Four Falcons Named to All-WIAC Football Teams

Peterlik, Ammann, Retzlaff, Gillett Honored

Four Falcon football players have been named to 2004 All-WIAC teams voted on by the league coaches.

Halfback John Peterlik (Sr., Cadott, Wis.) and defensive tackle Aaron Retzlaff (Sr., Shawano, Wis.) were both named to the first team. Peterlik was named as an all-purpose back. Center Chris Ammann (Sr., Holmen, Wis.) and linebacker Ben Gillett (Sr., Rosendale, Wis. Laconia HS) both earned honorable mention.

Peterlik, 5-7, 195, played a key role for the Falcons in running, throwing, catching and returning the ball. He led the Falcons in rushing for the second time in the past three years. He finished with 1,143 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry. He finished second in the WIAC in rushing and led the league in per carry average and rushing touchdowns. He completed 2-3 passes for 70 yards and one score. He led the Falcons in receptions with nine for 162 yards and he scored twice. He led the Falcons with seven punt returns and averaged 14.4 yards per return. He led the team in kick off returns, 18, and averaged 19.7 per return. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2004 and 2002. He missed, by 16 yards, the 1,000-yard mark in 2003. In his career he has carried the ball 535 times for 3,454 yards. He averaged 6.4 per carry and scored 34 rushing touchdowns. His career rushing yards is second all-time and his 34 career rushing touchdowns is fourth all-time at UWRF. Peterlik has named been named to the first All-WIAC team in 2002 and 2003. He started and played in every Falcon game.

Retzlaff, 6-2, 285, was a huge part of the Falcon defense in 2004. A leader in the interior line, Retzlaff finished the 2004 season with 28 solo and 36 total tackles. He had five tackles for loss and one sack. He had one quarterback hurried, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble. He played in eight of the team's 10 games.

Ammann, 6-0, 260, was a veteran and leader in the Falcon offensive line. He helped the Falcons rush for 2,982 yards this fall and lead the WIAC in rushing. UWRF has led the WIAC in rushing since 1974. He started and played in every Falcon game.

Gillett, 6-2, 210, was another one of the team's top players on defense. He led the 2004 Falcons in tackles with 42 solo and 78 total stops. He had four tackles for loss and one sack. He broke up two passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. He played in eight of the team's 10 games.

UWRF finished the 2003 season with a 3-7 overall record and were 3-4 in the WIAC.
