The Falcons open WIAC play on Saturday when they host UW-Eau Claire at 1 p.m. at Ramer Field.

The Falcons come into the game well rested after having last weekend off. The break gave a banged up Falcon team time to heal.

Senior center Andy Kotelnicki, a team captain, had a career ending ankle injury in the team’s last outing against Concordia.

A young offense has been surprisingly productive in the early going, with 83 percent of the team’s total yards coming from freshmen. A rushing attack that has averaged 289 yards per game is led by freshman fullback Owen Schmitt who has rushed for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterbacks Troy Foss and Andy Kolstad have been splitting time calling signals and will continue to do so. Foss rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown against Concordia.

Defensively Kyle Hoegh and Lewis Parish are the leading tacklers. In two games this season the Falcons have surrendered nearly 500 yards per contest.

The Blugolds come into today’s game with a 1-1 record in non-conference play. Last week they lost to No. 2 ranked St John’s, Minn., 24-10.

Linebacker Jared Roeker was named the WIAC’s Defensive Player of the Week after collecting 14 tackles and two interceptions in the game at St. John’s.

The Blugolds are averaging 31 points and surrendering 22, but have been out gained in total yards 413-370 per contest.

Nels Frederickson has passed for 313 yards and two touchdowns in the early going while rushing for 39 yards. A talented receiving duo of Erik Ferguson and Matt Evensen are averaging better than 70 yards per game apiece with Ferguson hauling in two scores.

Along with Roeker on defense, Derek Sikora has one interception that he returned 71 yards for a touchdown. Mike Lansing leads the Blugolds in tackles with 25.
