Dear Falcon Fans,

July 11th Falcon Get Together
Close to 100 people gathered at Coach O’s place on the 11th of July. Among the visitors were Coach Mike Farley, Dr. George Field, Coach Jerome Fishbain, Professor Rick McNamara, Harold Tiffany, Sharon Larson, Harry Frokjer (1948), Jim (Cubby) Bear, Tom Carroll and MANY more including wives and children!

We have a lot of pictures which you can access here. I will try to get the names of all of those pictured when time permits.

We appreciate all of you taking time to stop by. I had a great time and cooked all 50 pounds of chicken wings! We had three left at the end of the day.

A special thank you to Dan Vande Yacht, Chris Krueger, Chris O’Brien and Phil Gribble for all of their help. I’d also like to thank Jim Steuber and Herman Luedtke from Park Falls for providing the beverage, coolers, tent, tables and chairs.

Also, Gabe Henk delivered some goods prior to the party and we all thank him.

Owen Schmitt visits RF!
Owen Schmitt visited RF in June during our Kickers Camp. He looked very ready for his second season with the Seattle Seahawks. I can tell all of you that he is very fond of his time here at RF! Although at the time his departure to West Virgina was difficult for our team it was in his best interests. I think history has proven this to be true. A big part of him is still here in River Falls! The Seahawks play both in Minnesota and Green Bay this year.

We have posted a couple of pictures (to the right) also.

Pre-Season 2009 Information

This is a special note for our incoming freshmen on August 15. Rather than checking in at the resident halls, our housing people said they would like to have you check in at our football office. So, when you report, come to our offices in Hagestad Hall and get checked in. You will receive your room key and then you can get moved in. If you check the campus map there is a parking lot right behind the Karges Center next to our offices. You can park there because it is a Saturday. Come in and pick up your room key and then you can move down to your room.

THEREFORE EVERYONE ON THE TEAM WILL REPORT TO HAGESTAD HALL FOR CHECK IN - THIS
INCLUDS UPPERCLASSMEN, TRANFERS AND FRESHMEN.

All of you need to have a couple of pairs of BLACK shorts that we wear during certain practices and when we are lifting.

Please check the June Enewsletter for other pre-season information.

Jim (Cubby) Baier Day
We will officially retire Cubby’s jersey (#33) at halftime of the St. John’s game which is at 1 p.m., on Sept. 5. We want all of Cubby’s teammates, coaches and friends to know that we are doing this and we invite all of you to come and celebrate the day.

We will gather right after the game at the St. Croix Bowling Alley (Old Bud’s) with Cubby and ALL of his friends that are in attendance. We will not have any formal speeches or a meal but I will try to have some of his games playing from DVD recordings that Harold Tiffany has done the last couple of years. IF YOU PLAYED WITH OR COACHED OR ARE FRIENDS WITH OR ARE AN ALUMNUS WHO’D LIKE TO MEET HIM YOU ARE ALL WELCOME!

1979 & 1984 Team Recognition
Our Homecoming Game this year, which is on Sept. 26 vs. Alma College (Michigan), will honor members from the 1979 and 1984 Championship teams. Dan McGinty from our alumni office is coordinating this event. Please contact him (715-425-3505; aniel.e.mcginty@uwrf.edu).

Alert/Immediate Action Needed
Dr. Daryl Herrick the Superintendant at Cedarburg Wisconsin is in need of a PE teacher and a Math teacher. He needs them for this school year so if
you are interested or know someone who might be get in touch with Dr. Herrick immediately. You can google his phone number.

Jim Benick, head football coach at New Prague Minn., High School alerted me to the fact that they have a special education opening in the district. If you are interested in special ed. and coaching call me (715-425-3135) and I will give you Jim's contact information.

Falcon Business
Mark Hauri was on WCCO (830 AM) radio recently promoting his LANDSCAPING business. It is located in Hastings Minn., and is named Natural Visions. I don’t have his contact information but if you google I’m sure you can find it. Mark played in the early to mid 90’s and was a tough guy. I know he will give you a fair deal! Tell him Coach O sent you!

O & D/Wishbone Camp
We had more than 300 campers at the Big O Big D/Wishbone Camp! This was down from the 2008 totals but because of our economy we were very pleased. It still continues to be the largest camp in the Midwest. We truly appreciate the support from all of our alumni who come to coach, bring campers, and also stop by. I thank all of you!

UW-River Falls/Kenosha Bradford Camp
A BIG success! Head Coach Jed Kennedy, a UWRF linebacker from the late 90’s, is the head coach at Bradford. He thought it was an outstanding experience for his program. I think so also! I again thank all of the RF alumni who came to coach those high school players!

Finally
I am a little late this month but my camp schedule is wild. We have the Wishbone/Big O Big D camp for four days, then I traveled to Kenosha for a four day camp and then went to Park Falls and Gilman for camps there! We’re out spreading the good news!

GO FALCONS!
John O
