Duncanson Named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-American Second Team

Falcon track & field athlete Garrett Duncanson (Sr., Mantorville, Minn.) has been named to the 2006 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second College Division Men's track & field/cross country team.

Earlier this year Duncanson was named to the first District V team. There are eight CoSIDA districts and all student-athletes named to first district teams were eligible for CoSIDAAll-American academic honors. There were three Academic All-American teams named.

Duncanson has had an outstanding career both on the track and in the classroom at UWRF. He was a member of the 4x100 relay team that holds the school record (43.08 set in 2005). He competed in relays, and the 200- and 400-meter dash events during the outdoor season. He had a season best time of 23.73 in the 200 and a season best time of 51.92 in the 400. During the indoor season he competed in the 55-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter events. Duncanson had a season best time of 6.73 in the 55; a 23.79 in the 200 and a 52.6 in the 400. He majored in biology and earned a minor in chemistry. He carried a 3.994 cumulative grade point average and graduated this past May.

He was named to WIAC Scholastic Honor Rolls in the 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years. He earned Dean's List honors in every semester and earned Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Merit awards. He is a UWRF Honors Program Graduate and earned the Dr. Henry Traumal Scholarship in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 school years and the River Falls Medical Clinic Scholarship in the 2004-05 school year. He also earned the Best Big Brother - Big Sister Award in 2005.

Duncanson has been a Big Brother - Big Sister Volunteer (2003-06) and did undergraduate research in Sia-1 gene of celegan (2004-05). He was an officer for the Students for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly & Creative Activities Club. He was a member of the UWRF Honors Program (2002-06) and the Biology Club (2002-03). He competed in intramural athletics (2002-06). He was an Xcel Energy Center Centerplate Volunteer (2005-06).

Duncanson is the seventh Falcon student-athlete to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American. Brian Izdepski (1995, football first team); Mike Olson (1991, football first team); Bob Kotecki (1986, men's basketball honorable mention); Brian Keller (1986, wrestling (at large) honorable mention); Rob Novak (2004, hockey (at large) second team) and Melissa Tvrdik (2004, volleyball third team) have also earned the honor.

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the programs inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
