2005 Preview
The Falcon soccer team has a talented group of returning players and with the addtion of some strong first year players will make a run for the 2005 WIAC title.

Thirteen returning letter winners will meet Coach Sean McKuras for the first practice on Aug. 21. The Falcons have a solid balance of players back in goal, on defense, in the midfield and up front. "We are very excited about the coming season," said McKuras. We are returning some veteran players. In addition, we are bringing in some talented freshmen and a transfer who will strengthen the team. Our strength is the team aspect - meaning no one gets left behind."

All three Falcons who were named to the first All-WIAC team last year return. Forward Sarah Carlson (12-13-37), mid Amy Jensen (7-4-18) and defender Ashley Peterson (13-8-34) are all back. Carlson and Peterson were both named to the first All-WIAC team in 2003. Carlson was named the WIAC Co-Most Valuable Player in 2003.

Carlson finished 10th in the NCAA Div. III in assists per game averaging .72. In WIAC play she was third in points (2.06), eighth in goals (12), second in assists (13), and third in game-winning goals (4). Peterson finished fifth in points (1.89), seventh in goals (13), eighth in assists (8) and third in game-winning goals (4). Jensen was 13th in points (1.12) and 18th in goals (7). Peterson can play any position on the field. Also back is Gina Hawkins (2-1-5) who can play either mid or defender. Amy Piersak (2-0-4) had a strong first year at defender. Seniors Jessie Olsen, a defender, and Julie Shuldheisz (2-2-6), a mid, give the Falcons plenty of depth. Hannah Tvedt returns in goal and she was fourth in goals against average (1.31) and fifth in saves percentage (.770) in the WIAC. The Falcons finished second in goals per game (3.17), third in assists per game (2.22) and third in goals allowed per game (1.28).

The Falcons have a friendly early season schedule with the first eight matches at home. The Falcons host UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh in WIAC matches during that stretch. The Falcons also host perennial power UW-Stevens Point (Oct. 1). UW-RF also plays host to UW-Stout, which finished second in the WIAC last year, on Oct. 25.
