Falcon women's basketball player Erin Effle (Sr., Rochester, Minn. John Marshall HS) has been named the 2005 WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete. Effle, a post player, also was named to the first All-WIAC team in 2005. Effle has been named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She has earned UWRF Dean's List honors in fall 2004 and spring 2004. She was a member of the UWRF Student Athlete Athletic Council in 2002-03. She is majoring in biology (biomed) with a minor in chemistry. She carries a 3.288 cumulative grade point average. Effle, who was named to the 2004 All-WIAC first team and earned honorable mention to the 2002 and 2003 teams, had four great seasons for the Falcons. She is the first Falcon to be named to an All-WIAC team in all four years of competition. This year she led the team in scoring (13.2) and rebounding (6.9). She started all 21 games she played in and shot 115-231 from the field (.498), tops on the team. She was 3-11 from three-point range (.273) and 45-70 (.643) from the line. She had 31 assists, 20 blocks and 50 steals. She was second on the team in blocks, third in steals and fourth in assists. Effle averaged 25.7 minutes of playing time a game. She scored a career-high 29 points in a 75-68 win at UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 15. Her high rebounds game was 12 in a Jan. 25 loss (69-65) to UW-Stout. She had four double-doubles during the season. Effle finished sixth in scoring and rebounding in the WIAC. She was fifth in the WIAC in field goal shooting and blocked shots. She was named the team's Player of the Week five times during the 2004-05 season and was named the WIAC Player of the Week on Feb. 21. She was one of the team's captains in 2005 and 2004. Effle finished her career averaging 12.6 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. She scored 1,181 points and grabbed 613 rebounds. She led the Falcons in scoring in 2003 and 2004 and led the team in rebounding in 2002 and 2003. She is the fourth Falcon to receive the WIAC women's basketball Scholar-Athlete award. Missy Johnson won in 1999, Kris Buhrt in 1990 and Vickie Johnson in 1989. The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award, which is sponsored by Culver's, is presented to the most outstanding senior from each conference sport during the year who exhibits the greatest combination of performance and achievement in academics, athletics and leadership. The Women's Scholar-Athlete Award was renamed the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award effective with the 1998-99 season. |
