Zweifel Earns All-American Honors at NCAA Meet June 5 , 2006 Shannon Zweifel finished eighth in the 400 hurdles to earn All-American status at the NCAA Div. III track & field championships held May 25-27 at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. On Friday, May 26 Zweifel qualified for Saturday's final by setting a school record in the trials. She ran a 1:01.6 to break her 1:01.96 record she set earlier this year. In Saturday's final she placed eighth in 1:02. The winning time was 54.98. She becomes the 32nd Falcon to earn All-America honors in track & field at UWRF. Jill Crandall was the last - she earned the honors in the 2005 outdoor meet in the heptathlon. Brittany Smith also competed in the 400 hurdles and ran a 1:02.57 in the trials, but she did not qualify for the finals. Krista Hasselquist competed in the shot put and she had a best throw of 40-8 ¼, but she did not qualify for the finals. Vicki Cooper competed in the discus and she had a throw of 125-10 in the trials. She did not qualify for the finals. Clint Christy competed in the decathlon but could only finish the first five events that were held on Thursday. He ran an 11.81 in the 100-dash, he jumped 20-8 ½ in the long jump, he threw the shot 37-8 ½, he jumped 5-7 ¾ in the high jump and ran a 52.84 in the 400-dash. He was not able to compete in Saturday's events - the 110 hurdles, the discus, pole vault, javelin or 1,500. |
