TJ Dahl
Sophomore Forward is Young Leader For Falcons
|
By John Hepokoski Dahl started playing hockey when he was three years old and gained a love for the game quickly. His Dad played a huge role in implanting the hockey mindset within Dahl. His family is an important part of Dahl's life. He was raised by his father, Todd, and his mother, Nancy. Dahl has two younger brothers; Brady who is 18 and Brett who is 11. "Family vacations were always a lot of fun, especially when we went to Florida." Dahl grew up in Burnsville, Minn., and was a hockey success story from the very beginning. He attended Apple Valley High School where he led the team to a 25-1 record his senior season. Dahl also made the honorable mention all-conference list. Following his success at the high school level, Dahl went on to play junior hockey for Des Moines and Tri-City of the USHL. At Des Moines, Dahl recorded 19 goals to go along with 20 assists. "My favorite memory from juniors had to be living with my host family when I played in Tri-City," said Dahl. Improving on his already stellar hockey career would be a tough goal for anyone to reach, but Dahl was able to do so when he made the decision to become a Falcon. "Coach Freeman has taught me a lot. He's taught me to give 100 percent in both hockey and life," said the 6-0, 192 pound forward. In his first season, Dahl proved to be a great addition to an already solid Falcon squad. Dahl tallied 12 goals and 18 assists in helping River Falls to a 17-9-2 overall record. He was named to the All-WIAC team and was the leading scorer of the NCHA freshmen class. "TJ is a great all-around player," said Falcon Coach Steve Freeman. "His hockey knowledge and puck skills have helped us win a lot of games these past two years." So far this season, his sophomore campaign, Dahl has continued his strong play. He has totaled nine goals and 17 assists. Dahl's 26 total points is second on the team to Derek Hansberry's 29. He is fourth in assists and ninth in scoring in the NCHA. "My favorite moment as a Falcon would be when I got my first hat trick against Eau Claire this season," said Dahl. The Falcons beat the Blugolds 7-3 at Hunt Arena on Nov. 19. In his down time, Dahl hangs out with his roommates and watches "Nip/Tuck." He also frequents the golf course to improve his back-up sport. Dahl is a huge fan of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and models his game after center Mark Hartigan of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Dahl is majoring in business and if all goes according to plan, he will graduate in four years. Following graduation he plans on getting a job, maybe even working for his Dad's company. "When I leave I will definitely miss playing in games and all the friends I have made along the way." |
