Alma Game Wrap Well, our opponents ran 106 offensive plays for 630 yards with 37 first downs including 29 through the air……….and lost!!!!!!!!! It was an unusual game that was reminiscent of some of our games vs. Stevens Point back in the 70’s when they ran the Flying Circus offense. There were two long interceptions for touchdowns. In fact I cannot remember EVER even seeing two plays of such extreme length occurring in one game. The shorter one of the two was an 81 yard TD by Steve Marich who plays defensive end. Ben Arata had the “long” one of the day for 99 yards. Anyway my hat goes off to our defensive players and coaches. This kind of game is absolutely draining both physically and mentally. We outlasted them. With our running back Taylor Edwards back healthy he exploded for 246 rushing yards. I’m sure that Taylor would be the first to give credit to our offensive line. They were “runnin and cuttin” Alma’s defenders all day. We had to run the ball in this game. If we did not aggressively try to take time off of the clock with the running game we would just keep them in the game. We are pleased with many aspects of our offense but we need to do an even better job understanding the defensive front and blocking our assignments better. We also need to do a better job throwing the ball consistently. Our kicking game is sound and makes few mistakes. I would really like to get good at something that will put pressure on our opponents. We are not there yet in any phase of our kicking game. What a great day with a great Homecoming crowd. It was another great collegiate atmosphere! Taylor Edwards run video Go Falcons! John O |
