Paul Shirilla joins the Falcons for the 2009 season as an assistant coach/goalkeeper specialist. He grew up in Petoskey, Mich., and earned first team high school All-State honors as a goalkeeper in 1993. He went on to be a three-year starter from 1995-97 at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and holds the record for career (22) and season shutouts (9). Shirilla also trains goalkeepers for the Bloomington Youth Soccer Association. Shirilla is an assistant professor in the UWRF health and human performance department where he coordinates the outdoor education minor. He can be reached at paul.shirilla@uwrf.edu. Shane Lanning is in his first season with the Falcons and will help coach the Falcon goalkeepers. Lanning grew up Hastings, Minn., and has a lengthy player resume as a goalkeeper that includes play on teams with Bangu FC, Hastings High School, UW–La Crosse and Viterbo University. He currently plays for Hastings FC (Minnesota Amateur Soccer League). Accolades include two State Cup Championships and Regional tournament appearances with Bangu, all-conference honors at Hastings High School, National Champion runner–up with UW–La Crosse, three Midwest Classic Conference championships, two NAIA Regional appearances and multiple all-conference athletic and academic honors with Viterbo University. Lanning’s coaching experience includes an MYSA “E” certificate, two years as club trainer for the Hastings Soccer Club, assistant Hastings girl’s varsity coach and multiple years as MYSA youth coach including Coach of the Year honors in 2004. He currently resides in Hastings with his wife, Crystal, and daughter. Addison. Crystal is the UWRF assistant athletic director and assistant trainer. |
