By the time she finished her freshman year she was the team's third-leading scorer with 11 goals and 21 points. She had two power plays and was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. And, she's only got better from there. Her sophomore year she improved scoring 14 goals and 24 points, finishing fifth in power-play goals with six, and having two short-handed goals. She also made the NCAA Div. III record book when she came in 13th in game winning goals with four. Her hard work doesn't end on the ice; she earned herself a place on the NCHA All-Academic team and to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Last year O'Keefe proved that she isn't slowing down by earning herself a place on the All-NCHA second team and the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. She's constantly improving and ended with a career high 12 assists and 22 total points. She had four power play goals and one game winner. "Good things come to those who work hard, and she has given a great effort over the years, so I think she will have a great senior year," said Falcon Coach Joe Cranston. O'Keefe's consistent performance as a player has made her a key player for the Falcons. O'Keefe is excited about her senior year. "We have a lot more depth so people are battling for every spot. The freshmen are stepping up to play a bigger role. It's nice to have that help." So this season O'Keefe has scored two goals and had two assists, but Cranston believes more are on the way. "Our team is not scoring a lot of points right now, but I think it's only a matter of time until we do, and I'm sure Lindsay will play a big part in that." The biggest thing O'Keefe will miss about playing with the Falcons is, "stepping out on the ice every day with a sense of pride playing for UW-RF." |
