Meet the Falcons
|
Tim Duncan Tim Duncan enters his senior season with the Falcons and
will give the team some excellent leadership skills. He is a reliable
player who has great court sense. He played in 16 games as a junior and
averaged 1.1 points and .8 rebounds a game. He played in every one of
the teams last 12 games and had his best outing with an eight point,
three rebound performance against Eau Claire. He is a good three-point
shooter hitting on 14-28 (.500) in his career. In 2001 he averaged 2.3
points a game and in 1999 he averaged 2.5. He was a red shirt in the 2000
season. Duncan is majoring in political science and would like to eventually
work in a government agency like the Secret Service. He attended Marist,
Ill., High School where he was his teams MVP as a senior. He averaged
15 points a game and was named to the All-East Suburban Catholic Conference
team. Duncan was also named All-Area by the Chicago Sun Times and Chicago
Tribune. Father, Dave, is a CPA with Consolidated Wire & Cable. Mother,
Sharon works with developmentally disabled children. Sister Amy is a sophomore
at Milikin College. Brother, Ryan is a sophomore in high school.

Brian Mathison Brian Mathison is one of two starters returning for the
Falcons. He has played and started in every game in the last two years.
Averaging 8.6 points and 3.4 rebounds a game in 2001-02 he highlighted
his season by winning two consecutive games for the falcons with 3-point
buzzer beaters. He scored in double figures in 11 games with his best
effort coming against Stevens Point when he scored a career high18 points.
He had a career high seven rebounds against Eau Claire. He was named the
teams Player of the Week on Feb. 11. In the WIAC, he 13th in three-point
field goal shooting. During one four game stretch he averaged 13 points
and 3.5 rebounds a game. Mathison is a tireless worker and is one of the
top defensive players in the WIAC. In the 2000-01 season he averaged 7.4
points and three rebounds a game. Before red shirting in the 1999-2000
season he played in 18 games as a freshman, started three, and averaged
2.7 points a contest. In his career he is averaging 6.6 points and 2.7
rebounds a game. An outside threat to score, Mathison has scored 62 career
three pointers and is shooting .387 from three point range. He was a member
of the UWRF cross country team in 2000. Mathison is majoring in health
and human performance with a coaching minor. Along with teaching, he would
like to coach basketball and cross country. At Cumberland High School
he was his teams MVP as a senior when he averaged 18 points a game.
He was named to the All-Heart of the North Conference team. Mathison scored
994 career points. Parents are Wayne and Heidi Mathison. Wayne farms 500
acres milking 70 cows. Heidi is a nurse. Brothers are Nathan (20) and
Kyle (13). Sister is Carissa (11).

Kevin Widiker Kevin Widiker is in his senior season with the Falcons.
He played in three games for the Falcons in 2002 and scored three points
and had one rebound. He attended Birchwood High School and spent one year
at UW Center at Barron County and played basketball there in the 1997-98
season. At Birchwood High School, he was selected all conference in basketball
and baseball. He averaged 15 points per game his senior years as his team
went 21-3. His father, Al, is a realtor and Mother, Gloria, works for
Care Partners assisted living. He has an older brother and sister and
his younger brother, Aaron, is a junior at UWRF. He is majoring in business
administration and marketing.

Chris Becker Chris Becker had his best year yet with the Falcons in 2001-02
playing in 13 games demonstrating some very solid outside shooting potential.
Against Simpson he was 4-6 from three-point range finishing with a career
high 12 points. Chris red-shirted the 1999-2000 season. He is majoring
in accounting. He is the son of Ryan and Joan Becker. His twin brother,
Kevin, is also a member of the Falcon team. Older brother, Kent, completed
his stellar career this pas season with the Falcons. He played in the
Red Cross All-Star game and was named to the All-Heart O North Conference
second team after leading the league in assists. Spends summers working
with dad and brothers for Becker Drywall in Stone Lake, WI. Mother, Joan,
is a secretary with the Hayward School Corporation.

Kevin Becker Kevin Becker had a solid season for the Falcons in 2002
playing in every game and starting six times. He averaged 2.7 points and
1.5 rebounds a game. His best game came against Stout when he scored eight
points, had five assists and grabbed four rebounds. After red-shirting
the 2000 season, Becker played in 20 of 25 games during an injury plagued
freshman year. He started eight games and averaged 15.7 minutes to go
with 2.5 points per game. He had a superb assist to turnover margin with
38 assists to just 16 turnovers. He is a talented all-around athlete who
is one of the teams top defensive players. He is the son of Ryan
and Joan and his twin brother, Chris, is a member of the Falcon team.
Older brother, Kent, played for the Falcons for four seasons. One of the
top students on the team, he is majoring in business. Becker was named
to the All-Heart O North Conference team after his senior season
when he led Hayward High School in scoring with a 13 points per game average.
Spends summers working with dad and brothers for Becker Drywall in Stone
Lake, Wis. Mother, Joan, is a secretary with the Hayward School Corporation.

Mitch Coffman Mitch Coffman joins the Falcons as a forward/center for the 2002-03 season. He attended Cretin-Derham Hall, Minn., High School and is a walk on for the Falcons this year. He is the son of James and Karon. Coffman is majoring in land use planning. |

Matt Kukla Matt Kukla had a break out year for the Falcons in 2001-02
playing in all but one game. He started seven times. He averaged 5.2 points
and 1.3 rebounds a game. An outstanding outside shooter, he was 35-77
(.455) from three point range. He exploded for 27 points last year against
Stout. He was 10-12 from the field, including 7-8 from three point range.
The seven three pointers is second all time for the Falcons. He scored
in double figures three other teams during the season. In WIAC play, he
finished 14th in three pointers per game and 5th in three point field
goal percentage. In 2001 he played in 21 games and started two. He hit
a three pointer at Whitewater to help lead the Falcons to a 71-70 win.
Kukla is majoring in marketing communications and is in the UWRF Honors
Program. He was the valedictorian at Eden Prairie, Minn., High School
where he graduated from in 2000. He averaged 18 points and four rebounds
a game as a senior. He was named to the All-Lake Conference team as a
junior and second. He was a starter in his sophomore season when Eden
Prairie played third in the State Tournament. Kukla was named his teams
MVP after his final season. He is the son of Terry and Mary Ann. Terry
is sales manager for Flo-Pac Midwest and Mary Ann is a teacher's assistant
at Eden Prairie Family Center. Brother Joe attends UW-Madison and brother
Jacob is in 9th grade.

Rich Melzer Rich Melzer has been a mainstay for the Falcons giving the
team scoring, rebounding and shot blocking skills. Entering his junior
season, Melzer has already put up some impressive numbers averaging 18.1
points and 6.8 rebounds a game. Melzer was named to the first All-WIAC
and NABC Div. III All-West Region teams last year when he averaged 21.6
points and 7.8 rebounds a game. He was given honorable mention All-American
honors in the 2002 Street & Smith's College Basketball magazine. He
was given honorable mention to the All-WIAC team as a freshman when he
averaged 16.4 points and 5.8 rebounds a game. If he stays at his current
pace, he will finish near the top three in scoring and rebounding in the
Falcon records book. He played in every game for the Falcons last year
and was named the teams Co-MVP. He scored in double figures in every
game and had a career high 39 points against Superior. His best game came
against Whitewater when he scored 38 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. He
finished the year with six double doubles, led the team in scoring and
blocked shots and was second in rebounding. Melzer was named the teams
Player of the Week four times. In the final NCAA Div. III statistics,
he finished 28th in scoring and 33rd in blocked shots. In the WIAC stats,
he was second in scoring, third in rebounding, first in blocks and ninth
in field goal shooting. In the final three games of the 2002 season he
was 35-60 (.583) from the field with 29 rebounds and 89 points. As a freshman
in the WIAC, he finished 12t in scoring, 13th in rebounding and second
in blocks. Melzer transferred to River Falls High School from Minneapolis
Washburn after his sophomore season. He was named the 1998 Big Rivers
Conference Player of the Year and led the Wildcats to the Section finals.
He averaged 18.7 points and 10 rebounds a game in high school. He was
named to the first All-Northwest team and received honorable mention to
the All-State squad. He was a red shirt with the Falcons in 1999-2000.
He is majoring in health & human performance and business. He is the
son of Paul and Teresa Cartwright.

Nick Byl Nick Byl joins the Falcons after playing the past two years at Ridgewater, Minn., Community College. At St. Francis, Minn., High School he was named to the all-conference team and won his teams Best 3-Point Shooting award. He averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists a game as a senior in high school. He shot 41 percent from three-point range. He helped the Saints to the Minnesota State Tournament twice as a starter. His is the son of Ken and Patti. Byl has one sister, Heidi. He is majoring in marketing. |

Micah Helfrey Micah Helfrey joins the Falcons after playing at Scottsdale, Ariz., Community College. At Apache Junction, Ariz., High School he was named to the first East Sky Region team when he averaged 16 points, three rebounds and 4.5 assists a game. He has one brother, Rendall. He is the son of David and Carol. He is majoring in health & human performance. |

Josh Wacholz Josh Washolz is in his first year with the Falcons after playing the past two seasons at Rochester, Minn., Community and Technical College. At John Marshall High School he was a two-year starter and earned three letters. He averaged 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists as a senior. He was named the Rochester Winter Athlete of the Year in 1999-2000. Wacholz has two brothers, Ryan and Daniel. He is the son of Jim and Kathy. He is majoring in computer science. |

Grant Glazier Grant Glazier joins the Falcons after playing the 2001-02 season at Ridgewater Community College. He was a two-year starter at Annandale, Minn., High School where he averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists in his senior season. The Cardinals finished 21-3. Glazier has three brothers, Greg, Garett and Gavin and two sisters, Whitney and Ronda. He is the son of Greg and Connie. He is majoring in business. |

Jeff Holt Jeff Holt came off a red shirt season in 2000-01 and played
in 13 games for the Falcons in 2001-02. His best game was a six-point
performance against Northwestern. Holt is one of the best athletes on
the team will have opportunities to contribute in 2002-03. Holt attended
Elmwood High School where he was named to the All-Conference team three
times. He averaged 15 points per game as a senior. He played in the Red
Cross All-Star game. Dad, Jerry, works for Timme Construction. Mom, Jayne,
works as a legal assistant for West group in Eagan, Minn. Older brother
Ryan also works for Timme Construction. He is majoring in marketing communications.

Jesse Lam Jesse Lam became a key performer the Falcons in this past
season. He will be counted on even more in 2002-03. He played in every
game last year and started twice. He averaged 3.5 points and 1.5 rebounds
a game. His best scoring performance was an 11-point effort against Northwestern
when he was 5-7 from the field, and a season high four rebounds and four
steals in the game. He finished 39-75 (.520) from the field. He was a
red shirt for the Falcons in the 2000-01 season. He is majoring in art
education. Lam graduated from Brookfield East High School in suburban
Milwaukee. His senior season he averaged 12 points and 4 rebounds per
game. He was named to second team all conference team as a punter and
free safety. Jess was very active in the Explorer Scout program with Brookfield
Fire Department. Father, Guy, played for legendary coach Al McGuire at
Marquette University and is a partner in Milwaukee Sporting Goods Corporation.
Mother Mary is a nurse. Siblings are Guy, Jr., a recent UWSP graduate;
sister Carry, graduated from UW-Green Bay, and Kelly is a senior a Brookfield
East High School.

Daren Dummer Daren Dummer is in his first year with the Falcons after playing a key role in the Elk Mound High School basketball program. He averaged 16 points and six rebounds a game in 2002 and was his teams top rebounder in 2001 and 2002. Dummer was named to the all-conference team for three straight seasons and was his teams Most Valuable Player twice. He earned four letters. Dummer has one brother, David, and two sisters, Lisa and Lori. He is the son of Dave and Lynn. |

Nicholas Hall Nicholas Hall had a solid high school career out of Glenwood City. He averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 2002. He was named to the all-conference team in 2002 and was given honorable mention to the team in 2001. He helped the Hilltoppers to the 2001 Wisconsin State Championship and a 26-1 record. The team won the conference title in 2000 and 2001 with Hall as a starter. Hall was his teams leading rebounder and top free throw shooter. He has one brother, Scott, and one sister, Jesa. He is the son and Neil and Terry. He is majoring in math education with a minor in health & human performance. |

Eric Kossoris Eric Kossoris is in his first year with the Falcons after playing at Waukesha South High School. He earned three letters and was a two-year starter at South. He averaged 15 points, four rebounds and two assists a game in 2002. He was named to the second all-conference team and finished in the top 15 in scoring in school history. Kossoris has one sister, Erin. He is the son of Tom and Carole. He is majoring in elementary education. |

Kenneth Marton Kenneth Marton joins the Falcons after playing at Milwaukee Lutheran High School. He earned three letters and was a three year starter in high school where he averaged 15 points, five assists and three rebounds a game in 2002. He was given honorable mention to the all-conference team and was named his teams Most Valuable Player in 2001. Marton holds several school records including most three pointers in a career, most three pointers in a game and best career three-point field goal percentage. He is in the top five in scoring in school history. He is the third Milwaukee Lutheran graduate to join the Falcon program following Brian Menzel and Tony Fisher. He has one sister, Karyn. He is the son of Ken and Kathleen. He is undecided on a major field of study. |

Nick Schradle Nick Schradle was a red shirt for the Falcons last year. The talented forward was able to learn the Falcon system and he will be able to step in to help the team this year. He played for his brother, Mike, at Clayton High School. The Bears participated in WIAA state finals in 1999-00. A three-sport athlete, Schradle was named to the all conference team in baseball, football and basketball. He was a member of National Honor Society and was Vice President of the junior class. He is the youngest of eight children. Father Bill is retired from Andersons and Mother Bev is a retired nurse. |

Kenneth Uko Kenneth Uko joins the Falcons out of Richfield, Minn., High School where he was the teams captain in 2002. He was named to the all-conference team after averaging 15 points and seven rebounds a game. He has two brothers and one sister. Uko is the son of Marcus and Priscilla. He is majoring in pre-medicine. |
