Falcons Play Finale at UW-Stevens Point

When: Saturday, Nov. 15 The Falcons play their final game of the 2003 season Saturday at UW-Stevens Point. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. The Falcons are coming off a 34-22 loss to league leading UW-La Crosse. UW-RF is 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the WIAC. UW-SP won a 55-21 WIAC decision at UW-Platteville last weekend. The Pointers are 4-2 in the WIAC and alone in third place. UW-SP is 7-2 overall. The Falcons will have to keep their ground game going against Stevens Point in an effort to not only score points but keep the ball away from a strong Pointer offense. UW-RF has the No. 3 and 4 rushers in the WIAC in halfback John Peterlik and fullback Owen Schmitt. Peterlik has rushed for 937 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averages 7.7 yards a carry - tops in the WIAC. He leads the WIAC in total touchdowns with 13 and is second with 80 points. Schmitt has rushed for 913 yards and four scores. He averages 5.3 yards a carry, third in the WIAC. The Falcons lead the WIAC in rushing averaging 328 yards a game. But the Falcons are sixth in scoring offense averaging 26 points a game. The Falcon defense will have to come up with a solid game plan and execute it against a UW-SP offense that leads the WIAC in scoring and is second in total offense. UW-RF is seventh in scoring defense allowing 32 points a game and sixth in total defense allowing 414 yards a game. Safety Kyle Hoegh leads the Falcons with 63 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Linebacker Matt Farmer is second with 52 tackles. He has four tackles for loss. Nate Hendrickson leads the Falcons with six sacks and Jeff Horton has four. The Pointer offense leads the WIAC in scoring (38.3 points a game) and is second in total offense (449 yards per game). In the Pointers last two games they have scored 60 points against Whitewater and 55 against Platteville. Quarterback Scott Krause leads the onslaught. He is 185-283 passing for 2,608 yards and 32 touchdowns. He has been intercepted just nine times. Last weekend he was 28-39 for 427 yards and four TDs. He was intercepted once. He is the WIAC's top rated passer and leads the league in total offense. He has twice as many touchdown passes as the second place player in the WIAC. Cody Childs leads UW-SP with 53 catches for 536 yards and four touchdowns. Tony Romano has 44 receptions for 705 yards and eight TDs. The Pointer defense has had a strong season also. They are second in
the WIAC in scoring defense allowing 19 points a game. They lead the league
in rushing defense allowing only 93 yards a game. Nick Haffele is fifth
in the WIAC in tackles with 81 and he has eight tackles for loss. Brett
Maxwell is second with 63 tackles. He has seven tackles for loss. LaRon
Ragsdale is tied for the WIAC lead with five interceptions. |
