2004 Falcon Volleyball Player of the Week

Nov. 1, 2004
Outside hitter Nina Petersen (Sr., Byron, Minn.) helped the
Falcons to a 3-1 record in the UWRF Trick or Treat Tournament held
last weekend at the Karges Center. Petersen played in all 16 games
and averaged 3.5 kills, one assist, 2.1 digs and 1.1 blocks a game.
She had 19 kills, 10 assists, six digs, one solo and six block assists
in the match against Superior. She was named to the All-Tournament
team.

Sept. 25, 2004
Right side hitter Nina Petersen (Sr., Byron, Minn.) continues
to be a leader for the young Falcon team and continues to put up
some big numbers. Petersen led the Falcons to a 2-2 record at the
UW-Whitewater Invite last weekend. Earlier in the week the Falcons
topped UW-Eau Claire in a WIAC match. In the five matches she finished
with 88 kills, averaging 4.63 a game. She finished with a .300 hitting
percentage. She had 12 assists, eight service aces and 50 digs.
She also had three solo and 15 block assists. "She came up
really big against some nationally ranked competition," Falcon
Coach Patti Ford said.

Oct. 18, 2004
Outside hitter Katie Thompson (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) helped
the Falcons to two WIAC wins last week over Superior (30-23, 30-25,
30-18) and Stevens Point (30-23, 30-21, 30-19). Thompson has burst
into a staring role with Falcons and continues to improve. In the
Falcons two games this week, Thompson averaged 5.3 kills per game
and was also among the leaders in digs (18). Thompson finished the
week with 32 kills, 18 digs, three service aces and three block
assists.

Oct. 11, 2004
Setter Kat Krtnick (So., Fridley, Minn.) has stepped into
a starting role this year and provided the Falcons with leadership
and experience. In addition to being the team's setter, Krtnick
ranks third on the team in digs (317) and fourth in service aces
(21). This weekend, Krtnick was named to the All-Tournament team
at the UW-Platteville Invitational. She averaged 11.8 assists and
3.4 digs per game. "She has really stepped it up," said
Coach Patti Ford. "She is spreading out the offense well and
her defense is always solid."

Oct. 4, 2004
Outside hitter Katie Thompson (So., Forest Lake, MN) continues
to put up great offensive numbers for the Falcons, and is always
among the leaders in digs as well. Thompson started her season on
the bench, but recently cemented her place in the starting lineup.
Over the weekend WIAC road trip to Oshkosh and Whitewater, Thompson
helped the Falcons to a 1-1 record with 31 kills, 20 digs, and three
service aces. She led the Falcons in kills and hitting percentage
in both matches.

Outside hitter Katie Thompson (So., Forest Lake, Minn.)
has secured her spot in the starting lineup with a strong performance
at the UW-Eau Claire Invite. Thompson had strong games in every
match during the tournament and was named to the All-Tournament
team. She finished the week with 73 kills and averaged 3.8 per game.
She had a .222 hitting percentage and had double digit kills in
every match at the UWED Invite. She also averaged 3.3 digs a game
and had four aces, three solo blocks and one block assist. "She
is putting up big offensive numbers and she is getting better on
defense," said Coach Patti Ford.

Sept. 20, 2004
Setter Kat Krtnick (So., Fridley, MN) has stepped into the
role of setter this year and has provided the Falcons with some
leadership that is much needed for the young team. In addition to
being the setter she is also one of the Falcons best defensive players,
according to Coach Patti Ford. She helped the Falcons win two out
of three matches last week including a win against La Crosse where
she had 55 set assists and 21 digs. Combined over the three matches
Krtnick had 149 assists and 40 digs. "Kat is doing an unbelievable
job running things," Ford said. "She's the right person
for the job. She's smart and she knows whom to set to when. The
chemistry that comes from her jels the whole team."

Rightside hitter Nina Petersen (Sr., Byron, Minn.) helped
the Falcons to four wins at the Hamline Invitational last weekend.
She finished with 66 kills and a .240 hitting percentage. She had
15 assists, six aces, 39 digs, one solo block and eight block assists.
She was one of two Falcons named to the All-Tournament team. "Nina
had about four kills a game with high hitting percentages and good
defense. She is really stepping up her game," Falcon head coach
Patti Ford said.
