Eight student-athletes will attend UW-River Falls in the fall and compete with the Falcon women's hockey team.

One goalie, two defensemen and four forwards will join the Falcons, who finished 19-7-4 in 2004. UWRF, a charter member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, finished in a tie for second place in the league standings with a 11-4-1 record.

"I think last year we lacked a little depth, and I think this recruiting class will give us the depth that we need," said Falcon Coach Joe Cranston. "Last year we had to depend on freshmen to step in and contribute right away. Next year will be our best core of returning players that we have ever had. I think this recruiting class will help
with our overall team speed too. It will be tough to replace Lindsy Carlson and Jodi Hensch, our two all time leading scorers, but with so many more experienced players coming back, and a good recruiting class, I think next year will be a good one."

Two players, Kacie Anderson and Renae Bergh, competed with the Shattuck St. Mary's Prep team in 2003-04. Both are defensemen. Forward Kelly Snedeker, from Maple Grove, Minn., competed with the Minnesota Thoroughbreds. The five others played high school hockey in Minnesota last year. Forwards Amy Bruggeman and Kristen Juven both played at Moorhead, Minn., High School. Forward Kelly Jensen played at Eden Prairie, Minn., High School and goalie Amanda Mohwinkel played at White Bear Lake, Minn., High School. Forward Jenna Scanlon played at Apple
Valley, Minn., High School. Her brother, Andy, was a sophomore goalie for the Falcon men's team in 2003-04 and was named the Most Valuable Player.

UWRF has won one NCHA playoff title (2003) and participated in the NCAA Div. III playoffs in 2003. The Falcons also won the regular season title in 2003.

The Falcons open their season on Nov. 5 at St. Catherine. Action starts at 7 p.m.
