Men and Women Finish Sixth at WIAC Championships

The Falcon men and women swam today at the WIAC Conference Championships at the aquatic center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, MN.

Both the men and then women finished in sixth with team scores of 201 and 185 respectively.  

For the women, Steven's Point finished in first with 985 points, followed by La Crosse (938.5), Eau Claire (545), Whitewater (321.5), Oshkosh (261), and River Falls (201).

Ashley Crunstedt finished 12th in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:29.21. In the 100 yard free Danielle Mandich finished 7th in 54.45, and Stephanie Thayer finished 15th in 57.28. Sara Cannady finished 11 in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:33.69, and Marissa Merchant finished 13th in 2:34.32.

On the men's side, Steven's Point finished in first with 1,017.5 points, followed by La Crosse (781.5), Eau Claire (526), Whitewater (368), Oshkosh (284), and River Falls (185).

Mike Brudzinski finished 12th in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:23.71. In the 200 yard backstroke Mike Keyser finished 14th in 2:12.46, Dan Kessenich finished 15 in 2:14.55, and Erick Dornseif finished 16 in 2:20.70. Matt Banz finished 10th in the 200 yard buttefly in 2:10.97, and Dave Johnson finished 14 in 2:42.91.

Men and Women Are Still In Sixth After Day Two of WIAC Championships

The Falcon men and women swam today at the WIAC Conference Championships at the aquatic center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, MN.

Both the men and then women are in sixth after day two with team scores of 130 and 144 respectively.  

For the women, La Crosse is in first with 693.5 points, followed by Steven's Point (655), Eau Claire (374), Whitewater (228.5), Oshkosh (182), and River Falls (144).

Sara Cannady finished 10th in the 100 yard back with a time of 1:11.24 Ashley Crunstedt came in 11th in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.88. In the 200 yard free, April Sandeberg finished 14th in 2:03.19, and Danielle Mandich finished 15 in 2:03.96.

On the Men's side, Steven's Point is in first with 675.5 points, followed by La Crosse (523.5), Eau Claire (325), Whitewater (247), Oshkosh (185), and River Falls (130).

Matt Banz finished 12th in the 100 yard butterfly in 55.64. In the 200 yard medley relay Mike Keyser, Mike Brudzinski, Matt Banz, and Tom Fritchen finished fourth with a time of 1:47.73. In the 400 yard IM Mike Brudzinski 4:47.91, and Eli Eschenbauch finished 16th in 5:07.61.

Next the Falcons start day three of the WIAC meet in Minnesota on February 11th. The meet is set to start at 9 a.m.

Men and Women Place Sixth on Day One of WIAC Championships

The Falcon men and women swam today at the WIAC Conference Championships at the aquatic center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, MN.

Both the men and then women came in sixth with team scores of 56 and 69 respectively.  

For the women, Steven's Point came in firs with 265 points, followed by La Crosse (206.5), Eau Claire (146), Whitewater (82.5), Oshkosh (76), and River Falls (69).

Stephanie Thayer, April Sandeberg, Whitney Thompson, Danilelle Mandich swam together in the 200 yard freestyle relay and finished fourth with a time of 1:42.18.   Sara Cannady took sixteenth in the 200 yard IM.   For the 50 yard free, Danielle Mandich finished ninth in 25.27, and Stephanie Thayer finished 15 in 26.32.

On the Men's side, Steven's Point also came in first with 273 points, followed by La Crosse (224), Eau Claire (199), Whitewater (100), Oshkosh (73), and River Falls (56).

Dan Kessenich, Eli Eschenbauch, Mike Keyser, Matt Banz finished fifth in the 200 yard free relay with a combined time of 1:34.00.   Matt Banz finished fifteenth in the 50 yard free in 23.05.

Next the Falcons start day two of the WIAC meet in Minnesota on February 10th. The meet is set to start at 9 a.m.

Men and Women Both Top St. Mary's

Jan. 28, 2006

Both Falcon swim teams participated at home against St. Mary's.

The women outscored St. Mary's 121-67 while the men won 94-55.

On the women's side UWRF took first in the 200 yard Medley relay. Marissa Merchant helped out the team with a first in the 200 medley relay, and a fifth in the 100 freestyle.

Tom Fritchen aided the men with a first in the 1000 freestyle.

Next the Falcons start the WIAC meet in Minnesota on February 9th. The meet is set to start at 9 a.m.

Men and Women Both Take Second

Both Falcon swim teams participated in the St. Catherine Invitational.

The Women took second behind Macalester College. 558-499.50 and the men placed second behind St. Thomas, 715-553.

On the women's side UWRF took first in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Sara Cannady was a main contributer after taking a first, second, and third.

On the men's side Matt Banz collected two seconds and a fifth.

Next the Falcons go to Eau Claire on the 27th of January to compete against UWEC and UW-Whitewater.

Men and Women Lose to St. Thomas

Jan. 20, 2006

Both Falcon swim teams went down in defeat on Friday night to St. Thomas at home.

River Falls men lost 142-62 while the women lost 116-106.

Daniell Mandich finished first in the 50 Yard Free, 25:54. Sara Cannady took first in the 200 Yard IM, 2:22.58. And the women took first and second in the 200 Yard Free Relay.

Matt Banz took second in both the 200 Yard Free and the 100 Yard Butterfly.

River Falls participates in the St. Catherine Invitational on Saturday, January 21st. The meet is slated to start at 9 a.m.

Women's Swim Team Beats Augsburg

The Falcon women's swimming & diving team beat Augsburg today.

River Falls fnished with 100 points, Augsburg with 62.

Marissa Merchant finished first in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:12.8. Stephanie Thayer finished first in the 50 yard free in 26.7 and third in the 100 yard back in 1:12.0. Sara Cannady took first in the 200 yard free in 26.7 and second in the 100 yard back in 1:11.14. Rachael Westlund took second in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:20.9.

Swim Teams Compete Against Hamline At Home

Dec. 16, 2005

The Falcon women's swimming & diving team beat Hamline, and the men lost today against Hamline at home.

For the women, River Falls got 111 points and Hamline finished with 106.

Ashley Swenty finished third in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races today. Debra Schemelzer finished second for the 1000 yard freestyle race in 12:35.62 and first in the 100 yard back. Sara Cannady finished first in the 200 yard IM in 2:26.06 and 100 yard breast in 1:13.13.

For the men, Hamline finished with 146 points and River Falls with 71.

Ryan Smaagard finished second in the 50 yard free, 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard breast. Matt Banz finished first in the 200 yard free 1:56.36. Tom Fritchen placed second in the 1000 yard free in 12.09.28 and the 500 yard free in 5:53.56.

Swim Teams Place Sixth at Lawrence Invite

The Falcon men's and women's swimming & diving teams each placed sixth at the two-day Lawrence Invitational that was completed on Saturday.

For the women, Green Bay came in first with 1,113 points. They were followed by Eau Claire with 678 points, Whitewater (580), Oshkosh (513), Lawrence (355), River Falls (291), Ripon (138), Beloit (78), and Stevens Point (72).

Danielle Mandich swam the 100 yard free and placed third in 55.39. Sara Cannady placed fourth in the 200 yard breast in 2:34.34. Ashley Crunstedt finished 11th in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:40.58. Mandich also placed second in the 50 yard freestyle in 25.16.

For the men, Green Bay came in first with 1,113 points. They were followed by Whitewater with 664 points, Eau Claire (561), Lawrence (461), Oshkosh (316), River Falls (254), Ripon (194), Beloit (82), and Stevens Point (48).

Ryan Smaagard finished fourth in the 50 yard free in 22.44. Matt Banz finished the 100 yard butterfly in eighth place in 56.78. Mike Brudzinski finished the 200 yard breaststroke in 11th place in 2:34.43.

The womens team finished fifth overall, and then mens team finished seventh.

For the men, Green Bay finished first with a team score of 359. They were followed by Whitewater (220), Eau Claire (186), Lawrence University (148), Ripon College (99), Oshkosh (93), River Falls (82)

Mikhael Keyser finished ninth in the 200 yard back in 2:15.25. In the 200 yard breast, Mike Brudzinski finished 11th in 2:34.43 and Anthony Yarusso finished 16 in 2:42.79. Ryan Smaagard took 10th in the 200 yard butterfuly, and Eli Eschenbauch took 15th in 2:43.59.

For the women, Green Bay finished first with 345 points followed by Eau Claire (217), Whitewater (208), Oshkosh (188), River Falls (112), Lawrence University (89), Ripon College (56).

Tia Felts took 15th in the 200 yard Back in 2:34.96. In the 200 Yard Breast Sara Cannady took fourth in 2:34.34 and Marissa Merchant 12th in 2:44.53. Ashley Crunstedt finished 11th in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:40.58.

The Falcons compete again Dec. 3 for day two of the Lawrence Invitational. Action beings at 9 a.m.

Swim Teams Compete at WIAC Relays

The men’s and women’s swim teams both finished in sixth place at the WIAC Relays in La Crosse on Saturday.

For the men, Stevens Point finished first with 158 points, followed by La Crosse (134), Eau Claire (92), Whitewater (92), Oshkosh (44), and River Falls (36).

Matt Banz, Dan Kessenich, David Johnson swam together for a
fourth place finish (3:10.76) in the 300 yard fly relay. Tom Fritchen,
Michael Brudzinski and Ryan Smaagard finished fifth (17:20.42) in the 1500 yard free relay. Brudzinski, Johnson, and Kessenich swam with Jacob Moe in the 400 yard free relay and placed fifth (3:46.98).

For the women, La Crosse finished first with 162 points, followed by Stevens Point (150), Eau Claire (90), Whitewater (70), Oshkosh (46), and River Falls (30).

Stephanie Thayer, Ashley Swenty, Whitney Thompson, and
Danielle Mandich swam together on the 400 yard free relay that placed fifth (3:54.54). Thayer, Thompson, and Mandich also swam with April Sandeberg on the 800 yard free relay that placed fifth (8:37.81). Sara Cannady, Marissa Merchant, and Thayer swam together for a fifth place finish (3:45.17) in the 300 yard breaststroke Relay.

Swim Teams Lose at Macalester

Nov. 12 , 2005

Both the men and women swim teams lost today at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.

Macalaster men won with a team score of 109-78. Macalaster women won with a team score of 115-100.

The Falcon men placed first in two events. Mikhael Keyser, Michael Brudzinski, Matt Banz, and Tom Fritchen took first in the 400-meter medley relay (4:50.40). Eli Eschenbauch finished first in the 200 meter butterfly (3:04.72).

The Falcon women finished first in five events. Danielle Mandach took first in the 50 meter free (28.63) and the 100 meter free (1:03.39). April Sandeberg ended first in the 400 meter free (5:09.98). Sara Cannady finished first in the 200 meter breast (2:55.10). Danielle Mandich, Ashley Swenty, Whitney Thompson, and Stephanie Thayer finished the 200 meter freestyle relay in first (1:57.27)

The Falcons will compete again on Saturday at the WIAC Relays in La Crosse.

Women Beat Lawence, Men Come in Second

After a long break, the Falcon swim team did well against Lawrence University last weekend in a dual meet at the River Falls High School pool.

The Falcon women won with a team score of 119-93. The Lawrence men won, 144-63.

The Falcon women placed first in seven events. Whitney Thompson won the 200 free (2:07.85) and the 100 back (1:06.47). Danielle Mandich took the top spot in the 50 free (25.89) and the 100 free (57.54). Sara Cannady won the 200 IM (2:24.88) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.4). The Falcon 200 medley relay team of Thompson, Cannady, April Sandeberg and Mandich won that race in 1:59.33.

For the men, Ryan Smaagard won the 100 fly (58.08) and Matt Banz won the 100 free (51.45).

Falcons Finish Fourth at Coed Relays

At the Midwest Co-ed Relay Meet, the Falcons men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams came in fourth out of four teams.

Eau Claire finished first with 80 points, followed by Oshkosh 58, Webster 42, and River Falls 38.
Today’s meet was unique in that the relay teams consisted of two males and two females who work together.

Falcons Fare Well At First Swim Meet

October 14, 2005

The Falcon men's swimming team beat Oshkosh with a team score of 57 and Webster with a team score of 55. The Falcon women lost to Oshkosh with a score of 43, and they beat Webster with a team score of 69.

In the men's team race against Oshkosh, River Falls finished first with 57 points followed by Oshkosh with 46. In the Oshkosh, Webster meet Oshkosh won with a team score of 58, while Webster had 45. In the River Falls, Webster meet, River Falls finished first with a team score of 55 and Webster earned 40.

In the women's team race against Oshkosh, Oshkosh won with a team score of 60 and River Falls had 43. Oshkosh beat Webster with team scores of 71 and 32 respectivley. River Falls beat Wesbster with team scores of 69 and 26 respectivley.
