John Hepokoski The Falcon women's basketball team is young, but looks for great play and leadership from sophomore transfer Caitlin Hunstock. Hunstock started her basketball career in fifth grade along with her twin sister, Meghan, and has never looked back. "My Mom played basketball when she was our age and she got us to pick up the sport," said Hunstock. Hunstock attended Minneapolis, Minn., South High where she was a starter for three seasons. She was the team's Most Valuable Player in 2004, named to the all-conference team three times, and was the team's captain for two seasons. "High school was so much fun and I'll always remember the good times with my teammates," said Hunstock. Hunstock was not only a stand out athlete; she was also a member of National Honor Society. After high school, Hunstock went on to play college ball at Div. II West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Hunstock made 20 appearances and totaled six points and six rebounds. Following her year in Pennsylvania, Hunstock decided to transfer to UW-River Falls. "I really liked River Falls and the campus and it was just so much closer to home." Hunstock's twin sister Meghan also plays for the Falcons and she also is a transfer player. "It was definitely different at a Div. II college," said Hunstock. "The teams are bigger and basketball is the big thing on campus." As a Falcon so far this season, Hunstock has played in 14 games where she's totaled 19 rebounds and 20 points. Hunstock is shaping up to be a player that will greatly benefit the Falcons in the future. "Caitlin has improved tremendously this season," said Falcon Coach Cindy Hovet. "We've been playing her out of position a lot and I see her fitting more into our style each game." "Coach has taught me a lot in my short time here, especially keeping low on defense," said Hunstock about the 2005-06 season. In her spare time Hunstock likes to read, hang out with friends, and listen to music. When asked of team and individual goals, Hunstock replied, "Hopefully get one of the top three positions in the conference standings and individually I want to step up my play and improve myself defensively." Hunstock is majoring in sociology and is going for a minor in criminal justice. She plans on graduating in 2008. Hunstock's ideal career would be a position with the FBI. "I will definitely miss the people in River Falls once I leave, along with everything relating to the team." |
