Sarah Carlson enters her final season for the Falcons in 2005. She has demonstrated uncanny offensive skills and will be one of the Falcon all-time leaders in goals, assists and points when her career ends. Carlson is one of the team’s captains this year. She enters the 2005 season with 28 goals and 19 assists in 39 career games. She is fourth all-time in goals and third all-time in assists. She always draws the opponents’ top defensive players in an effort to slow her down. She played her freshman season at UW-La Crosse.
2004: Carlson led the Falcons in scoring for the second straight season with 12 goals, 13 assists and 37 points. She tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals. She played and started in all 18 games. The 13 assists is the most in a single season and the 37 points in seventh in a single season at UW-RF. Carlson finished 10th in the NCAA Div. III in assists per game averaging .72. In WIAC play she was third in points (2.06), eighth in goals (12), second in assists (13), and third in game-winning goals (4). Carlson was named to the All-WIAC team for the second straight year and was named the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player. Three times she was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 7, Oct. 4, Oct. 18). She was named the WIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 4 when she set a team record with 14 points in a 14-0 win over Superior. Carlson tied the school record with four goals and broke the team record with six assists. She contributed to 10 of the 12 first half goals. Carlson scored at least one point in five straight games and scored at least one point in 11 of the team’s contests. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for the second time.
2003: Carlson was named the WIAC’s Co-Most Valuable Player after helping lead the Falcons to the WIAC Championship. She led the team in scoring with 16 goals, six assists and 38 points and was named to the first All-WIAC squad. She also led the team with eight game-winning tallies. The 16 goals in fifth in a single season and the 38 points is sixth in a single season for the Falcons. She played and started in all 21 games. Twice she was named the WIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week – on Sept. 29 and Oct. 27. She was also named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week three other times – Sept. 8, Sept. 15 and Nov. 8. Carlson was also named the team’s Most Valuable Player. Twice she scored at least one point in five straight games and she was held scoreless in only four games. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
High School, Personal: Carlson earned soccer all-conference honors at Armstrong High School and was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year. In cross country skiing she earned honorable mention to the all-conference team and was named the team’s Most Improved. She earned an academic letter and was her class salutatorian. She likes to run, rollerblade, hang out with friends, play soccer and cross country ski. Carlson’s high school coach was Dan Menk. She lists her role models as her sister and parents. Her favorite soccer moment was winning the 2003 WIAC Championship. She was named to the UW-RF Dean’s List after the fall 2003, spring 2004, fall 2004 and spring 2005 semesters. She is the daughter of Sue and Paul. Carlson is majoring in communicative disorders.

Gina Hawkins

Gina Hawkins returns for her senior season with the Falcons in 2005. She is one of the team’s captains this year. Hawkins will play defender. In 54 career games she has scored three goals and six assists. She has proved to be one of the top defenders in the WIAC.
2004: Hawkins played and started in every game for the Falcons and had career-highs with two goals and five points. She was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13 when the Falcons won three games and limited opponents to just two goals. Hawkins added to the team’s success with a goal against Con.-St. Paul in a 7-1 win. She was ninth on the team with 16 shots and sixth with 10 shots on goal. Hawkins was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for the third straight year.
2003: She played and started in all 21 games when the Falcons won the WIAC Championship. She was fourth on the team with three assists. She finished the season with 13 shots and seven were on goal. She was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6 when she anchored a defense that allowed just two goals in three games. Hawkins was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
2002: Hawkins played in 14 games and started three contests. She scored one goal and had two assists. She scored a goal and had one assist in an 11-0 win against Superior. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
High School, Personal: She earned all-conference honorable mention at Rosemount High School. She enjoys spending time and making memories with family and friends. Her favorite soccer moment was winning the 2003 WIAC Championship. She has been named to the UW-RF Dean’s List after the fall semester in 2004. Her high school coach was Todd Farrington. She is the daughter of Diane and Jeff. She is majoring in elementary education.

Julie Shuldheisz
returns for her fourth and final season for the Falcons and will play the midfield. She has been a steady performer throughout her career and will be looked upon to give the Falcons leadership throughout the season. She enters her final season with two goals and four assists for eight points.
2004: Shuldheisz played in every game for the Falcons and started 16 times. She scored two goals and had two assists for a career-high six points. She scored her first career goal in a 2-1 win over Carleton. That goal came with just 1:09 to play and helped the Falcons to an eventual 2-1 overtime win. Shuldheisz was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week after her performance. She also scored in a 14-0 win over Superior. She picked up assists in back-to-back games against Bethany Lutheran and Augsburg. She had two shots on goal against St. Catherine, Carleton and Platteville. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for the third straight season.
2003: Shuldheisz played and started all 21 games for the Falcons and she helped lead the team to the 2003 WIAC Championship. She finished the year with six shots on goal and had two shots on goal against Con.-St. Paul and the University of Mary. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
2002: Shuldheisz played in every game for the Falcons and started 14 times. She picked up her first career point, an assist, on an 11-0 win over Superior. She also had an assist in the team’s next game, a 5-1 win over Concordia. She had a season-high six shots against Concordia. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
High School, Personal: Shuldheisz was a four year academic letter winner at Anoka High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Her hobbies include reading, spending time with friends and running. Her role models include her Mom and Dad and Jan and Joe Swenson. Her favorite soccer moment was winning the WIAC Championship in 2003. She was named to the UW-RF’s Dean’s List after the fall 2002, fall 2003, fall 2004 and spring 2005 semesters. She is the daughter of Diane and Dale. Shuldheisz is majoring in elementary education.

Amy Jensen returns for her third year with the Falcons and will play one of the midfield positions. She is a talented performer in both the offensive and defensive ends of he field.
2004: Jensen had a great second season with the Falcons and was named to the first All-WIAC team. She scored seven goals and had four assists for 18 points. She finished third on the team in scoring and had two game-winning goals. She played and started in 16 games. She scored at least one point in eight games. Twice she scored two goals – against Bethany Lutheran and Superior. She was second on the team with 42 shots and third with 20 shots on goal. Jensen was twice named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 27, Oct. 25). She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
2003: Jensen had a solid first year with the Falcons finishing tied for second in scoring and helping the Falcons win the WIAC Championship. She started and played in 20 games and had six goals and eight assists for 20 points. The eight assists was tops on the team and is seventh in a single season for the Falcons. She scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick against Con.-St. Paul in overtime and was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
High School, Personal: Jensen earned all-conference and all-conference honorable mention honors at Bloomington Kennedy High School. She was also named to the second All-Metro team. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Jensen’s high school coach was Art Seplack. She likes to rollerblade, hang out with friends, be outside and play sports. She lists her favorite soccer moment as winning the WIAC Championship. She was named to the UW-RF Dean’s List after the spring 2005 semester. She is the daughter of Susan Woolard and Wayne Jensen. Jensen is majoring in elementary education.

Jessie Olsen returns for her fourth year with the Falcons and will play defender. She received a medical red-shirt in 2004 and has two years of eligibility remaining. She is one of the team’s captains this year.
2004: Olsen missed the entire season after she broke her leg in the pre-season. Despite missing the year on the field, she was the co-winner of the Coaches Award. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
2003: Olsen had a second strong year for the Falcons and helped the team win the WIAC Championship. She finished the season with two goals; she scored single goals against Stout and Whitewater. She had a career-high three shots on goal against Stout. She was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 when the Falcons won two games and Olsen spearheaded the defense that allowed only one goal. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
2002: In her first season with the Falcons Olsen played and started all 20 games. She earned her first letter.
High School, Personal: At Elk River High School she won the team’s Coaches Award and earned honorable mention to the all-conference team. Olsen was on the A Honor Roll and earned academic letters. Her hobbies include spending time with family and friends and being outdoors. Her role models include her parents and grandparents and people who are willing to work hard even when others don’t believe in them. Her favorite soccer moments are winning the 2003 WIAC Championship and road trips. She was named to the UW-RF Dean’s List after the spring 2004 semester. She is the daughter of Julie and Steve. Olsen is majoring in health & human performance.

Ashley Peterson

Ashley Peterson is one of the top all-around soccer performers in the WIAC. She has the talent and skill to play any position on the field. She has started many games at either forward or defense, and moved to the other position at critical moments. Peterson will be among the leaders in goals, assists and points when her career is over. Entering the 2005 season she has 20 goals, and 14 assists for 54 points in 39 career games.
2004: Peterson had a second outstanding season finishing with 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points. The 34 points is eighth most in a single season for the Falcons. The 13 goals is ninth most in a single season. She played in and started all 18 games and finished second in scoring. Peterson tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals. She tied a Falcon single game record with four goals in a 14-0 win over Superior. She also had two assists in the game. For the second season she was named to the All-WIAC team and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. Peterson was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week twice (Oct. 11, Nov. 1) and the Defensive Player of the Week three times (Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Oct. 18). In WIAC play, Peterson finished fifth in points (1.89), seventh in goals (13), eighth in assists (8) and third in game-winning goals (4). She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for the second straight season.
2003: Peterson had a great rookie season with the Falcons and was named to the All-WIAC team. She finished with seven goals and six assists for 20 points when the team won the WIAC Championship. She played and started all 21 games and she tied for second in points. She had four game-winning goals, second on the team. Peterson was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week twice (Sept. 29, Oct. 13) and Defensive Player of the Week once (Sept. 8). She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
High School, Personal: Peterson was named to the first all-conference team for three straight seasons and earned honorable mention once. Four times she was named Forest Lake High School’s Most Valuable Player. She likes to hang out with friends and family, playing sports, watching movies and bowling. Her favorite soccer moment was winning the 2003 WIAC Championship. Her high school coach was Jeny Hurd. She was named to the UW-RF Dean’s List after the 2005 spring semester. She is the daughter of Gail and Bob. Peterson is majoring in health & human performance.

Kim Saufl

Kim Saufl is in her first season with the Falcons and will play forward. She can also help the team by playing midfield. She played the last two seasons at Iowa Central Community College and attended UW-Green Bay last spring semester. She starts her junior season with the Falcons this fall.
High School, Personal: Saufl had a great two-year career at Iowa Central Community College. She was named to the All-American team in 2003 and 2004 and was twice named the team’s Player of the Year. She was twice named to the first All-Region squad. Saufl was ninth in scoring in the NJCAA in 2003 when she scored 32 goals and had 12 assists for 76 points in 19 games. She was 25th in scoring in 2004 when she scored 20 goals and had 13 assists for 53 points in 18 contests. She was also a Community College Academic All-American. Saufl was twice named to the ICCC Dean’s List and to the President’s List. She helped lead the team to a Regional championship in 2003. Saufl was named to the all-conference team while at Champlin Park High School. She helped the team win the 2000 and 2001 conference championships. Her favorite pastimes include spending times with family and friends. Her role models are her family members. Her high school coach was Chris Osbourne. She is the daughter of Su Olson and Chuck Saufl. Saufl is majoring in business administration, marketing and accounting.

Andrea Dudley

Andrea Dudley returns for her second season with the Falcons and will be a main contributor to the team with her play in goal.
2004: Dudley played in seven games and started six times. She finished the year with a 5-1-0 record with a 1.09 goals against average and a .24 saves percentage. She recorded two shutouts. She made three saves in a 1-0 win over Augsburg and two saves in a 2-0 win over St. Catherine. She had a season-high nine saves against UM-Morris.
High School, Personal: Dudley earned a Raider award at Park High School. Her hobbies include reading, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and hanging out with friends. Her role models include her sister, Sonja, a former Falcon soccer player, and Briana Scurry. Her favorite soccer moment was getting her first collegiate shutout. Her high school coach was Greg Juba. She is the daughter of Deb and Caroll. Dudley is majoring in history secondary education.

Heather Morgan returns for her second season with the Falcons. She will play midfield.
2004: Morgan earned her first letter for the Falcons after playing in 13 games. She scored goals in a 7-1 win over Con.-St. Paul and a 4-1 WIAC win over Eau Claire. She had a season high three shots in a game against Superior. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
High School, Personal: Morgan was New Holstein High School’s Most Valuable Player and captain in 2003. That year she was named to the first all-conference team. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. Her favorite pastimes include cooking, biking and rollerblading. Morgan’s role models are her family. Her best soccer moment was when New Holstein defeated an undefeated opponent. Her high school coach was Bill Schleh. She is the daughter of Deborah. Morgan is majoring in food science.

Tracy Olson returns for her second season with the Falcons and she will play defender again in 2005.
2004: Olson had a solid first year for the Falcons playing defender. She played in every game for the Falcons and started the last 10 contests. She scored three goals and one assists for seven points. Olson scored two goals in her first collegiate game, an 8-0 win over Bethany Lutheran. She had a season-high six shots, three on goal, in that game. She got her one assist in a 14-0 win over Superior. She was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 25.
High School, Personal: Olson was named to the all-conference team three times at Rosemount High School. She was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 and was the team’s captain in 2002 and 2003. Olson’s high school coach was O.J. Okello. Her hobbies include singing, hanging out with friends and family and bowling. Her role model is her Dad. Her favorite soccer moment was scoring a goal in her first college game in 2004. She is the daughter of Judy and Jeff. Olson is majoring in social work.

High School, Personal: She was voted Champlin Park’s Most Dedicated player in 2003. She is the daughter of Linda and Jeff. Her role model is her sister, Kristin. Her hobbies include being with friends and family, playing soccer, rollerblading, going to the cabin and enjoying the outdoors. Her high school coach was Chris Osbourne. Amy Piersak is in her second year with the Falcons and will play defender. She has outstanding range and can cover a lot of the field.
2004: Piersak scored two goals and four points for the Falcons in her first season. She scored her first collegiate goal in a 14-0 win over Superior. She played and started every game. Piersak was twice named the team’s Defensive Player of the Week. She was named for the first time on Sept. 7 when the Falcons won twice and she helped limit the opponents to just three shots on goal. She was named a second time on Nov. 1 when she scored the team's first goal in a 3-2 overtime loss at Nebraska Wesleyan. Piersak was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
High School, Personal: Piersak was named to the all-conference team in 2003 and earned all-conference honorable mention in 2002 at Mounds View High School. She also earned All-State Honorable Mention honors in 2003. She played in the High School Senior Classic. She was a member of the National Honor Society and earned four academic letters. Her hobbies include reading, hunting, fishing and camping. Her role models are her parents and high school soccer and track & field coaches. Her favorite soccer moment was in her senior season when her team defeated Woodbury giving that team its only loss of the season. Her high school coaches were Sharon and John Swallen. Her sister, Kelly, is a member of the team. She was named to the UW-RF Dean’s List after the spring 2005 semester. She is the daughter of Debra and Robert. Piersak is majoring in biology secondary education.

Maranda Simonet joins the Falcons for her first season of competition in 2005. She will play midfield but has the talent to also play forward. She attended the Minneapolis Community and Technical College last year.
High School, Personal: At River Falls High School she was a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Community and Urban Development award. She also contributed to the Jeremiah Campus Community Mosaic Project. Her hobbies include biking, long boarding, reading and watching independent films. Her role models include Freddy Mercury, Veronica Mars, Lisa Simpson and Virginia Woolf. Her favorite soccer memories include playing with her original River Falls traveling team. Her Twin Cities Fire soccer team coach was Aaron Tilsen. At MCTC she was on he Honor Roll, the Dean’s List and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Her parents are Ramona and Joe Simonet and Randa Hinson. Simonet is majoring in Teaching English as a Second Language and Spanish.

Julie Sperstad returns for her second season with the Falcons. She will play midfield.
2004: Sperstad had a great first year with the Falcons finishing tied for fourth in scoring with two goals and three assists for seven points. She was named the team’s Rookie of the Year. She played in every game and was a starter in all but one. She scored her first collegiate goal in her first game, a win over Bethany Lutheran. Sperstad had a season-high six shots in the game. She picked up a goal and an assist in a win over Con.-St. Paul. She was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11 when the Falcons beat Eau Claire, 4-1.
High School, Personal: Sperstad was named to the all-conference team as a senior at Eau Claire Memorial High School. She also twice earned all-conference honorable mention honors. She helped lead the Old Abes to the WIAA State Tournament. She was a member of the Partners Club and a Link Leader. Her favorite past time is hanging out with her friends. He role model is her Mom. She lists her favorite soccer moment as scoring a goal while playing defender. Her high school coach was George Oien. She is the daughter of Rita and Kris. Sperstad is majoring in health & human performance.

Hannah Tvedt

Hannah Tvedt had a great first year for the Falcons in goal last year. She is a talented keeper who has shown the ability to make the big save whenever it’s needed. She uses her speed and quickness to cover the net.
2004: Tvedt played in 14 games and started 10 times. In her first collegiate start she recorded a shutout in an 8-0 win over Bethany Lutheran. She finished the year with a 7-3-1 record with a 1.31 goals against average and a .770 saves percentage. She had two other shutouts – a 4-0 win over Bethel and a 1-0 win over Platteville. Her top save performance was 10 in a 1-0 loss to Stevens Point in the WIAC playoffs. She played in three overtime games and had a 1-1-1 record. Tvedt was named the team’s Most Improved Player. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
High School, Personal: Tvedt earned four soccer letters at Byron High School. She was named to the all-conference team and was the team captain in 2001 and 2002. An outstanding all-around athlete, she earned three basketball and four softball letters. She was the captain of both teams and earned all-conference softball honors twice. Tvedt earned two academic letters and was a member of the Student Council for four years. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Her high school coach was Marc Stangler. Her hobbies include spending time with family and friends, being outdoors and being active. Her role models include her sister, Emily, her parents, her Aunt Marilyn and Teresa Weatherspoon. Her favorite soccer moments are long road trips and over night trips. She was named to the UW-RF Dean’s List after the 2005 spring semester. She is the daughter of Pam and Chuck. She was named to the conference’s All-Academic track & field team and was a member of the school’s Honor Roll. She is the daughter of Colleen and Harlan. Her high school coach was David Graham. Her hobbies include being with friends and family, boating, water skiing, swimming, snowmobiling and rollerblading. Her role models are her parents, Her favorite soccer moment was when Prior Lake went to state for the first time in school history. Hermes is undecided on a major field of study.

Sarah Peterson is in her first year with the Falcon program and will play defender. She is a solid defensive player who can play either the sweeper or stopper spots.
High School, Personal: Peterson earned four soccer letters at Holy Family Catholic High School. She was the team’s captain in 2004 and earned the team’s Rough & Tough Award in 2003. She earned honorable mention to the all-conference team in 2003 and was named her team’s Most Improved Player in 2002. A good all-around athlete, she also earned four letters in track & field and two in basketball. Peterson was a member of the Student Council for three years and received the Mary Award, which recognizes school achievement, in 2004. Her favorite pastimes include playing cards, service work, being active and watching movies. Her role models include her brother, James, her Grandpa and Mary Jo Copeland. Her high school coach was Jorge Oconitrillo. Her favorite soccer moment was scoring a goal off a corner kick in her team’s first game of her senior season. Peterson’s parents are Ann and Jim. She is majoring in elementary education.

She is the daughter of Debra and Robert and they are her role models. Her favorite soccer moments were when Mounds View defeated Totino-Grace (5-0), for the first time in 11 seasons, and when her team beat White Bear Lake in the section finals. Her sister, Amy, is also a member of the Falcon soccer team. Her hobbies include fishing, camping, playing sports and being outdoors. Her high school coach was Sharon Swallen. Piersak is majoring in biology.

Straub was a member of the National Honor Society and also a member of the Spanish National Honor Society. She was on the A Honor Roll for four years. Her hobbies include hanging out with friends, singing, playing soccer and working out. Her role model is her family. Her favorite soccer memory is starting her first game with the varsity at home with the lights shining. Her high school coach was O. J. Okello. She is the daughter of Linda and Vince. Straub is majoring in pre-medicine.

High School, Personal: Terry helped Totino-Grace High School to Minnesota State Championships in 2002. She earned three soccer and two track & field letters. She helped the team win sectional titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She earned academic all-conference honors in 2004. Terry was on either the A or B Honor Roll from 2002-05. An excellent musician, she earned a superior rating in 2005 and an excellent rating in 2003 in the state solo/ensemble competition. She played the flute and was also a member of the Show Choir. She enjoys playing the flute, water and down hill skiing and being with friends. She lists her role models as Michelle Akers, Janet Karvonen, her parents, her cousin Kelly and Mia Hamm. Her high school coach was Jeff Dennehy. She lists her favorite soccer moment as winning the Minnesota State Championship. Her parents are Jill and Bob.
