Golfers Finish Seventh at WIAC Championships

The Falcon golf team finished in seventh place at the WIAC Championships held over the weekend at the Northern Bay Golf Resort.

The Falcons entered Sunday's play in sixth place, but fell to seventh with a team total of 374. The Falcons finished with 1,135 strokes over the three-day event. The Falcons opened with a 374 on Friday and had a 387 on Saturday.

Kelly Gordh was the team's top finisher. She shot a 92 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 25 th place with 271 strokes. Mackenzie was second for the Falcons and she placed 34 th overall. She shot a 94 on Sunday and had a three-day total of 282.

Cyan Zengaffinen had the best round of the day for the Falcons on Sunday with an 89. She finished in a tie for 37 th place with a 292 total.

Courtney Swanson placed 43 rd with a 303 total. She shot a 99 on Sunday. Kate Gjerning finished in 44 th place overall with a 304 total. She shot 100 on Sunday.

Eau Claire's Katie Maurer won the individual title with a three day total of 227.

Eau Claire won the team title with a three day total of 963. They were followed by Whitewater 1005, Stevens Point 1039, Stout 1059, Platteville 1077, Oshkosh 1128 and River Falls 1135.

The course played at 5,808 yards and par was 73.  

Gordh was named to the All-WIAC Sportsmanship team. The All-Sportsmanship team is for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  The team included one member from each school as selected by that school. Others named to the team were: Eau Claire's Katie Swift, Oshkosh's Emily Wichman, Platteville's Tricia Pawelski, Stevens Point's Jessica Urban, Stout's Kelsey Treptow and Whitewater's Lindsay Porter.

This is the last meet of the fall season for the Falcons.

Golfers Remain in Sixth Place at WIAC Championships

The Falcon golf team remains in sixth place at the WIAC Championships being played at the Northern Bay Golf Resort.

The Falcons had a second day team total of 387 strokes on Saturday. They shot 13 strokes more than Friday's opening round.

Kelly Gordh remains the team's top golfer after two rounds. She shot a 96 on Saturday for a two-day total of 179. She is in a tie for 18 th place. Mackenzie Casey shot a second straight round of 94 and has a two-day total of 188. She is in 34 th place. Casey's 94 was the team's best round of the day.

Cyan Zengaffinen followed up her round of 101 on Friday with a round of 102 on Saturday. She is at 203 for the two rounds and is in a tie for 40 th place.

Kate Gjerning had a huge improvement from the first day. After a 109 on Friday, she came back with a round of 95 on Saturday. She has a two-day total of 204 and is in a tie for 42 nd place.

Also in 42 nd place with 204 strokes is Courtney Swanson. She shot a 108 on Saturday after a 96 on Friday.

Northern Bay Golf Resort plays at 5,808-yards and is a par of 73.

Eau Claire is still in the team lead with a two-day total of 646. They are followed by Whitewater 768, Stout 702, Stevens Point 703, Platteville 733, River Falls 761 and Oshkosh 762. Stevens Point was the only team to have a better second day total than from the first day.

The third, and final, round of the Championships will begin at 9 a.m., on Sunday.

Golfers in 6th at WIAC Championships

The Falcon golf team is in sixth place after Day 1 of the three-day WIAC Championship taking place at Northern Bay Golf Resort in Arkdale. 

The Falcons shot a day one total of 374. Eau Claire leads after the first day with a round of 316.  Northern Bay Golf Resort plays at 5,808-yards and is a par of 73.

Kelly Gordh leads the Falcons with a round of 83.  She is tied for eighth place.  Mackenzie Casey was next for the Falcons shooting a 94, which puts her in a tie for 34th place overall.

Courtney Swanson is tied for 37th overall following her round of 97. She is followed by Cyan Zengaffinen who shot a 101 finishing the day in 42nd place. Kate Gjerning rounds out the scorecard for the Falcons with her round of 109 placing her in 44th place,

Eau Claire’s Catherine Wagner leads the field with a round of 75.

Eau Claire leads the field with a round one total of 316 strokes followed by Whitewater 335, Stout 344, Stevens Point 358, Platteville 361, River Falls 374 and Oshkosh 379.

The WIAC Championship continues with rounds two and three on Saturday and Sunday at Northern Bay Golf Resort in Arkdale.

Golfers finish in 6th place at Stevens Point Invite

The Falcons golf team improved by 64 strokes over day one in the final round of the Stevens Point Invitational, shooting 380 on Sunday.  The Falcons finished in 6th place with a two-day total of 824.  Stevens Point took home the title with a two-day total of 661.  The Invitational was played at the Stevens Point Country Club, which plays at 5,801-yard and is a par of 73.

Mackenzie Casey led the Falcons shooting rounds of 92 both days to finish with a two-day score of 184.  She was tied for 14th place.

Kelly Gordh was next was the Falcons shooting a two-day total of 185.  She shot the low round for the team with an 89 on Sunday.  Gordh finished in 18th place.  Cyan Zengaffinen finished next with a two-day total of 219.  She shot a 122 on Saturday and 97 on Sunday to finish in 28th place.  Kate Gjerning finished in 30th place with a total of 236.  She improved by 32 strokes to shoot a 102 Sunday against Saturday’s 134.

Jessica Urban from Stevens Point took the medallist honors by 10 strokes over her teammate Mary Donohue.  Urban shot a two-day total of 151, highlighted by her 2-over par 75.  She shot a 3-over par 76 on Saturday.

Stevens Point took home the team title with a 661, followed by Whitewater 671, Stout 723, Plattville 730, Oshkosh 777 and River Falls 824.

The Falcons will be in action next weekend Oct. 9-11, in the WIAC Meet at Northern Bay Golf Resort in Arkdale.

Golfers in 6th place at Stevens Point Invite

The Falcon golf team stands in 6th place after the first day of the Stevens Point Invite.  The Falcons shot a 444 on day one at Stevens Point Country which plays at 5,801-yards and is a par-73.  Stevens Point is in first place after the first day with a total of 334. 

Mackenzie Casey led the Falcons on day one with a round of 92, putting her in a tie for 17th place. 

Kelly Gordh came in with a first round score of 96, which puts her alone in 25th place.  Cyan Zengaffinen shot a 122 and is in 29th place.  Kate Gjerning is in 30th place following her first day round of 131. 

Stevens Point’s Jessica Urban leads the field following her round of 76.

Stevens Point leads the invite with a team total of 334, followed by Whitewater 336, Plattville 355, Stout 363, Oshkosh 377 and River Falls 444.

The Falcons will be in action again on Sunday in the second round of the Stevens Point Invitational.

Falcons 14th at Division III Midwest Classic

The Falcon golf team finished 14th, Sunday at the Division III Midwest Classic at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, MN. The Falcons shot a shot 363 Sunday, an improvement over Saturday’s round of 372, a two-day total of 735. 

Gustavus Adolphus won the team title by 20 strokes shooting a 628.  It is the 6th straight year Gustavus has taken the title at this event.  The course plays at 5,800-yards and par is 72.

Kelly Gordh led the Falcons shooting two-day total of 172.  She shot an 89 Saturday and followed with a season-low 83 Sunday.  She finished in a tie for forty-fourth.

Mackenzie Casey was next for the Falcons shooting a 92 both days.  She finished with a two-day total of 184, tied for sixty-second.

Janae` Lyon shot a 92 Sunday following her round of 93 Saturday.  She finished with a two-day total of 185.  She tied for sixty-fourth overall.   Kate Gjerning finished tied for eightieth.  She shot a 98 Saturday and followed with a round of 97 on Sunday for a two-day total of 195.  Cyan Zengaffinen tied for ninety-fifth shooting a two-day total of 216.

Kali Griggs and Katie Schenfeld both from Gustavus, as well as Sarah Hupperts from St. Ben’s all finished tied for first with two-day totals of 154.

Gustavus won the team title with 628 strokes, followed by Wartburg 648, St. Ben’s 650, St. Olaf 651, St. Thomas 659, Carleton 666, Simpson 671, UC-Santa Cruz 672, Viterbo 677, Stout 695, Luther 722, Bethel 727, Augsburg 733, River Falls 735, Concordia-Moorhead 736, Buena Vista 737, St. Mary’s 744 and Macalester 769.

The Falcons will next be in action October 3rd-4th at the Stevens Point Invitational at the Stevens Point Country Club.

Falcons Finish 17th at Wartburg Invite

The Falcon golf team finished in a tie for 17th place at the Wartburg Invitational that concluded on Sunday.

The Falcons finished with 762 strokes and tied with Macalester.

After a round of 384 on Saturday, the Falcons improved by six strokes to post a round of 378 on Sunday.

Mackenzie Casey was the team's top finisher with a two-day total of 172. She shot 86 on both days and finished in a tie for 33rd place.

Kelly Gordh was second for the Falcons and she tied for 62nd overall with a two-day total of 184. She shot 93 on Saturday and came back with a 91 on Sunday. Kate Gjerning also improved her score. She shot a 99 on Sunday – one stroke better than her Saturday round. She placed in a tie for 80th place.

Janae' Lyon had the biggest improvement of all Falcons on day two. She shot a 102 on Sunday – five strokes better than her Saturday round. She finished in a tie for 88th place. Cyan Zengaffnen also finished at 209. She shot 104 on Sunday, one stroke better that her round on Saturday.

Washington University won the team title with a two-day total of 631. Wartburg's Ellen Rickert was the medalist with a two-day total of 150. Par at the Waverly Golf Course was 72 and was 5,866 yards long.

The Falcons will next play in the Division III Classic on Saturday and Sunday. The meet will be held at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.

Falcons In 17th Place at Wartburg Invite

Sept. 12, 2009

The Falcon golf team had its best round of the young season Saturday shooting a 384 at the first day of the Wartburg Invitational in Waverly, Iowa.

And after day one the Falcons sit in 17 th place. Wartburg College leads the field with after posting a 323 on the par-72, 5,866-yard course.

Mackenzie Casey led the Falcons with a round 86 and is tied for 26th place. Kelly Gordh is currently tied 62nd following a round of 93. Kate Gjerning is tied for 79th with a 100, followed by Cyan Zengaffinen 105, and Janae Lyon 107.

Ellen Rickert of Wartburg and Central's Eva Downes lead the field after both posted rounds of 73.

The Falcons will take part in the second of the Wartburg Fall Invitational on Sunday with the first golfers teeing off at 8 a.m.

Falcons Finish 20th at UWEC Invite

The Falcon golf team finished 20th at the Eau Claire Invitational that concluded on Sunday at Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire.

The Falcons shot a team score of 411 on Sunday at the par-73, 6,044-yard course. On Saturday the Falcons shot a 392 and they finished the two day tourney with an 803 total.

Mackenzie Casey was teh top finisher for the Falcons. She shot 3 on Sunday and finished with a 181 two-day total. She placed 62nd overall. She led the Falcons with a round of 88 on Saturday.

Kelly Gordh was next for the Falcons with a two day total of 186. She shot a 95 on Saturday and came back with a 91 on Sunday. She placed 72nd overall.

Janae' Lyon shot a 101 on Sunday and finished with a two-day total of 204 to place in a tie for 89th place. She shot a 103 on Saturday. Kate Gjerning, who shot 107 on Saturday, came back with a 116 on Sunday to finish at 223. She placed 106th overall. Courtney Swanson, who had a 106 on Saturday, shot 123 on Sunday to finish at 229 and in 107th place.

Eau Claire's Katie Maurer shot a two-day total of 151 to win medalist honors.

Gustavus Adolphus won the team title with 630 strokes followed by Eau Claire 633, Eau Claire Gold 653, St. Benedict 665, Carleton 683, Viterbo 684, Gustavus Adolphus Black 690, St. Olaf 691, Stout 699, St. Thomas 700, Whitewater 705, Stevens Point 712, Carroll 723, Platteville 732, St. Mary's 749, Augsburg 758, Concordia 762, Ripon 763, St. Norbert 779, River Falls 803 and Edgewood 831.

The Falcons will next compete in the Wartburg Invitational. The tourney will run Saturday and Sunday.

Falcons Compete in First Day of UWEC Invite

Sept. 5, 2009

The Falcons struggled during the first day of the Eau Claire Invitational Saturday at Mill Run Golf Course in Eau Claire.

The Falcons shot a team score of 392 good enough for 20th place in the team standings on the par-72, 5,814-yard course. The Gustavus Adolphus Gusties hold first place after Day 1 with a score of 306.

Mackenzie Casey led the Falcons with a round of 88 and is currently tied for 4 th place. Kelly Gordh finished the day tied 79th with a round of 95. Janae' Lyon is tied for 94th with a 103 followed by Courtney Swanson, 106 and Kate Gjerning, 107.

Gustavus' Kali Griggs leads the field with a one-over par 73.

The Falcons will take part in the second and final day of the Eau Claire Invitational on Sunday with the first players teeing off at 7:30 a.m.

Falcons Open Season at Augsburg

Sept. 2, 2009

The Falcons opened their 2009 season with a meet against Augsburg College on Tuesday.

The Auggies took the win, 399-405, in the match played at the par-72, 5,802-yard Columbia Golf Course.

Kelly Gordh led the Falcons with a round of 97 and a third place finish. Mackenzie Casey was next for the Falcons with a fifth place finish with 98 strokes. Both players performed well on the five par-3 holes. They were just three over on those five holes.

Janae' Lyon placed sixth with a 101 followed by Courtney Swanson, 109; Kathryn Theien, 110, and Kate Gjerning, 116.

Augsburg's Stefanie Zappa was the medalist with a 90.

The Falcons will compete in the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Eau Claire.
