Six Falcons Named to All-WIAC Football Teams

Six Falcon football players have been named to 2003 All-WIAC teams voted on by the league coaches.

Fullback Owen Schmitt (Fr., Fairfax, Va.) and halfback John Peterlik (Jr., Cadott, Wis.) were both named to the first team. Peterlik was named as an all-purpose back. Defensive end Jeff Horton (Sr., Oakdale, Minn., Tartan HS) and cornerback Lewie Parish (So., Onalaska, Wis.) were both named to the second team. Defensive end Nate Hendrickson (Sr., Prescott, Wis.) and defensive tackle Nic Rue (Sr., Portage, Wis.) both earned honorable mention.

Schmitt led the Falcons in rushing and finished with 1,063 yards. He scored five touchdowns and averaged 5.5 yards per carry. He had a long run of 68 yards. He finished third in the WIAC in rushing. His best game was a 181 yard effort against Whitewater.

Peterlik play an important role for the Falcons both running and returning the ball. He finished second for the Falcons in rushing. He rushed for 984 yards and led the team with 12 rushing touchdowns. He had a long run of 53 yards and averaged 7.1 yards per carry. His best game was against Platteville when he rushed for 324 yards and scored four times. Peterlik finished fourth in the WIAC in rushing. He led the Falcons with nine receptions for 144 yards and one TD. He completed 2-2 passes for 43 yards and one TD. He led the WIAC in all purpose yards. He had 984 rushing yards, 144 receiving yards, 541 kick off return yards. He finished with 1,669 yards in all-purpose yards. He finished second in the WIAC in kick off return yards per game. He also finished second in the WIAC in scoring with 86 points and led the WIAC in total touchdowns with 14. Peterlik was named to the first All-WIAC team in 2002.

Horton finished sixth on the team in total tackles with 34. He had 20 solo stops. he finished second on the team with nine tackles for loss and was second in sacks with five. Horton forced one fumble, recovered a fumble and broke up three passes. He led the Falcons with three quarterback hurries. Horton was named to the second All-WIAC team in 2002 when he led the league with 11 sacks.

Parish also played several roles for the Falcons. He finished third on the team in tackles with 50. He had 36 solo stops, tying him for the team lead. Parish intercepted one pass, broke up three passes and forced one fumble. He returned 12kick offs for 215 yards, a 17.9 per return average. He returned 7 punts for 69 yards and averaged 9.9 per return. He had a punt return of 15 yards and a long kick off return of 47 yards.

Hendrickson finished the season with 28 total tackles including 14 solo stops. He led the Falcons with 10 tackles for loss (37 yards) and in sacks with 6 (29 yards). He broke up one pass and had one quarterback hurry. He played in just seven of the team's nine games missing two with an injury.

Rue started all nine games for the Falcons at defensive tackle. He finished with 25 total tackles including 11solo stops. He had five tackles for loss (12 yards) and two sacks (nine yards). He had one quarterback hurry.

UWRF finished the 2003 season with a 2-7 overall record and were 2-5 in the WIAC.
