Meet the Falcons

Lindsy Carlson

Lindsy Carlson anchors a talented Falcon defense and is a co-captain this year. She was named an AHCA West All-American in 2003. She earned the team’s Blue Line Award. She finished with 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. She led the 2003 team with six power-play goals and finished third among defensemen in the country in power-play scores. Carlson has also been doing well in the classroom. She was named to both the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and the NCHA All-Academic team last year. She played for UWRF in the 2000-01 season and played at UW-Superior in the 2001-02 campaign. She has been named to the All-NCHA team the past three years and after her freshman season at UWRF was named the NCHA’s Player of the Year. She led UWRF in scoring that year finishing 13-19-32. In 2000-01 at UWS, she went 4-15-19 and was named to the JOFA/AHCA 2002 West Region All-American team. She participated with the Minnesota Selects three times. She is the daughter of Lauri and Robbyn and has three brothers. She is majoring in animal science.

Rachel Goodwin

Rachel Goodwin had her best season as a Falcon last year. She finished with three goals and five points while cutting her penalty minutes in half. She showed her smarts by being named to both the NCHA All-Academic team and the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. This year look for her to fill in as a defensive forward and working the penalty kill. In 2002-03, she had four assists. She scored seven goals and 15 assists as a senior at Duluth East High School and helped the team to two state tournament berths. She also played with the Minnesota Selects team and was an assistant captain. She is the daughter of Chuck and Marion and has two brothers. She is majoring in pre-pharmacy.

Jodi Hensch

Team captain Jodi Hensch will provide the Falcons a great leader presence. She tops the Falcon all-time scoring list with 54 points in 84 games. The defenseman had 12 assists and 18 points in 2003. She won the team’s Best Plus/Minus award and was named to the All-NCHA first team. In 2002, she finished sixth in scoring for the Falcons with four goals and eight assists for 12 points. She had three power-play goals. She was named to the All-NCHA team. She had a great rookie season finishing third in scoring with nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points. She had two power-play goals and a game-winner. Hensch finished sixth in assists in the NCHA. At Fergus Falls High School she finished her final season with 23 goals and 10 assists for 33 points. She was named her team’s Most Valuable Player and was a team captain for two seasons. Hensch also played with the Minnesota Selects. She is the daughter of Jerry and Becky and has one brother and one sister. She is majoring in business.

Jenny Kern

Jenny Kern is a first-year Falcon after transferring from MSU-Mankato where she played 59 games over two seasons. She sees the ice very well and will be a good addition to the team. She played high school hockey at Park Center High School and earned All-State honors one year. She earned All-State honorable mention two other years. Kern also played on the Minnesota Selects four years. She is the daughter of Brian and Diane and has one sister. She is majoring in health & human performance.


Nicole Magnuson

Nicole Magnuson joins the Falcons as a defenseman after playing the past two seasons at MSU-Mankato. In 61 games she scored three goals and eight assists at Mankato. At Chisago Lakes High School she was named to the Minnesota All-State second team and was given honorable mention to the team another season. She was her team's MVP and was a finalist for the Ms. Hockey award. Magnuson competed with the Minnesota Selects team and was named to the all-conference team. She is the daughter of Allen and Kim and has one brother and one sister. Her brother, Josh, played hockey for the Falcons from 2001-03. She is majoring in health & human performance.


Marlene Yaeger

Last year's team MVP Marlene Yaeger will serve as the team’s goalkeeper again this season after two terrific seasons. Last year she earned AHCA West All-American honors. She was named to the All-NCHA team and was the NCHA Co-Player of the Year. She was also the NCHA’s Player of the Week twice. She finished with a 1.60 goals against average and a .939 saves percentage. Yaeger finished third in the nation in saves percentage and was led all goalies in the west in that category. She broke her own school record by recording five shutouts last year. In her freshman year, she was named the team’s MVP. She also made the All-NCHA team. She holds UWRF records for most games in a season, most minutes played in a season, most wins in a season, best season save percentage and best season goals against average. She played with the Minnesota Thoroughbreds and helped the team to a second place finish in the US Midget Girl’s National Tournament. She is also a member of the UWRF cross country team. She is the daughter of Larry and Lorraine and has one brother. She is majoring in computer science.

Leah Baron

Leah Baron looks to be much improved from her freshman year. She will use her superb skating skills to become a team leader in 2003-04. Last season, Baron collected 15 points on five goals and 10 assists. In her senior year at Proctor-Hermantown High School, she finished with 44 points and was named to the second All-Area team. She was named a Prep Newsmaker in the Duluth News-Tribune. She set a school record for assists and also played with the Minnesota Selects in 2001. She is the daughter of Mark and Laura and has one brother and three sisters. She is majoring in health & human performance.

Kelly Doran

Kelly Doran is a first year forward for the Falcons. She was a defenseman at Wayzata High School and helped her team to the sectional finals in her junior year. Prior to that she played with the Minnesota Thoroughbreds. Doran played in the Minnesota junior festival and the Maroon & Gold series. She attended MSU-Mankato in 2002-03. She is the daughter of Jerry and Sandy and has one brother. She is majoring in marketing communications.

Lindsay O’Keefe was the Falcons third-leading scorer in her freshman year and has worked hard over the summer to improve as a high-scoring forward. She netted 11 goals and dished out 10 assists for her 21 points. O’Keefe was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for her work in the classroom. She scored 16 goals and 17 assists her senior year and was captain at Roseville High School. She helped the 1999 team to the Minnesota State Championship scoring a goal in the title game. O’Keefe played in the Maroon & Gold series and with the Minnesota Selects. She was named to the all-conference team and won the Sportsmanship Award. She is the daughter of Tim and Linda and has one brother. She is majoring in social studies.

Lou Paulson

Lou Paulson will look to lead the 2003-04 Falcons with her play as a forward. As a freshman, Paulson was second on the team in points, first in assists and third in goals (10-14-24). She was named the Falcon Player of the Week on Jan. 21 after recording a natural hat trick in the first period of a 4-2 win over St. Thomas. Before coming to UWRF she played at Proctor-Hermantown High School. She finished with 24 goals and 46 points in 2002. She also competed with the Minnesota Selects. She was named to the second All-Area team and holds school records for season and career points. She is the daughter of Bob and Laurie and has one brother and one sister. She is majoring in health & human performance.

Molly Buehner

Molly Buehner is a first-year player with the Falcons and played last year with the Cedar Falls High School boys team. She also played in the Chicago Showcase. Look for Buehner to contribute as a defensive-minded forward. She will probably see considerable playing time during penalty kills. She is the daughter of Jim and Catherine and has one brother and one sister. She is majoring in accounting.


Amy Gilbertson

Amy Gilbertson is a first-year Falcon who has shown strong offensive skills in the preseason. Last year she served as captain of the traditionally successful Farmington High School team. She received All-State honorable mention three years and holds the Farmington points record. She is the daughter of Doug and Tammy and has three brothers. She is majoring in pre-medicine.


Kelly Hurley

Kelly Hurley is a first-year Falcon with excellent offensive skills. Last year she served as captain for the Lakeville High School team. She was named the team’s best offensive player and made all-conference three years. Hurley also named All-State honorable mention her junior year and earned All-State Academic honors her senior year. The highlight of her high school career was scoring an overtime game winner in the sectional finals her junior year. She is the daughter of Ken and Tracie and has one brother and one sister. Her twin sister, Kristen, also plays for the Falcons. She is majoring in biology.


Kristen Hurley

Kristen Hurley joins the Falcons from Lakeville High School with great blue line mobility. In high school she earned all-conference honors three years and was named her team’s best defensive player all four years. Hurley also earned All-State honorable mention honors her junior year. She is the daughter of Ken and Tracie and has one brother and one sister. Her twin sister, Kelly, also plays for the Falcons. She is majoring in pre-physical therapy.


Amber Linder

Amber Linder joins the Falcons and will study under Falcon All-American goalkeeper Marlene Yaeger. In her career at Moorhead High School, earned All-State honorable mention in 2001. Linder also participated in Minnesota Selects for three years. She was her school’s Most Valuable Player in 2000. She is the daughter of Jim and Becky and has four brothers and two sisters. She is majoring in pre-medicine (biology).


Emily Nierenhausen

Emily Nierenhausen joins the Falcons as a freshman from North St. Paul High School. She has great stick handling skills. Though she played defense in high school, she moves to forward for the Falcons. Her size and work ethic will make her a valuable player to the Falcons. Nierenhausen was named to her all-conference team, the Minnesota Selects and the Junior Stars. She is the daughter of Mark and Ev and has one brother. She is undecided on a major field of study.


Allison Schaber

Allison Schaber begins her freshman year with the Falcons. She shows tremendous skills as a defensive forward with good speed and toughness in the corners. Last year she played for the St. Paul Blades. She made all-conference five years and led her team to one conference championship. Schaber played six years on the Minnesota Selects and five years with the Junior Stars. She is the daughter of Tom and Patty and has one brother and one sister. She is majoring in sociology.


Jenny Wallace

Freshman Jenny Wallace adds great stickhandling and ice vision to the Falcon blue line unit. She played high school hockey at Buffalo, Minn., and made all-conference three years. Wallace also played for the Minnesota Selects for seven years, yet she says the highlight of her career is winning the conference championship three consecutive years. She is the daughter of Richard and Nancy and has one brother and one sister. She is majoring in business management.
