Falcon Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Feb. 19, 2001

Forward Andrea Long (6-0, Jr, Menomonie, Wis.) helped the Falcons to one win in two WIAC games last week. In the games she was 12-18 from the field and 3-3 from the line for 27 points. She had 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals and five turnovers in 65 minutes of action.

 

 

 

 

Feb. 12, 2001

Forward Melissa McKernon (5-10, Jr , Owatonna, Minn.) had two solid games for the Falcons last week. She was 8-29 from the field, including 3-11 from three-point range. She was 9-12 from the line. McKernon scored 28 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. She had five assists, seven turnovers and five steals in 53 minutes of action.

 

 

 

Feb. 5, 2001

Guard Mara Reif-Wenner (5-5, Sr, St. Cloud, Minn. Tech HS) helped the Falcons to two WIAC wins last week over Superior (78-60) and La Crosse (88-69). The wins helped keep the Falcons in second place in the WIAC standings. Reif-Wenner was 9-16 from the field, including 3-5 from three-point range for 21 points. She had 14 rebounds, 13 assists, including nine against La Crosse and two steals in 71 minutes of action.

 

 

Jan. 22, 2001

Guard Sarah Pollock (5-7, Jr, Durand, Wis.) played a key role as the Falcons beat Whitewater Saturday at the Karges Center. In the final 1:18 of the game she hit a three-pointer to cut Whitewater's lead to 65-64. She then grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a shot to put the Falcons ahead 66-65. Seconds later she forced a UWW turnover. In the game she was 5-11 from the field and 1-1 from three-point range for 11 points. She had seven rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes of action.

 

 

Jan. 22, 2001

Guard Sarah Pollock (5-7, Jr, Durand, Wis.) played two solid games as the Falcons finished the week with a 1-1 record. She was 12-21 from the field including 3-7 from three-point range. She was 3-7 from the line and scored 29 points. She also had eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals and just two turnovers in 67 minutes of action.

 

 

 

Jan. 8, 2001

Forward Andrea Long (6-0, Jr, Menomonie, Wis.) helped lead the Falcons to two WIAC wins last week. Long scored a career-high 35 points at La Crosse. She was 11-15 from the field and 13-15 from the line. She also had 12 rebounds. In the two games she was 17-26 from the field and 18-22 from the line for 52 points. She had 15 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and three steals in 48 minutes of playing time.

 

 

 

Dec. 18, 2000

Forward Melissa McKernon (5-10, Jr, Owatonna, Minn.) had a big game in the team's win over Superior. She led the Falcons with 29 points going 12-15 from the field including 4-5 from three-point range. She was 1-2 from the line. She also led the team with nine rebounds. She had three assists and two steals in 24 minutes of playing time.

 

 

 

Dec. 11, 2000

Tara Wakefield (Jr., Aniwa, Wis. D. C. Everest HS) played two solid games for the Falcons last week. She was 10-19 from the field including 4-6 from three-point range. She had seven rebounds, scored 24 points, had two assists and two steals in 53 minutes of play. "Tara has been playing very aggressive," Falcon Coach Cindy Hovet said. "She's been looking to score and has helped us on the boards. She's been a real spark for us."

 

 

 

Dec. 4, 2000

Abby Nelson (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) helped the Falcons stay undefeated overall with two strong games. In the two games she was 4-12 from the floor including 1-2 from three-point range. She was 9-12 from the line. She scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, had five assists, one block, one steal and played 75 minutes, including the entire game at Whitewater. "She controls the floor when she's in the game," Coach Cindy Hovet said.

 

 

 

Nov. 27, 2000

Forward Andrea Long (Jr., Menomonie, Wis.) helped the Falcons win the UWRF Tournament title and was named to the All-Tournament team. The Falcons had a 3-0 week winning against Bethel, North Park and Northwestern in the tournament title game. In the three games Long finished 21-29 from the field and 24-32 from the line for 66 points. She had 26 rebounds, two assists, four blocked shots and two steals in 88 minutes of action.

 

 

Nov. 20, 2000

Mara Reif-Wenner (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn., Tech HS) was the Winona State Tournament MVP as the Falcons won both games and the tourney title. She finished with 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 steals in the two games. She was 10-23 from the field, including 2-4 from three point range. She was a perfect 12-12 from the line. She also had five assists. She averaged 39 minutes a game.
