Retzlaff, Anderson Named to 2005

Football Gazette All-West Retion Team

Falcon defensive tackle Aaron Retzlaff (Sr., Shawano, Wis.) and fullback Nathan Anderson (So., Marinette, Wis.) have both been named to the 2005 Football Gazette All-West Region third team.

Retzlaff, 6-1, 300 pounds, was a key leader for the Falcon defense. A solid run stopper in the middle of the line, he was named to the first All-WIAC team in 2004. He started all 10 games and had 21 solo and 36 total tackles in 2005. He had 3.5 tackles for loss, including one sack. He showed his agility when he dropped off the line of scrimmage and intercepted a pass and returned it four yards against Pacific Lutheran. He recovered one fumble, against Stevens Point. He also forced one fumble, against Oshkosh. He twice finished with six tackles in a game; against Pacific Lutheran (4-2) and Oshkosh (4-2). He had two quarterback hurries and broke up a pass. He was named the WIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his game against Pacific Lutheran. Retzlaff was named to the first All-WIAC team, for the second straight season, and to the d3Football.com Third All-Region West Team, earlier this year.

Anderson, 5-10, 220 pounds, led the Falcons in rushing and was third in the WIAC with 1,265 yards. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry and scored six touchdowns. He tied a UWRF record with 44 carries against Eau Claire in 2005. He started all 10 games for the Falcons and he rushed for more than 200 yards twice and for more than 100 yards in three other games. His best game was against Eau Claire when he rushed for 230 yards. He now has 10 career 100+ rushing games. His long run of the year was 36 yards against Eau Claire. He also caught three passes for 36 yards and one touchdown. Anderson was named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Week for his game against Pacific Lutheran. He was named the team's Player of the Week four times - against Stout, Eau Claire, Pacific Lutheran and Con.-St. Paul. Earlier this year Anderson was named to the first All-WIAC team.

The Falcons finished the year with a record of 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the WIAC.

Retzlaff Named to d3Football.com Third All-Region West Team

Aaron Retzlaff (Sr., Shawano, Wis.) has been named to the 2005 d3Football.com All-Region West third team.

Five Named to 2005 All-WIAC Football Teams

Nathan Anderson (So., Marinette, Wis.), Aaron Retzlaff (Sr., Shawano, Wis.), Jeff Cassellius (Sr., Glenwood City, Wis.), Nate Cook (Sr., Rice Lake, Wis.) and Matt Jordan (Jr., Thorp, Wis.) have all been named to 2005 All-WIAC football teams.

Anderson was named to the first offensive team and Retzlaff to the first defensive unit. Cassellius was named to the second defensive team, Cook earned honorable mention to the offensive team and Jordan earned honorable mention to the defensive unit.

Anderson, a 5-10, 220 pound fullback, led the Falcons in rushing and was third in the WIAC with 1,265 yards. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry and scored six touchdowns. He tied a UWRF record with 44 carries against Eau Claire in 2005. He started all 10 games for the Falcons and he rushed for more than 200 yards twice and for more than 100 yards in three other games. His best game was against Eau Claire when he rushed for 230 yards. He now has 10 career 100+ rushing games. His long run of the year was 36 yards against Eau Claire. He also caught three passes for 36 yards and one touchdown. Anderson was named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Week for his game against Pacific Lutheran. Cassellius, a 6-5, 225 pound defensive end, was one of the team's top pass rushers. He started and played in nine games and finished the year with 17 solo and 30 total tackles. He tied for the team lead in sacks with 3.5 and tied for the team lead in tackles for loss with six. He was second for the Falcons in passes broken up (3) and he led the Falcons in quarterback hurries (9). Cassellius twice had six tackles in a game - against Pacific Lutheran (4-2) and Platteville (3-3). He had three quarterback hurries against Platteville. He was named the team's Defensive Player of the Week for his game against Bemidji.

Cook, a 6-4, 274 pound offensive tackle, started all 10 games for the Falcons in 2005. He was one of the team's senior leads in the line and helped the Falcons average 282.3 yards a game. The Falcons were consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the NCAA Div. III team rushing category throughout the season. The Falcons led the WIAC in rushing and were ranked No. 7 in the country as of Nov. 15. Cook was named the team's Offensive Player of the Week for his game against Oshkosh when the Falcons earned a 13-10 overtime win and finish with 291 yards of total offense.

Jordan, a 5-8, 170 pound cornerback, was one of the top cover corners in the WIAC. He started and played in all 10 games and was often assigned to cover the opponent's top receiver. He finished seventh on the team in tackles with 36 solo and 57 total stops. He led the team with four pass break ups, four blocked kicks and three fumble recoveries. He finished tied for first in the WIAC with three recoveries. Jordan had two tackles for loss and he intercepted two passes. He also made an impact on special teams and was named the WIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his game against Con.-St. Paul. He was named the team's Defensive Player of the Week for his game against Eau Claire. Jordan finished with more than 10 tackles in three games - against Con.-St. Paul (6-4-10), Eau Claire (6-5-11) and Stevens Point (9-1-10). He blocked three kicks in two games; he had two against Con.-St. Paul and one against Bemidji. Against La Crosse he blocked an extra point that led to two points. Jordan returned 13 kickoffs and averaged a team high 20.2 yards per return. He also returned three punts and averaged 14.7 per return.

The Falcons finished the year with a record of 3-7 overall 2-5 WIAC records.

Falcons Lose Season Finale 35-16 At UW-Whitewater

The Falcons lost their fifth conference game of the year, 35-16, at UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon at Perkins Stadium.

UWW scored the points of the game on a Justin Jacobs four-yard touchdown run. The drive was set up by a Shane Hanson fumbled punt return at the RF 23 yard line. The drive covered 23 yards in five plays. Late in the first quarter, UWW got on the board again - this time Travis Reuland ran it in from one-yard out. Two-point conversion failed. The drive covered 85 yards in 11 plays and Whitewater led after the first quarter, 13-0.

The Warhawks got on the board first in the scond quarter on another Jacobs touchdown run this time from 13-yards out to make the score 20-0. RF finally got on the bored late in the first half on an 11-yard Jeremy Wolff to Dave Affeldt pass. Affeldt ran in the two point conversion to make it a 20-8 game. The drive covered 80 yards in 15 plays.

In the third quarter, UWW started strong. Justin Beaver got in the act with a four-yard touchdown run. Derek Stanley caught the two point conversion pass to make it a 28-8 game. The drive covered 52 yards in three plays. Later in the third quarter RF got on the board again this time by Nathan Anderson who ran it in from two-yards out. Affeldt's two point conversion run was good to make the score 28-16 UWW. The drive covered 75 yards in 17 plays.

UWW scored the only points of the fourth quarter on a Jacobs to Pete Schmitt 21-yard touchdown pass to make the score 35-16. The drive covered 50 yards in nine plays.

RF was led by Anderson's 98 yards rushing and one touchdown. Wolff chipped in with 66 yards running and one passing touchdown. Affeldt led the team with 31 yards receiving and one touchdown. UWW was led by Beaver who had 145 yards rushing and one touchdown. Jacobs passed for 179 yards and had one touchdown. He also had two rushing touchdowns.

On defense the Falcons were led by Robby Nesvig who had eight solo and three assisted tackles. Tyler Hasse (6-1), Dan Buker (5-2), and Andy Acosta (6-0) were next for the Falcons.

The Falcons finished the year with a record of 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the WIAC.

Falcons Lose Shootout To UW-La Crosse 40-25

The Falcons lost their fourth conference game of the year, 40-25, to UW-La Crosse Saturday afternoon at Ramer Field.

RF scored the first points of the game on a Spasmir Bodurski 38-yard field goal. The drive covered 52 yards in 12 plays. Later in the first quarter UWL got on the board with a two-yard John Schumann to Dustin Esser touchdown pass to make the score 7-3 UWL. The drive covered 74 yards in 17 plays. After a Matt Jordan fumbled kick return, La Crosse scored another touchdown four plays later on a two-yard Kevin Schultz touchdown run. The extra point was blocked and returned all the way for two points by Joey Simonson. The score after the first quarter was 13-5 UWL.

After a Gregg Neumann blocked punt at the UWL 14-yard line, the Falcons capitalized with a four-yard Jeremy Wolff touchdown run to pull the Falcons to within 13-11. Two-point conversion failed. The drive covered 14 yards in four plays. That was how the first half ended.

The Eagles wasted little time scoring in the third quarter, taking the opening possession for a touchdown which was capped off by an 11-yard Schumann to Eric Kettenhofen 11-yard pass. The drive covered 72 yards in 12 plays. UWL added one more touchdown in the third quarter on a Corey Celdernick 14-yard touchdown run to put UWL ahead, 25-11.

RF scored the first points of the fourth quarter on a four-yard Nathan Anderson touchdown run to make the score 25-17. Extra point was missed. The Eagles put the game away on their very next possession scoring on another Schumann touchdown pass this time to Jason Wagner from four-yards out. Two-point conversion was good. The drive covered 59 yards in seven plays.

After a Wolff fumble at the UWL 35, the Eagles scored again on a 23-yard Steve Tennies to Scott Swanson touchdown pass. The drive covered 35 yards in five plays. The Falcons scored the last points of the game on a Wolff to Josh Grover 12-yard touchdown pass. The drive covered 68 yards in eight plays. That got the Falcons to within 40-25, but that was all the scoring for the day.

RF was led by Anderson's 95 yards on the ground and one touchdown. Wolff chipped in with 76 yards and one rushing touchdown. He also added 48 yards passing and one touchdown. UWL was led by Schumann who had 214 yards and three touchdowns. Kettenhofen had six catches for 55 yards and one touchdown to lead the Eagles.

On defense the Falcons were led by Robby Nesvig who had eight solo and eight assisted tackles. Ryan Agrimson (4-11), Tony Dorner (4-5), and Dan Buker (3-6) were next for the Falcons in tackles.

The Falcons, now 3-6 (2-4 in WIAC) will travel to UW-Whitewater to finish the season on Saturday afternoon in a WIAC game. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. at Perkins Stadium.

Falcons Beat UW-Platteville 28-21 To Win Homecoming Game

The Falcons picked up a much needed win 28-21 over UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon at Ramer field.

RF got on the board first on a Spasmir Bodurski 20-yard field goal. It was set up by a Sean Wolf fumble recovery at the UWP 23-yard line. The RF drive covered 20 yards in six plays.

The Falcons scored the first points of the second quarter on another Bodurski field goal this time from 47 yards out. His field goal was a new school record. The drive covered 58 yards in 14 plays. On UWP's next possession Tyson Droessler scored a two-yard touchdown to give the Pioneers a 7-6 lead. The drive covered 44 yards in seven plays.

After a 48-yard Matt Jordan kickoff return, the Falcons scored three plays later on a Nathan Anderson three-yard run. Jeremy Wolff added the two-point conversion to make the score 14-7 RF. The drive covered 31 yards in three plays. RF added another touchdown late in the second quarter on the legs of Wolff. He ran it in from three yards out to make the score 21-7 at half. The drive covered for 55 yards in seven plays.

RF scored the only points of the third quarter on another Wolff touchdown run. He ran it in from 16 yards out to make the score 28-7 heading into the fourth quarter. The drive covered 89 yards in 13 plays.

UWP got on the board early in the fourth quarter on a Damian Droessler one-yard run. The drive covered 65 yards in 13 plays. The Pioneers scored the last points of the game on a Mike Genslinger 24-yard touchdown run to make the score 28-21 RF. The drive covered 80 yards in nine plays. That ended the scoring.

The Falcons were led by Anderson's 156 yards on the ground and one touchdown. It was Anderson's fifh 100+ rushing game of the season and the 10th of his career. He has rushed for 1,072 yards in 2005. Wolff also ran for over 100 yards chipping in with 136 yards and two touchdowns. UWP was led by Tyson Droessler's 129 yards on the ground and one touchdown. Michael Schmidt threw for 112 yards but had three interceptions.

On defense the Falcons were led by Ryan Agrimson who had seven solo and four assisted tackles. Shane Hanson (6-4), Dan Buker (5-3), and Robby Nesvig (2-5) were next for the Falcons in tackles. Hanson, Nesvig, and Andy Acosta also added interceptions. Acosta leads the team with three picks.

The Falcons, now 3-5 (2-3 in WIAC) will host UW-LaCrosse on Saturday afternoon in a WIAC game. Kick off is set for 1 p.m., at Ramer field.

Falcons Lose WIAC Game at Stout, 38-6

The Falcons dodge a couple of early game bullets but lost a 38-6 WIAC game at UW-Stout on Saturday.

Stout took the opening kick off and drove to the Falcon 22 yard line before Andy Acosta intercepted a Stout pass to stop the drive. Later in the quarter Stout drove to the Falcon 16 before Matt Jordan recovered a fumble at the RF 12 to kill that drive.

But just before the first quarter ended the Falcons fumbled and Stout's Stephen Schils returned the ball 22-yards for a score to give his team a 7-0 lead after one quarter.

The Falcons went three and out and Stout took over at their 47. They drove to the Falcon 18 where Evan Larsen kicked a 35-yard field goal to make it a 10-0 game.  

The Falcons were forced to punt again on their next possession and Stout scored on a 17-yard run by Andy Reese to take a 17-0 lead. The drive covered 66 yards and took 3:04 off the clock. That was all of the scoring in the first half.

The Blue Devils scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter. Jesse Wendy scored on a 15-yard pass play from Tanner Kattre with 8:27 to play in the third quarter. On RF's next possession the Falcons threw an interception that led to another Stout score. Once again it was the Wendt-Kattre combination and the touchdown play covered 10-yards. The Falcons were stopped again after three plays and then Stout's Joe Seep returned the Falcon punt 69-yards for a score.

The Falcons finally got on the scoreboard with 7:41 to play in the game when Nathan Anderson went in from two-yards out. The drive covered 72 yards in 11 plays. The big play in the drive was a 28-yard run by Jeremy Wolff that gave the Falcons a first down at the UWS seven. Three plays later Anderson scored.

Anderson finished with 145 rushing yards to lead the Falcons. Wolff added 42 rushing yards, but finished 0-3 passing with two interceptions.

Shane Hanson led the Falcon defense with eight solo and 11 total tackles. Tony Dorner had one solo and 10 total stops. Ryan Agrimson had four solo and nine tackles while Nathan Renk had seven tackles including one sack.

The Falcons return to Ramer Field and host UW-Platteville on Saturday with kick off set for 1 p.m.

Falcons Lose To Pointers 23-16

The Falcons lost for the second week in a row, this time to UW-Stevens Point 23-16 Saturday afternoon at Goerke Field.

UWSP took the opening drive and got it all the way to the RF one-yard line. They had to settle for a 23-yard Dan Heldmann field goal. On the drive Stevens Point QB Brett Borchart was 7-8 passing for 49 yards.

UWSP got on the board early in the second quarter, again having to settle for another field goal. Heldmann connected on a 26-yard field goal to make the score 6-0. The drive covered 71 yards in 10 plays. After a Nathan Renk fumble recovery at the UWSP 28 the Falcons took tree plays and drove three-yards and had to settle for a 42-yard Spasimir Bodurski field goal.

Later in the second quarter, UWSP scored the first touchdown of the game on a 22-yard Borchart run to make the score 13-3 at 6:12. The drive covered 70 yards in six plays.

With under a minute left in the first half, RF scored its first touchdown on a Jeremy Wolff 32-yard run. Bodurski missed the extra point after the Falcons were penalized 15 yards after the score.The drive covered 73 yards and it took eight plays. The score at halftime was 13-9 UWSP.

UWSP got on the board halfway through the third quarter on another Heldmann field goal - this time from 24 yards out. The drive covered 74 yards and it took 11 plays. RF answered right back two plays later on Wolff's 69 yard run and it tied the score at 16. The drive covered 75 yards. The score after the third quarter was tied at 16.

Stevens Point put the game away on the drive of the game. The drive covered 86 yards in 15 plays and Borchart ran it in from one-yard out to make the score 23-16 UWSP.

The Falcons got the ball back with 7:21 to play and moved it to the UWSP 42 before turning the ball on downs. UWSP was then able to run the final 3:10 off the clock.

RF was led by Wolff's 207 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Nathan Anderson added another 70 on the ground. Chris Anderson led the team with 37 yards receiving.

UWSP was led by Borchart who had 255 yards passing and 84 yards rushing to go along with his two touchdown runs. Cody Childs caught 11 passes for 107 yards.

Cornerback Matt Jordan led the Falcon defense with nine solo and 10 total tackles. Andy Acosta (7-1), Tony Dorner (7-1) and Robby Nesvig (7-0) were next for the Falcons in tackles.

The Falcons, now 2-4 (1-2 in WIAC) will travel to UW-Stout on Saturday afternoon in a WIAC game. Kick off is set for 1 p.m., at Williams Stadium.

Falcons Lose To UW-Eau Claire 21-11

The Falcon football lost its first WIAC game of the year, 21-11, to UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon.

The Blugolds took the opening possession and drove 80 yards in nine plays. Tony Hull capped off the drive with a five-yard touchdown catch from Jesse Krzyzanowski. After a Falcon punt, Eau Claire came right back on its next drive scoring again on a Krzyzanowski pass to Hull - this time from seven-yards out to make the score 14-0 after the first quarter.

RF got on the board early in the second quarter on Spasmir Bodurski's 21-yard field goal capping off a 15-play 67 yard drive. On their very next possession the Blugolds stormed down the field and scored again on a one-yard Joe Gast touchdown run. The drive was 10 plays covering 75 yards. UWEC led at the half, 21-3.

In the third quarter RF was driving the ball and got it all the way to the UWEC 18 when Jeremy Wolff fumbled and Eau Claire's Nate Jahn recovered. There was no third quarter scoring.

The Falcons scored the only points of the fourth quarter on Chris Anderson's 13-yard touchdown catch from Wolff. Dave Afffeldt added the two-point conversion to make the score 21-11. The drive covered 85 yards in 10 plays. That ended the scoring.

RF was led by Nathan Anderson's 44 rushes for 232 yards on the ground - both were career highs. Wolff chipped in with 34 yards on the ground and one touchdown pass. Chris Anderson led the team with 34 yards receiving and one touchdown catch.

UWEC was led by Krzyanowski's 183 yards passing and two touchdown. He completed 15 straight passes to start the game. Gast led the team on the ground with 78 yards on 22 carries along with one touchdown. Hull had seven catches for 63 yards and two touchowns.

Falcon cornerback Matt Jordan led the Falcon defense with six solo and 11 total tackles. Tony Dorner (3-10), Andy Acosta (4-9) and Shane Hanson (7-8) were next for the Falcons in tackles. Jeff Cassellius also added a sack for the Falcon defense.

The Falcons, now 2-3 (1-1 in WIAC) will travel to UW-Stevens Points on Saturday afternoon in a WIAC game. Kick off is set for 1 p.m., at Goerke field.

Falcons Beat UW-Oshkosh 13-10 To Pick Up First WIAC Win

The Falcon football team picked up its second win of the season, 13-10, over UW-Oshkosh at Titan stadium Saturday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, UWO got on the board first with a Tyler Jandrin one yard touchdown plunge. He capped off a 14 play 57 yard drive. UWRF responded right before half time on Chris Anderson's five yard catch from Jeremy Wolff at :09. The drive was 10 plays covering 72 yards. The score at half was tied at seven.

Halfway through the third quarter UWO got on the board again this time on Lucas Raschke's 26 yard field goal at 7:59 to make the score 10-7 UWO. It capped off an eight play 27 yard drive. That was the only scoring of the third quarter.

The Falcons faught back once again this time scoring with under two minutes left in the fourth quarter on Spasimir Bodurski's 21 yard field goal with 1:51 left in the game. It capped off a four play eight yard drive. The score after regulation was tied at 10.

In overtime, the Falcons won it on Bodurski's 33 yard field goal which capped off a four play nine yard drive. RF won the game and improved to 1-0 in WIAC play.

RF was led by Nathan Anderson's 87 rushing yards on 22 carries. Wolff also pitched in with 72 yards on the ground and 84 passing to go along with his one touchdown pass. Chris Anderson led the team with three catches for 33 yards and one touchdown.

Falcon linebacker Dan Buker led the Falcon defense with eight solo and 10 total tackles. Tony Dorner (4-9), Ben Hoglund (3-9) and Ryan Agrimson (4-8) were next for the Falcons in tackles. Aaron Retzlaff and Gregg Neumann also had one sack each.

The Falcons, now 2-2 (1-0 in WIAC) will host UW-Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon in a WIAC game. Kick off is set for 1 p.m., at Ramer field.

The Falcon offensive line has been named to the Sept. 27 d3football.com Team of the Week.

Members of the offensive line include; tackles Jordan Miller and Nate Cook, guards Ryan Abbott and Nathan Tenut, centers Dave Kapping and Scott Witte and tight ends Andy Marx and Ryan Hansen. Several other Falcon offensive lineman played in the game also.

The Falcons rushed for 506 yards and four touchdowns in the team's 45-14 win over Pacific Lutheran, averaging 7.9 yards per carry. The team finished with 560 total yards and averaged 7.5 yards per play.

Two Falcons, fullback Nathan Anderson and quarterback Jeremy Wolff, both rushed for over 100 yards in the game. Anderson finished with a career high 205 yards and one touchdown while Wolff rushed for 168 yards and one score. Anderson averaged 8.5 yards per carry and Wolff 9.9. Anderson had a long run of 33 yards and Wolff had a long run of 80 yards. David Affeldt, who gained 75 yards on only four carries, had one run of 57 yards.

The Falcons are currently ranked sixth in the NCAA Div. III in rushing averaging 317.3 yards per game. Anderson is ranked 23rd in the NCAA Div. III individual rushing statistics and Wolff is ranked 33rd. Anderson is averaging 128 rushing yards a game and Wolff 121.7.

Falcons Picks Up First Win Of Season Against Pacific Lutheran 45-14

The Falcon football team picked up its first win of the season, 45-14, over Pacific Lutheran at Ramer Field Saturday afternoon.

RF scored the first points of the game on their second possession. Zeke Secrist capped off a seven play 70-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run at 8:42. The Falcons led after the first quarter, 7-0.

The Falcons scored the next points of the game on ball control. The Falcons drove 86 yards in 14 plays which was capped off by a 22-yard Dan Keller field goal. On PLU's next possession they took the ball all the way to the RF 15 where Tony Dorner forced a Adam Fallert fumble which was recovered by Matt Jordan. The Falcons took no time in scoring off the turnover. Jeremy Wolff ran 80-yards for an RF touchdown to make the score 17-0 RF at 5:02.

PLU got on the board later in the second quarter going 80 yards in eight plays which was capped off by Matt Steiner's three-yard touchdown run. RF scored the last points of the first half on Ryan Hansen's eight-yard touchdown catch from halfback Andy Kolstad. Kolstad took a pitch and on the halfback option hit Hansen in the end zone. The drive covered 64 yards in seven plays. RF led at the half, 24-7.

The Falcons scored the only points of the third quarter on Nathan Anderson's nine-yard touchdown run at 7:10. RF drove the ball 42 yards in six plays.

RF continued its dominance of PLU with the first points of the fourth quarter on another Hansen touchdown catch this time from Wolff. The catch was from two-yards out and the drive covered 90 yards in 16 plays. RF scored once again after driving 73 yards in five plays; B.J. LeRoy scored from two-yards out to make the score 45-7 RF at 7:22. PLU got on the board one last time after Chris Maine connected for a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Washburn.

Statistically, RF ran the ball 64 times for a whopping 506 yards. Anderson led the Falcons with 205 yards and one touchdown. Wolff had 168 yards and one touchdown. Dave Affeldt had 75 yards and Ryan Hansen caught two passes for 10 yards and scored two touchdowns. PLU was led by Chris Maine's 434 yards passing and one touchdown. Craig Chiado caught 11 passes for 218 yards for PLU.

Falcon cornerback Shane Hanson led the Falcon defense with 10 solo and 12 total tackles. Andy Acosta (3-7), Tyler Hasse (3-7) and Jeff Cassellius (2-6) were next for the Falcons in tackles. Cassellius also added a sack. Gregg Neumann had five total tackles with two sacks. Dan Buker and Jesse Osttertag also had one sack each.

The Falcons, now 1-2, will travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday to open WIAC play. Kick off is set for 7 p.m., at Titan Stadium

Falcons Fall To Bemidji State 35-19

The Falcon football team lost their second game of the year, 35-19, to Bemidji State at Ramer Field Saturday afternoon.

BSU started the game quickly, scoring on their first offensive play with an 80-yard Nathan Sannes to Johnathan Hawks pass. After a Matt Jordan blocked punt at the BSU 15, the Falcons socred three plays later on Nathan Anderson's 1-yard touchdown run at 4:24 to make the score 7-7 after the first quarter.

RF opened the second quarter scoring first on Jeremy Wolff's 52-yard touchdown run at 9:07 to make the score 13-7, after a Dan Keller missed extra point. After a Jovin Kroll fumbled the snap on a punt attempt, BSU took over at the Falcons 43. Five plays later Sannes conected for another touchdown pass, this time to Chad Christianson, covering 10 yards to make the score 14-13 BSU at halftime.

BSU scored the only points of the third quarter on another Sannes pass this time to Tony Schreiber covering 50 yards at :52. The score after the third quarter was 21-13 BSU.

RF scored the first points of the fourth quarter taking the ball 75 yards in six plays capped off by Wolff's 53-yard touchdown run. The two point conversion failed. Wolff finished the day racking up 162 yards on the ground and 119 yards passing. Anderson also rushed for more than 100 yards racking up 115 yards on 30 carries along with one touchdown.

Sannes marched his team right back down the field on the very next possesion. BSU covered 68 yards in six plays. Sannes threw his last of four touchdown passes, this time Schreiber, covering 10 yards at 10:57. Schreiber scored the last points of the game scoring on an 18-yard run capping off an 11-play 87-yard drive to end the scoring. Schreiber ended the day with six catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Sannes passed for 287 yards and four touchdowns along with one interception.

Falcon linebacker Tony Dorner led the Falcon defense with four solo and eight total tackles. Aaron Retzlaff (4-2), Andy Acosta (3-3) and Mike Larson (3-3) all had six tackles. Gregg Neumann and Jeff Cassellius combined for a sack and Neumann had two quarterback hurries.

The Falcons, now 0-2, will host Pacific Lutheran Saturday at Ramer Field. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.

Falcons Open Season With 26-21 Loss to CSP

The Falcon football team lost their first game of the year, 26-21, to Concordia-St. Paul at Ramer Field Saturday afternoon.

UWRF opened the game with the first points capped off by Andy Kolstad's 1-yard touchdown run at 3:37 of the first quarter. The Falcons capitalized on a muffed CSP punt that was recovered by Ryan Agrimson at the CSP 19. Chris Anderson caught an 18 yards pass from quarterback Jeremy Wolff to get the Falcons to the one and Kolstad, playing halfback, scored on the next play.

CSP drove down the field after taking the kickoff and nearly scored. On a third-and-two play from the UWRF 42, halfback Brian Holmes broke free and looked like he was going to score. But Agrimson caught him from behind and forced a fumble that was recovered by Shane Hanson in the end zone.  

Concordia kicker Brody Johnson kicked a 41 yard field goal in the second quarter to make the score 7-3 at halftime. CSP drove 55 yards in 13 plays to get the field goal. Falcon defensive end Jeff Cassellius sacked CSP quarterback James McNear for a 16-yard loss on a third-and-four play from the UWRF eight. CSP then settled for the field goal.

Concordia opened the second half quickly scoring on McNear's touchdown pass to Nate Harrington covering 31 yards. CSP drove 66 yards in eight plays to score.

River Falls answered right back with a 1-yard Dave Affeldt touchdown dive to give the Falcons a 15-9 lead. Matt Jordan set up the score when he returned a CSP punt 29 yards to give the Falcons a first down at the Golden Bear 17. Wolff hit Nathan Anderson with the two-point conversion pass.

Concordia answered right back with a six play 70 yard drive capped off by Aaron Cawthorn's 15-yard run to make the score 16-15. They added a 37-yard Johnson field goal to make the score 19-15 after the third quarter.

Cawthorn scored the first touchdown of the fourth quarter from 5-yards out capping off an eight play 72 yard drive. Cawthorn finished the game with two touchdowns and 98 yards rushing.

UWRF scored once more on Anderson's 2-yard touchdown reception from Wolff. A two point conversion failed and that was all of the scoring.

Anderson led UWRF with 64 yards rushing on 17 attempts. Wolff, who rushed for 36 yards, was 8-20 passing for 140 yards and one touchdown. Josh Grover led the team with three catches for 63 yards. Jordan led the Falcons with 10 tackles. He blocked two kicks and broke up two passes. Greg Neumann had seven tackles, including two for a loss of yardage. He also recovered a fumble. Andy Acosta and Cassellius also had tackles for loss.

The Falcons, now 0-1, will host Bemidji on Saturday at Ramer Field. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
