Cindy Hovet starts her fourth season as head basketball coach at UW-River
Falls with the 2003-04 season.
Hovet was the interim coach during the 2000-2001 season and led the team
to an 18-8 overall record and the Falcons finished 11-5 and in a tie for
third place in the WIAC. She was named the head coach in April, 2001,
after leading the Falcons to one of the team's most successful seasons
ever. The Falcons won a WIAC tournament first-round playoff game before
being eliminated in the semifinals. Hovet was named the 2001 WIAC Coach
of the Year. The 18 wins is the most by a Falcon team since the 1988-89
season.
In 2002-03 the Falcons finished 10-15 overall and 4-12 and in eighth
place in the WIAC. The Falcons had a 9-5 record at one point of the season,
but fell on tough times during the rest of the year.
In 2001-02 the team finished 11-15 overall and 5-11 and in a tie for sixth
place in the highly competitive WIAC. UW-Stevens Point went on to win
the NCAA Div. III National Championship.
Hovet was the Falcons assistant coach for five seasons.
As a player at UW-Stout she was a two-time All-WIAC first team selection
in 1993 and 1994. She was named to the second All-WIAC team in 1992. She
was named the WIAC Player of the Year in 1994 and earned All-American
honors. She helped the Blue Devils to a 76-27 record and berths in both
the NAIA and NCAA Div. III National Tournaments for four seasons.
Hovet received her psychology undergraduate degree and coaching minor
from UW-Stout. Hovet completed her master's degree in kinesiology with
