Football Newsletters

May 20, 2009

Dear Falcon Fans,

Here are some general announcements for the upcoming months.

The 24th Annual Don Page Golf Outing is Monday, June 22, 2009.
Remember that this benefits ALL of our student-athletes. All of the letter awards for them are funded through this outing. Don works his tail off to get this organized and we have truly appreciated his efforts over the years. I am still looking for a foursome to play with. You know that with me as a partner we are probably out of the running in terms of winning much but we’ll have a good time. Call or email me (john.f.ogrady@uwrf.edu) if you want to play in a foursome with me. Go to: www.uwrf.edu/sports/ to find more information and a registration form.

Remember July 11 3 P.M. at 1257 River Ridge Road. This is for all alumni, friends, families and former Falcon coaches. A light meal and beverage will be provided and a lot of good old socializing will be had by all. If you are planning to come let me know. In the June Newsletter I will mention all of your names which may attract more people. Just give me your name and your final year of football here at RF! (I don't classify guys by year of graduation I classify it by the last year of football participation. Probably because it took me....well...a LONG time to graduate!)

Summer Camps are still going strong with the Kickers and Longsnappers Camp on June 27-29. The Wishbone/Big O Big D Camp from July 12–15. Send your sons and friends. These are great camps and we have not raised our costs this year.

We are also running a camp at Kenosha Bradford where we will coach the wishbone and the 3/4 defense. If you can’t get your son all the way up here to camp and you’re interested in this one contact me or check out our camp web site. (www.uwrf.edu/sports/camps.php)

We are also running a two-day camp - The Elite Camp on July 31 and Aug. 1. It will focus on the zone offense and the 4/3 defense.

Our 2009 Recruiting List can be accessed at: www.uwrf.edu/sports/football.recruitstemp.php. Check it out if you’re interested in seeing who we have coming in. This has been kept up to date but we expect a couple of new freshmen and transfers to be added.

We will be starting a new QB Club here this fall. Brochures and other information will be distributed at the July 11 get together and we will also be creating our own independent website. I’ll keep you posted.

Falcon Alumni Businesses
If you need ceramic tile work or stonework check out Tile Visions. Randy Johnson our starting QB in 1998 runs this business. Check him out at this website: tile3visions.com or email him at tile3visions@gmail.com or call him at: 651-503-1571.

If you’re looking for furniture check out Jensen’s Furniture at 101 Main Street in Luck Wis.. They have been in business for 50 + years. Jake Jensen was an intense O lineman back in the early 90’s. He is working this store with his parents. Get in touch with them at: 715-472-2487 or check their website at: jensenfurnitureluck.com

Need a Chiropractor? Contact Woody Fangmeier! Woody was a great D end for us in the mid 90’s. Contact him at: Innate Chiropractic 650 S. Main Street River Falls Wis., 54022, 715-426-9480; website is: www.gonstead.com

Do you need general construction work? Contact Chris Krueger at: 715-426-1820. His company name is Ponderosa. Chris was a great fullback from Port Washington for the transition years from Coach Mike Farley to O’Grady. He runs his own business here in town and recently built a house for Dan Vande Yacht, who played with Crhis, and is now our Registrar.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO MENTION YOUR BUSINESS PLEASE EMAIL ME @ john.f.ogrady@uwrf.edu. I am very hesitant to do this until I get your permission.

More Good News
Jim Benick who was an all-american o lineman for Coach Mike Farley’s great years in the 80’s has just accepted the head coaching position at New Prague in the Missota Conference in Minnesota. They play in a tough league with teams like Hutchinson, Farmington and Northfield. New Prague is a great town! If you are looking for a place for your son to play in a great program this would be a good location to consider!!

Miscellaneous
If you were around in 1999 and 2000 I just put a wishbone training film onto a DVD. It is a pretty good film. If you’d like a copy let me know. If any of you guys that are coaching the bone would like a copy let me know. I’ll have a nominal charge for this but we won’t be making much money on the deal!

Other News
Our new PE building has been postponed two years to the 2013-15 biennium. As a result we are pushing back the construction phase of the Ramer Field project also.

Jim Schneider, longtime friend of Falcon football, passed away on Wednesday, May 13. There will be a memorial service in River Falls on Friday, May 22 at 11 a.m., at St. Bridget’s. We will miss him!

Michael Zweifel has decided to play for his father, Stan, at the University of Dubuque. He will also be able to attend school there for free.

We have just completed our school year and we are looking forward to the summer months and our camp season. I hope that all of you are making it through these hard times. We’d really like to see as many of you at our party on July 11. I think our new Chancellor, Dean Van Galen, might have a chance to stop in along with our Athletic Director, Rick Bowen. I have already talked to numerous guys who have said they will attend. We want folks from all era’s!

Looking ahead to the June Newsletter we will announce which great team(s) we will honor at Homecoming and make an announcement about another special honor we will bestow on a great former Falcon.

GO FALCONS!
