Swim Teams Finish Sixth at WIAC Meet

Feb. 21, 2004

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams finished sixth at the WIAC Meet at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday.

For the women, Laura Schultz placed 15th in the 1650 free in 20:00.65 and Ali Meisen was 17th in 21:30.21. In the 200 back Abby Olson was 14th in 2:25.8. In the 100 free Kelly Deters finished 10th in 57.23, Logan Baker was 13th in 1:00.93 and Lucy Williams was 16th in 1:01.82. In the 200 fly Rachel Clark placed eighth in 2:22.97. In the 400 free relay the Falcon team of Deters, Baker, Williams and Schultz placed sixth in 3:55.85.

For the men, Chad Goetsch placed fourth in the 1650 free in 17:12.8. In the 200 back Ryan Hawke was 13th in 2:09.48 and Jon Jarvis was 14th in 2:10.35. Brandon VanVleet placed fourth in 48.13 and Ryan Smaagard was 12th in 50.37. In the 200 breaststroke Kyle Palmer placed 11th in 2:17.78. In the 200 fly Goetsch was eighth in 2:08.31. In the 400 free relay the Falcon team of Jarvis, Hawke, Smaagard and VanVleet placed fourth in 3:16.34.

In the men's final team standings, Stevens Point won the title with 930 points followed by La Crosse 898.5, Eau Claire 363, Whitewater 345.5, Oshkosh 311, and River Falls 303. In the women's final team standings, La Crosse won the team title with 964.5 points followed by Stevens Point 923, Eau Claire 518, Oshkosh 365, Whitewater 251.5 and River Falls 206.

Swim Teams Compete at WIAC Meet on Friday

The Falcon men's swimming team finished with 214 points and the women finished with 152 at the second day of the WIAC Meet at UW-Oshkosh on Friday.

In the men's team race Stevens Point leads with 607 points followed by La Crosse 581, Whitewater 242, Eau Claire 230, RF 214 and Oshkosh 197. In the women's standings Stevens Point leads with 630 followed by La Crosse 613.5, Eau Claire 328, Oshkosh 227, Whitewater 167.5 adn RF 152.

For the women, the 200 medley relay team of Kelly Deters, Laura Schultz, Rachel Clark and Lucy Williams placed sixth in 1:59.19. In the 400 IM Schultz placed ninth in 5:00.46 and Katrina Silverling was 15th in 5:36.97. In the 100 fly Clark was fifth in 1:00.86. In the 100 back Deters placed 12th in 1:05.01 and Abby Olson placed 16th in 1:08.54. The Falcon 800 free relay team of Clark, Logan Baker, Ashley Crunstedt and Williams plalced sixth in 9:01.49.

For the men, the 200 medley relay team of Jon Jarvis, Kyle Palmer, Ryan Smaagard and Brandon VanVleet palceeed fourth in 1:40.89. In the 400 IM Jarvis palced seventh in 4:34.21 and Palmer was eighth in 4:36.81. In the 100 fly Smaagard was ninth in 54.61 and Dan Kessenich was 14th in 1:00.55. VanVleet placed sixth in the 200 free in 1:47.27 and Palmer placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.11. Ryan Hawke placed 13th in the 100 back in 59.04. The Falcon 800 free relay team placed fifth in 7:22.7. Team members were Chad Goetsch, Jarvis, Hawke and VanVleet.

The Falcons will compete in the third and final day of the WIAC Meet on Saturday at UW-Oshkosh. Swimming starts at 10 a .m.

Swim Teams Compete at WIAC Meet

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams finished with 93 and 69 points respectively after the first day at the WIAC Championships held at UW-Oshkosh on Thursday.

For the women, the 200 free relay team of Kelly Deters, Rachel Clark, Lucy Williams and Laura Schultz finished fourth in 1:44.81. In the 200 IM Clark finished 13th in 2:19:49 and Schultz was 15th in 2:20.82. Deters finished 10th in the 50 free in 25:82. The Falcon 400 medley relay team of Deters, Schultz, Clark and Logan Baker finished sixth in 4:22.37.

For the men, the 200 free relay team of Brandon VanVleet, Jon Jarvis, and Ryan Hawke and Ryan Smagaard placed fourth in 1:27.24. Chad Goetsch finished 10th in the 500 free in 4:56.6. In the 200 IM Jarvis placed 13th in 2:05.12 and Hawke was 14th in 2:06.55. In the 50 free VanVleet placed fourth in 21.89 and Smagaard was 11th in 22.51. The 400 medley relay team of Hawke, Kyle Palmer, Dan Kessenich and Goetsch placed fifth in 3:44.41.

The Falcons will compete in the second day of the WIAC Meet on Friday at UW-Oshkosh. Action starts at 10 a .m.

Swim Teams Compete at UWL

Feb. 6, 2004

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams lost dual meets at UW-La Crosse Friday night.

The women lost, 202-34 and the men lost, 181-39.

For the women, Kelly Deters placed second in the 50 free in 26.18. Rachel Clark was second in the 200 IM in 2:22.24 and second in the 100 fly in 1:01.4. The 200 free relay team of Deters, Clark, Lucy Williams and Laura Schultz placed second in 1:46.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet won the 50 free with a time of 21.98 and the 100 free in 47.96. Chad Goetsch won the 1000 free in 10:39.27 and he placed second in the 500 free in 5:12.12. Ryan Hawke placed second in the 100 back in 1:00.45. The Falcon 200 free relay team of Brandon VanVleet, Jon Jarvis, Kyle Palmer and Ryan Smaagard placed second in 1:30.05.

The Falcons will next compete in the WIAC Meet which will be Feb. 19-21 at UW-Oshkosh.

Swim Teams Compete Against UWEC, UWW

Jan. 31, 2004

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams lost dual meets against Eau Claire and Whitewater Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire.

In the women's meets, Eau Claire topped the Falcons, 106-25 and Whitewater beat UWRF, 81-44. In the men's meets, Eau Claire won, 88-49 and Whitewater won, 77-55.

For the women, Kelly Deters won the 100 back in 1:07.05 and she was second in the 50 free in 26.66. Rachel Clark placed second in the 100 fly in 1:03.64. Laura Schultz placed second in the 400 IM in 5:12.07. The Falcon 200 free relay team of Deters, Lucy Williams, Clark and Schultz placed second in 1:48.66.

For the men, Kyle Palmer won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.79 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.48. He placed second in the 400 IM in 4:39.28. Ryan Hawke placed second in the 100 back in 1:01.55 and Chad Goetsch placed second in the 200 fly in 2:17.83. The UWRF 200 free relay team of Ryan Smaagard, Hawke, Jon Jarvis and Brandon VanVleet plaed second in 1:31.12.

The Falcons will next swim at UW-La Crosse on Friday. Action starts at 6 p.m.

Swim Teams Beat St. Mary's

Jan. 24, 2004

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams both beat St. Mary's in dual meets at the River Falls High School pool Saturday afternoon.

The women won, 125.5-102.5 and the men won, 102-55.

For the women, the 200-medley relay team of Abby Olson, Rachel Clark, Kelly Deters and Laura Schultz placed first in 2:00.86. Ali Miesen won the 1,650 free in 21:37.5 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:55.4. Deters won the 100 back in 1:06.61 and the 50 free in 26.08. Schultz took first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.55 and the 100 free in 58.59. Clark won the top spot in the 200 fly in 2:22.4. Clark swam exhibition in the 100 fly and finished in 1:00.3 which is just two tenths off the Falcon record. Olson won the 200 back in 2:29.3.

For the men, the 200-medley relay team of Jon Jarvis, Kyle Palmer, Ryan Smaagard and Brandon VanVleet won the race in 1:44.1. Chad Goetsch won the 1,650 free in 18:00.44. Jarvis won the 200 free in 1:57.67. Ryan Hawke won the 100 back in 1:02.25 and the 200 back in 2:15.78. Palmer took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.96 and in the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.26. VanVleet won the 50 free in 21.66 and the 100 free in 48.65.

The Falcons will next swim at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday against UWEC and UW-Whitewater. Action starts at 1 p.m.

Swimmers Perform Well at Hamline

Dec. 12, 2003

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams performed well in dual meets at Hamline on Friday night. The men won, 95-54 and the women lost to the Pipers, 156-81.

The men grabbed four first place finishes. The medley relay team of Ryan Hawke, Kyle Palmer, Dan Kessenich and Chad Goetsch won in 1:52.88. Goetsch also won the 1,000 free in 10:57.58. Brandon VanVleet won the 50 free in 21.82 and Ryan Smaagard won the 200 IM in 2:11.19.

The women won five events. Amy Bowe won first place in the 1,000 free in 13:49.73. Logan Baker won the 200 free in 2:21.88. Katie Bild took the top spot in the 50 free in 25.15 and in the 200 IM in 2:52.91. Laura Schultz placed first in the 100 free in 58.62.

The Falcons will next swim at UC Santa Cruz on Jan. 3.

Swimmers Compete in Titan Invitational

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams had some outstanding finishes at the Titan Invitational held Friday and Saturday at UW-Oshkosh.

The Falcon men finished with 357 points and the women finished with 250. Oshkosh,. Whitewater and Eau Claire teams also participated in the two-day event.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet won the 50 free in 21.12, the 100 free in 47.44 and the 200 free in 1:48.01. He broke his school record in the 50 free by .39 seconds. Ryan Smaagard was second in the 50 free in 22.02. The Falcon 200 free relay team of VanVleet, Smaagard, Ryan Hawke and Jon Jarvis placed second in 1:29.96. The Falcon 200 medley relay team of Hawke, Kyle Palmer, Smaagard and VanVleet placed second in 1:43.13. Jarvis placed second in the 400 IM in 4:45.06. Palmer placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.06. The Falcon 800 free relay team of VanVleet, Smaagard, Hawke and Jarvis placed second in 7:41.18. The 400 free relay team of Smaagard, Jarvis, Palmer and VanVleet won the event in 3:21.22.

For the women, Rachel Clark won the 100 fly in 1:01.54 and she placed second in the 200 IM in 2:18.95. Kelly Deters placed second in the 50 free in 25.7 and second in the 100 free in 57.31.

The Falcons will next swim at Hamline on Friday with action starting at 6 p.m.

Swimmers Compete in WIAC Relays

Nov. 22, 2003

The Falcon men's and women's swimming teams competing in the WIAC Relays at UW-La Crosse Saturday.

The Falcon men placed sixth with 40 points and the women placed sixth with 26 points. Stevens Point won the men's title with 144 points followed by La Crosse 138, Oshkosh 76, Eau Claire 60 and Whitewater 56. The La Crosse women placed first with 160 points followed by Stevens Point 116, Eau Claire 98, Oshkosh 64 and Whitewater 58.

For the men, the 200 free relay team placed third. Falcons in the event were Ryan Smaagard, Ryan Hawke, Jon Jarvis and Brandon VanVleet. They finished in 1:31.14.

For the women, the 400 medley team of Abby Olson, Rachel Clark, Laura Schultz and Kelly Deters placed fifth in 4:28.37. The 200 free relay team of Deters, Clark, Lucy Williams and Schultz also placed fifth in 1:49.06.

Women Swimmers Lose to MSU-Moorhead

Nov. 7, 2003

The Falcon women's swim team was outswam by MSU-Moorhead, 178-114.

Abby Olson, Rachel Clark and Kelly Deters led the Falcons with two first-place finishes each. Deters won the 100 free in 58.64 and the 50 free in 26.47. Olson won the 200 back in 2:28.72 and the 100 back in 1:10.24. Rachel Clark won the 200 fly in 2:29.8 and the 400 IM in 5:08.78. Laura Schultz won the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.84.

The Falcons will swim at Macalester on Saturday with action starting at 1 p.m.

Swimmers Place Fifth at Midwest Relays

Oct. 18, 2003

The Falcon women's and men's swim teams placed fifth at the Midwest Co-Ed Relays held Saturday in Eau Claire.

St. Cloud won the team title with 72 points followed by Eau Claire 61, Oshkosh 47, MSU-Mankato 35 and River Falls 26.

The top finish for the Falcons came in the 100 free relay where the team of Kelly Deters, Brandon VanVleet, Laura Schultz and Jon Jarvis finished first in 45.56.

The Falcons will next host MSU-Moorhead on Nov. 7 with action starting at 6 p.m. at the River Falls High School pool.






Swimmers Open Season Against Oshkosh

Oct. 17, 2003

The Falcon women's and men's swim teams opened their seasons Friday hosting Oshkosh at the River Falls High School pool.

The Oshkosh women took a 154-67 win and the Oshkosh men won, 111-80.

For the women, Rachel Clark won the 200 IM in 2:23.35 and the 100 fly in 1:05.99. The Falcon 200 free relay team of Laura Schultz, Emily Johnston, Lucy Williams and Kelly Deters took first place in a time of 1:49.78.

For the men, Chad Goetsch won the 1,000 free in 11:41.97. Brandon VanVleet won the 200 free in 1:51.2and the 100 free in 48.72. Ryan Smaagard won the 50 free in 23.28 and Jon Jarvis won the 100 back in 1:02.54. The 200 free relay team of Jarvis, Goetsch, Kyle Palmer and Ryan Hawke took the top spot in a time of 1:37.18.

The Falcons will swim in the Midwest Co-Ed Relays on Saturday at UW-Eau Claire.
