Nate Hansen

Nate Hansen returns for his senior season with the Falcons in 2005-06 and gives the team game experience. He is a versatile player who can play forward or defense.
2004-05: Hansen played in every game for the Falcons on defense. He finished with two goals and three points.
2003-04: Hansen played in 29 games and finished with two goals and six assists for career high eight points. He scored a game-winning goal against Eau Claire on Feb. 20.
2002-03: Hansen broke into the Falcon lineup with a strong season. He had seven points on five goals and two assists and earned the team's Most Improved Award. Hansen was also named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
Personal: Hansen had eight goals and 16 assists for Des Moines of the USHL. At Austin High School, he once scored six goals in a game and was an all-conference and all-state honorable mention selection. He is the son of Lee and Joni and has three brothers. Brothers Josh and Eric are members of the 2005-06 Falcon team. Hansen is majoring in business.

Dan Meneghin

Dan Meneghin

Dan Meneghin returns for his senior season with the Falcons in 2005-06. He is a respected veteran who gives the Falcons great talents in the nets.
2004-05: Meneghin had a third straight strong year for the Falcons between the pipes. He played in 14 games and finished with a 9-3-0 record with a 1.95 goals against average and a .939 saves percentage. He had two shutouts - a 7-0 win over MSOE (Oct. 26) and a 2-0 win over St. Scholastica (Jan. 28). He was named the team's Player of the Week on Nov. 15 after helping the team to a 2-1 win over St. Mary's when he made 40 saves, including 15 in the third period. In the NCAA, he finished tied for second in saves percentage, sixth in goals against average and 13 th in winning percentage (.750). His saves percentage is second all time in a season at UW-RF. He was named to the NCHA All-Academic team for the second straight year. He was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
2003-04: Meneghin had a second straight strong season for the Falcons. He played in 12 games and finished with an 8-2-1 record, a 2.03 goals against average and a .915 saves percentage. He recorded two shutouts - 3-0 at Stout on Dec. 12 and 5-0 at MSOE on Oct. 31. He finished 10 th in goals against average, 11 th in winning percentage (.773) and 14 th in saves percentage in the entire NCAA. Meneghin was named the team's Player of the Week on Dec. 15 when he made 37 saves in the shutout win at Stout. He has done an outstanding job in the classroom also and was named to the NCHA All-Academic team and to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. He was named to the Dean's List.
2002-03: Meneghin appeared in 14 games and went 13-1, including two shutouts. He posted a 1.72 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. In all of Div. III hockey he finished second in winning percentage (.929), third in goals against average and fourth in save percentage. His goals against average is second and his saves percentage is fourth all time in a season. He also performed well in the classroom and was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. He earned Dean's List honors.
Personal: Meneghin has 30 career wins and six career shutouts with the Falcons. He will most likely have his name in the Falcon Honor Roll in games, wins, goals against average, saves percentage, minutes played, winning percentage, shutouts and saves by the end of his career. He played with the Victoria Salsa of the British Columbia Hockey League. After three years in the league, he started in the league's all-star game. While playing with the Barnaby Bulldogs he was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Meneghin had a .897 save percentage and a 3.6 goals against average in his final year with the Salsa. He went to high school at Holy Cross. He is the son of Emilio and Eva and has three brothers. Meneghin is majoring in accounting.

Andy Scanlon

Mike Salmela

Mike Salmela is a familiar named to Falcon hockey fans and returns to the team for the 2005-06 season and will play defense. He competed for the team in 2002 and 2003. He then concentrated on his studies because he would like to eventually go to medical school.
2003: Salmela finished ninth in scoring with four goals and 21 points. He had two power-play and two game winning goals. He earned honorable mention to both the All-NCHA and All-WIAC teams. He was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
2002: In his first season with the Falcons he had seven assists and eight points in 25 games. He was named to the Dean's List after both semesters and was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
Personal: Salmela played junior hockey at Waterloo of the NAHL (1998-2000) and at Rochester of the USHL (2000-01). In his first year at Waterloo he led all defensemen in goals, tied for the team lead in game winning goals and won the Plus-Minus award. Salmela played at Duluth East High School and helped lead the 1998 team to the Minnesota State Championship. He lists his biggest high school hockey thrill as winning the State Championship. He has been named to the Dean's List in the fall of 2003, spring of 2004, fall of 2004 and spring of 2005. He has earned UW-RF's Sophomore and Junior Merit awards. He is the son of Karen and Bruce and has one brother and one sister. Salmela is majoring in biology.

Andy Scanlon

Andy Scanlon returns to the Falcons for his senior and final season in 2005-06. His goaltending skills will play a big role for the Falcons during the season.
2004-05: Scanlon came up with another solid year for the Falcons in goal. In 18 games he finished 8-6-2 with a 2.62 goals against average and a .909 saves percentage. He had two shutouts - a 2-0 regular season win over Superior (Jan. 29) and a 4-0 win over Stout in the first game of the NCHA playoffs (Feb. 18). He was 1-2 in post-season play.
2003-04: Scanlon stepped in between the pipes and had a great first year with the Falcons. He was named the team's Most Valuable Player and earned All-NCHA and All-WIAC honorable mention honors after playing in 21 games. He finished with a 13-4-3 record, a 1.74 goals against average and a .935 saves percentage. Scanlon finished second in the NCAA in saves percentage, fifth in goals against average and 15 th in winning percentage (.725). The .935 saves percentage and 1.74 goals against average are both third all time at UW-RF in a single season. He recorded three shutouts - over Eau Claire (3-0 in the NCHA playoffs on Feb. 21), at Lake Forest (3-0 on Jan. 16) and at Stout (3-0 on Dec. 12). Two of the three shutouts came on the road. Scanlon was named the team's Player of the Week after he helped the Falcons to two wins in the NCHA first round playoffs. The Falcons beat EC, 5-1 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday. In Friday's win he made 21 saves and he stopped all 19 shots he faced on Saturday. Scanlon finished 3-1 in NCHA playoff games and 1-1 in NCAA playoff contests.
Personal: Scanlon is a big goaltender who takes up a lot of the net and controls rebounds. He has great mobility and the ability to move the puck up the ice. In 2003 at Helena in the AWHL he finished with a 14-5 record with a 2.93 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. His sister, Jenna, is a sophomore forward with the Falcon women's team. He is the son of Charlie and Barb and has two brothers and one sister. Scanlon is majoring in business.

Andy Jurek returns to the Falcons for his third season in 2005-06. He will again play an important role for the team as a defenseman.
2004-05: Jurek plays in all types of situations and his physical play is a key to the team's success. He has very good puck handling skills. He played in 25 of the team's games and finished the year with three assists.
2003-04: Jurek had a great rookie year for the Falcons on the blue line. He played in every game in 2004 and finished the season with six assists. He picked up his first collegiate point in his first game, a 5-0 win over MSOE on Oct. 31. He notched two assists in a 7-2 win over Lake Forest on Feb. 7.
Personal: Jurek netted 14 goals and dished out 28 assists in 2003 and was the second-highest scorer among defensemen in the AWHL. He was named to the All-AWHL first team and was an AWHL Top Prospect. He is the son of Kevin and Pat and has one brother. Jurek is majoring in marketing communications.

Tyler Kostiuk

Tyler Kostiuk is in his third year with the Falcons in 2005-06 and gives the team solid play as a forward.
2004-05: Kostiuk is one of the top playmakers in small college hockey and has demonstrated those skills. He shows his offensive flair in every game and provides the Falcons with offensive spark when it's needed. He has a talent for moving the puck up ice and has the ability to find the open player and get him the puck.   He sees the ice very well. He finished with four assists in 15 games. He registered two assists in a 6-2 win over Con.-Moorhead on Nov. 6.
2003-04: Kostiuk scored six goals and had eight assists for 14 points. He scored three power-play goals and had one game winner. His 14 points was the most for a first year Falcon. The game winner came in a 3-0 win over Stout on Dec. 13. He was named the team's Player of the Week on Feb. 2 when he came up with two timely goals to lift the Falcons to two ties on the road in NCHA play. His goal early in the third period against Superior tied the game 2-2. His penalty shot goal with less than five minutes remaining gave the Falcons a 1-1 tie at St. Scholastica.
Personal: Kostiuk led the AWHL in assists with 61 in 2003. He also netted 19 goals. He is the son of Ken and Toni and has two brothers and one sister. Kostiuk is majoring in marketing communications.

Jared Sailer

Jared Sailer is back for his third year in 2005-06 for the Falcons. He plays forward and has shown steady improvement throughout his UW-RF career.
2004-05: Sailer played in 22 games and finished with six goals and 11 points. He had three power-play goals. He was named the team's Most Improved Player. Twice he scored two goals in a game - in a 7-4 loss at Stevens Point on Dec. 4 and in a 3-2 loss to St. Norbert on Jan. 15. He was named the team's Player of the Week on Jan. 17. Sailer is a big, powerful forward who has had two solid seasons. Even though he's one of the biggest players on the team, he has a great touch with the puck. Sailer uses his size and skills to be a regular in the Falcon lineup.
2003-04: He scored four goals and had two assists for six points in his first season with the Falcons. He scored his first collegiate goal in his first game against MSOE on Oct. 21 and scored one game winner - it came in a 3-2 win over St. Scholastica on Jan. 23.
Personal: He led the AWHL with 46 goals in 2003. He also registered 36 assists. He was a first-team All-Star and earned team Co-MVP honors. Sailer is the son of Bill and Val. He is majoring in accounting.

Joe Tiberio

Joe Tiberio is another forward who returns for his third year with the Falcons in 2005-06.
2004-05: Tiberio made the most of his playing time in 25 games. He finished with four goals and five points. He scored the team's game winning goal in a 4-0 win over Stout in the first round of the NCHA playoffs.
2003-04: Tiberio gives the Falcons some needed physical play.   He finished with two goals - both game winners - and two assists. He scored a goal in his first collegiate game and it was a game winner in a 5-0 win at MSOE. He came back about two weeks later to score his second game winner in a 5-1 win over St. Thomas.
Personal: In 2003 Tiberio netted 19 goals and dished out 11 helpers to go along with his 142 penalty minutes while playing at Bismarck in the AWHL. The team won the AWHL's Borne Cup and advanced to the junior national tournament for the first time in the team's history. Tiberio lists his biggest junior hockey thrill as beating Billings in the playoffs to win the Borne Cup. He is the son of Joe and Barb and has one brother. Tiberio is majoring in business administration.

Aaron Venasky

Aaron Venasky is a solid two-way player who returns for his third season with the Falcons in 2005-06. He plays forward.
2004-05: Venasky had another solid year for the Falcons finishing with two goals and five points in 27 games. The talented two-way player had one power-play goal - that came against MSOE on Oct.26. He finished with a goal and one assist for two points in that contest.
2003-04: Venasky came up with several big points for the Falcons in his first season. In 20 games he scored five goals and added five assists for 10 points. His 10 points were second among first year Falcons. Among his five goals were three game-winning tallies. He had game winners in a 4-2 win over St. Mary's on Nov. 15, a 3-0 win over Stout on Dec. 12 and a big 6-4 win over St. Norbert on Feb. 6.
Personal: In 2003 with the Billings Bulls of the AWHL, Venasky showed his balance with 29 goals and 25 assists. He captained the Bulls and was named an AWHL-USA Hockey Top Prospect. Venasky led his team to the USA Hockey Junior A national championship. He is the son of Frank and Judy and has one brother. Venasky is majoring in finance.

Joe Adams

Joe Adams got plenty of playing time late in the season last year and will be looked upon to carry that success into his second year with the Falcons in 2005-06./ He plays forward.
2004-05: Adams finally broke into the Falcon lineup in the team's final five games and showed his talents on both ends of the ice. His patience paid off as he helped the Falcons in their playoff run. In the five games he picked up one assist, in a 4-0 win over Stout in the first round of the NCHA playoffs. He was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Adams was named to the Dean's List after the spring semester.
Personal: In 2004 he led Bismarck   to the Borne Cup championship. In January (2004), Adams was named the NAHL's West Division Offensive Player of the Month. He was also voted the team's Most Valuable Player, the playoff Most Valuable Player and he received   the Matt Plauzak Award, given to the player who best represents the team on and off the ice. Those awards were all voted on by his teammates. He lists his biggest junior hockey thrill as winning back-to-back Borne Cup championships in 2003 and 2004. Adams also played baseball at Roseau High School and helped that team to a runner-up finish in the Minnesota State Tournament. He is the son of Mike and Kris and has one sister. Adams is majoring in elementary education.

Patrick Borgestad

Pat Borgestad will benefit from being with the Falcons from the start of the 2005-06 season, his second year with the team. He plays forward.
2004-05: Borgestad joined the Falcons at the mid point of the season and played in three games. He saw the ice in home games against St. Scholastica and Superior and at St. Norbert.
Personal: Borgestad played junior hockey at Des Moines of the USHL. He earned a spot on the 2002 USHL All-Start team. Borgestad also competed with the North American Selects and with Team Minnesota in the Select 17 Tournament. The Select 17 team won the tournament championship. He lists his biggest junior hockey thrill as playing int eh USHL playoffs. At Como Park High School he was twice named to the all-conference team and earned honorable mention to the All-State team. He is the son of Becky   and Bob and has two brothers and one sister. He has a son, Brady, who's four months old. Borgestad is majoring in business.

AJ Bucchino is in his first year with the Falcons and plays the goaltending position. He played the 2002-03 and 2004-05 seasons at Des Moines of the USHL. The left handed catching keeper   played the 2003-04 season at the University of New Hampshire. In the 2002-03 season he had a 3.52 goals against average and a .909 saves percentage in 35 games. Bucchino was named the USHL's Goalie of the Month in March and was twice named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. He played 40 games in the 2004-05 season with the junior team and had a 3.89 goals against average and an .888 saves percentage.   He helped his prep school win two high school championships and was twice named the Most Valuable Player at Tilton. He was twice named to the All-Star team. He lists his biggest high school hockey thrill as winning two prep school championships and his biggest junior hockey thrill as competing in the 2003 USHL playoffs against Waterloo. He is the son of Iris and Joe and has two brothers and one sister. Bucchino is majoring in psychology.

TJ Dahl was a key part of the Falcon offense last year and is back for his second season with the Falcons. He is a talented forward who has solid offensive skills.
2004-05: Dahl had the biggest impact of all first year players for the Falcons. He finished the year with 12 goals and 30 points. He played in all 28 games and the 30 points was not only the most by any first year player, but second of all players. He scored four power-play goals. He picked up his first collegiate point , an assist, in his second game, a 6-1 win over Eau Claire on Oct. 30. In his next game he scored his first goal of his career, in a 3-3 tie with Augsburg on Nov. 5. He ended the season strong scoring at least one point in five of the team's last six games. He had three three-point games. He scored a goal and had two assists in a 4-1 win at Stout, he had two goals and an assist in a 5-2 win over Stevens Point on Feb. 11, and three assists in a 5-2 win over Eau Claire on Feb. 12. He earned honorable mention to the All-WIAC team. Dahl was the leading scorer of first year players in the NCHA and he finished the season with eight multiple point games. He was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and to the Dean's List.
Personal: Dahl attended Apple Valley High School where he earned honorable mention to the all-conference team. He helped lead the team to an undefeated 23-win season. He lists his biggest high school hockey thrill as helping the team to a 25-1 record in 2002. He earned the school's Valley Pride Award. In 2003-04 at Des Moines of the USHL, Dahl scored 19 goals and added 20 assists. He also played for the Tri-City Storm where he was named the team's Most Improved Player. He is the son of Todd and Nancy and has two brothers. Dahl is majoring in business.

Josh Hansen is another talented forward who is in his second year with the Falcons. He will help the team with his play in both ends of the rink from his forward position in 2005-06.
2004-05: Hansen joined the Falcons at the half way point of the season and played in eight of the final nine games of the season. He scored one goal and had two points. He scored his first collegiate goal in his first game, a 2-0 win over St. Scholastica on Jan. 28. It was also the game-winning goal. He added his assist in the team's 2-0 win over Superior on the following evening.
Personal: Hansen earned all-conference honors in hockey while playing at Austin High School. He lists his biggest high school hockey thrill as playing in the 2001 Minnesota State Tournament. Hansen is the brother of Nate, who played for the Falcons from 2002-05. His brother, Eric, is a member of the Falcon team. He is the son of Joni and Lee and has three brothers. Hansen is majoring in business management.

Wade Harstad is back for his second collegiate hockey season for the Falcons and plays the forward position.
2004-05: Harstad was a first year player who played an important role with the team. He played in 25 games and finished the season with five goals and 11 points. He scored two game-winning goals and one short-handed goal. He scored his first collegiate point in his first game. He picked up an assist in a 7-0 win over MSOE on Oct. 26. He scored his first collegiate goal in a 5-2 win over Hamline on Nov. 20. It was a short-handed goal. He finished the year with two multiple point games. He had two assists in the team's 5-1 win over Stout on Dec. 10 and two goals in a 5-2 win over Stevens Point on Feb. 11. He scored game-winning goals in a 4-2 win over St. Scholastica on Jan. 22 and the game vs. Stevens Point. He had one three game scoring streak when he had three goals and one assist.
Personal: Harstad attended Moorhead High School where he was named to the all-conference team. He helped lead the team to a second place finish in the Minnesota State Tournament. He lists his biggest high school hockey thrill as playing in the Minnesota State Tournament. Harstad scored 11 goals and dished out 17 assists in 2004 for St. Louis of the USHL. He is the son of Mark and Carla and has two brothers. Harstad is majoring in bio-medical science.

2004-05: Henkemeyer proved to be a solid defenseman with good puck handling skills. In 13 games he finished with four assists. He scored his first collegiate point in his first game. He picked up an assist in a 7-0 win over MSOE on Oct. 26.
Personal: He earned all-conference honors as a defenseman at St. Cloud Apollo High School. He helped Bismarck of the NAHL win the Borne Cup. He is the son of Mike and Pat and has two sisters. Henkemeyer is majoring in marketing.

JJason Usher

Jason Usher demonstrated outstanding all-around skills at the blue line last year and will be an important player in his second year playing defense in 2005-06.
2004-05: Usher played in all 28 games for the Falcons and finished with three goals and 15 total points. He scored two power-play goals and one game-winner. He started the season strong with five points in his first three games. In mid season he scored at least one point in four straight games. He scored his first collegiate goal in his first game, a 7-0 win over MSOE on Oct. 26. It was both a power-play goal and the game-winner. He scored his other power-play goal in a 6-2 win at Marian on Jan. 7. He was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and was named to the Dean's List in both the fall and spring semesters.
Personal: While playing for Fairbanks of the NAHL in 2004, Usher was named the team's top defenseman and put up 24 points (7-17). He helped lead the team to the NAHL playoffs. At Eden Prairie High School he was the team's captain in 2002 and a Great 8 participant. He also played in the Minnesota State Tournament. He was the president of the Friends Forever Club - an organization that gathered handicapped students with the general student population. He earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll and was named to the All-Academic team. Usher also played on the high school football team that won the Minnesota State Championship. He lists his biggest high school hockey thrill as playing in the Minnesota State High School hockey tournament. He is the son of Dave and Randi and has one sister. Usher is majoring in psychology.

In 2005 he played in 52 games and scored four goals and 12 points. He was named the team's Most Improved Player in 2004. At Spring Lake Park High School he was his team's leading scorer, captain, Most Valuable Player and earned a spot on the all-conference team in 2003. He won the team's Mr. Hustle Award three times. He was an Academic Honors graduate. He lists his biggest junior hockey thrill as trailing a team, 3-1, with five minutes to play and his team scoring two goals to force overtime. The team trailed in a shoot out, 3-0, but rebounded to take a 4-3 win. He is the son of Deb and Dave and has two sisters. Clark is majoring in health & human performance.

He was the team's Unsung Hero Award winner in 2004 and was an alternate captain. In 2005 he was an alternate captain and earned honorable mention for the team's Player of the Week award. While playing at Fairbanks he helped that team to the National playoffs. At Austin High School he was named to the Minnesota All-State team in 2003. He was the team's captain as a senior, in 2003, and was named to the all-conference team for three straight seasons. He was the leading scorer among first year players in the league with 43 goals and 87 points. He was named the team's Rookie of the Year. In 2005 he scored 36 goals and 73 total points in 55 games. Norman was twice named to the league's All-Star team. He is the son of Carla and Wayne and has one sister. Norman is undecided on a major field of study.
