Four Falcons Named to All-WIAC Softball Teams

Four Falcon softball players have been named to 2004 All-WIAC teams.

Catcher Anna Poulter (Sr., Colfax, Iowa Colfax-Mingo HS) was named to the first team. Second baseman Melissa Turbak (Sr., Little Canada, Minn. Roseville HS), third baseman Emily Evans (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.), and pitcher Leah Vanderploeg (Jr., Cable, Wis. Drummond HS) all earned honorable mention.

Poulter was named to the first team in 2001 and 2003. She led the Falcons in hitting in 2004 with a .370 average. She set UWRF and WIAC records for most stolen bases in a single season (53) and she also holds the WIAC record for career stolen bases (121). She played in and started every game for the Falcons. She led the team in runs (42), hits (51), triples (2), slugging percentage (.428), one-base percentage (.416), stolen bases and attempts (53-57) and putouts (241). She finished with one double, one homer and five RBIs batting leadoff. She walked nine times and had seven sacrifices. She finished with a .983 fielding percentage.

Turbak was named to the first All-WIAC team in 2002. This year she played and started 40 games and finished with a .302 batting average (35-116). She scored 20 runs and tied for the team lead in doubles with five. She had one triple and one homer. She had a .388 slugging percentage and a .349 on-base percentage. She had 16 RBIs, finished with 10 sacrifices and stole seven bases. She had a .965 fielding percentage. She hit second in the lineup.

Evans hit .300 for the Falcons in 2004. She led the Falcons with three homers and had 17 RBIs. She finished 33-110 at the plate and played in and started 41 games. She had three doubles and finished with a .409 slugging percentage. She tied for the team lead in walks (10) and had a .368 on-base percentage. She had a .919 fielding percentage.

Vanderploeg finished the 2004 season with a 2.44 ERA and a 10-8 record. She led the Falcons in innings pitched (140.1). She struck out 113 and led the team in that category. She allowed 45 walks. She appeared in 32 games, started 20 and completed 11. She had six shutouts and combined for a seventh. Opponents hit. .257 against her.

The Falcons finished 20-22 overall and 3-13 in the WIAC.
