The UW-River Falls women's basketball team looks to make a run to the playoffs and aiding the effort is transfer Meghan Hunstock.

Hunstock started playing basketball in ninth grade after being influenced by her basketball playing Mom.

Once playing, a competitive streak grew between her and her twin sister, Caitlin, who also suits up for the Falcons. The competition between the two was a classic sibling rivalry and there was always the competition as to who was the better player.

"In high school we got down each other's throats a lot," said Hunstock.  "We weren't as friendly to each other as we are now.  We yelled at one another in high school."

Hunstock attended South High School in Minneapolis and flourished.  She was a three-year started along side her sister and was named to the all-conference team three times. She was also great academically and was a member of the National Honor Society.

After high school, Hunstock went on to play Div. III basketball at North Park University near Chicago where she averaged 4.8 points and 2.9 rebounds a game last year.  She made appearances in all 24 games and even tasted the starting lineup three times.

It was tough going from high school where playing time was plenty and then moving to the college ranks where the competition is increased dramatically just to get minutes on the floor.

After her year in Illinois, Hunstock decided to transfer back closer to home and play for the Falcons.

"The North Park experience really helped my game here," said Hunstock. "I made a lot of friends but it was time to move closer to home."

So far in her first season with the Falcons, Hunstock has averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 boards a game and looks to improve on those numbers.

"Meghan is a great asset to our team," said Falcon Coach Cindy Hovet.  "She's really getting the hang of playing for us and if she sticks with it she will help us tremendously."

Hunstock's individual goal is just to get better all around and improve on defense. For the team the goal is simply to make it to the playoffs and hopefully win some games during a playoff run.

"Both the team and I have struggled at points in the season," said Hunstock.  "We just need to make adjustments and keep improving."

In her spare time Hunstock enjoys relaxing and hanging out with friends.  She also likes to listen to a lot of music.
Hunstock is undecided in her major and hopes to graduate in three years.
