Player of the Week

Guard Willie Wright (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. Missouri Rolla) and guard Brady Hannigan (Fr., St. Paul, Minn. North St. Paul HS) both played two excellent games for the Falcons last week.

Wright, 6-4, 190 pounds, scored a career-high 19 points at UW-Whitewater on Saturday. He also led the Falcons with four assists. In two games he was 8-17 (.47) from the field, including 308 (.375) from three-point range. He was 4-7 (.571) from the line for 23 points. He had seven rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 70 minutes of playing time. Wright led the team in scoring with a 10.3 points per game average. He was second in rebounding with a 4.5 average. He had 54 assists and 16 steals.

Hannigan, 6-4, 190 pounds, scored a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds against Stout. In the two games he was 12-23 (.521) from the field, including 3-5 (.600) from behind the arc. He scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He had three assists, one block and one steal in 59 minutes of action. Hannigan averaged 6.6 points and 2.7 rebounds this year. He had 18 assists and 25 steals.

Guard Scott Kelly (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) played well for the Falcons in two WIAC games last week. The Falcons beat La Crosse, 73-57, and lost to Oshkosh, 80-63. Kelly, 6-5, 220 pounds, scored a career-high 24 points in the team's win over La Crosse/ He also led the team with seven rebounds. He was 8-14 from the field, including 5-9 from behind the arc. He was a near perfect 3-4 at the line. In the two contests he was 13-22 (.590) from the field and 6-12 (.500) from three-point range. He was 3-4 (.750) at the free throw line for 35 points. He had eight rebounds and seven assists in 63 minutes of action. He led the Falcons with five assists against Oshkosh. Kelly is averaging 7.6 points and 4.2 rebounds a game. He has 24 assists, seven blocks and 10 steals.

Guard Jesse Elling (Jr., River Falls, Wis.) played an important role in the team's two WIAC games last week. The Falcons won at UW-Superior, 84-841, in overtime and lost a 77-54 decision at UW-Eau Claire. Elling, 6-1, 180 pounds, scored a career-high 18 points in the win at Superior. He also had six rebounds, two blocks and a steal. In the two games he was 7-17 (.411) from the field, including 4-8 (.500) from three-point range. He was 2-5 from the line for 20 points. He finished with 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 55 minutes of playing time. This year Elling is averaging 3.4 points and 1.7 rebounds a game.

Guard DiJon Reese (Minneapolis, Minn. Riverland CC) had two great games for the Falcons last week. The Falcons topped Westminister, 77-73, and lost to No. 17 th ranked Whitewater, 88-82, in overtime. Against Whitewater he led all scorers with 25 points. He also led the Falcons with five rebounds. The 25 points is a career high and the most scored by a Falcon in a game this year. He also led the Falcons with 14 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the win over Westminister. In the two games he was 14-26 (.538) from the field, including 7-15 (.466) from three-point range. He was 4-6 (.667) from the line for 39 points. He had 11 rebounds, 10 assists and one steal in 64 minutes of playing time. Reese, 5-9, 155 pounds, averages 8.8 points and 2.6 rebounds a game. He leads the Falcons in assists (43).

Guard DiJon Reese (Minneapolis, Minn. Riverland CC) helped lead the Falcons to two wins at the Trip Sports Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. The Falcons beat Villa Julie, 99-65, and Westminister, 77-73. In the win over Villa Julie Reeese, 5-9, 155 pounds, scored a season-high 15 points. He was perfect from the field, going 7-7, including 1-1 from behind the arc. He also led the Falcons with four assists. In the win over Westminister Reese led the Falcons with 14 points, six rebounds and a career-high eight assists. In the two games he was 12-15 (.800) from the field, including 4-7 (.571) from three-point range. He was 1-5 (.200) from the line and scored 29 points. He had seven rebounds, 12 assists and two steals in 54 minutes of playing time. He had just one turnover in each game. Reese is averaging 7.4 points and 2.4 rebounds a game this season. He leads the team in assists (41).

Guard DiJon Reese (Minneapolis, Minn. Riverland CC) helped the Falcons to two wins last week. Reese, 5-9, 155 pounds, scored nine points in the team's 66-64 win at Bethany Lutheran on Saturday. He was 1-2 from the field and 7-12 from the line. He led the Falcons with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. For the two games he had seven rebounds and eight assists in 35 minutes of playing time. This year Reese is averaging six points and 2.2 rebounds a contest. He leads the team in assists (29) and has six steals.

Guard Scott Kelly (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) helped lead the Falcons to one road win in two WIAC games last week. In the team’s 79-72 win at UW-Stout, the 6-5, 20 pounder led the Falcons with 16 points. He finished the week with 27 points shooting 9-17 (.529) from the field, including a near perfect 5-6 (.833) from behind the arc. He was 4-4 at the line. He had eight rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal in 67 minutes of playing time.

Guard Courtney Davis (Sr., Milwaukee, Wis., Mesabi CC)had two solid games for the Falcons last week. UWRF lost at home to Finlandia, 84-79, and at UW-Oshkosh, 71-62, in the WIAC opener for both teams. Davis, 6-2, 200 pounds, led the Falcons with 12 points at Oshkosh. He tied for the team lead with seven rebounds. In the two games he was 11-25 (.440) from the field, including 2-6 (.333) from three-point range. He had 24 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals in 47 minutes of playing time. This year Davis is averaging a team-high 12 points a game. He averages four rebounds per contest.

Guard Willie Wright (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn., Missouri Rolla) helped lead the Falcons to two wins at the Concordia-St. Paul Classic last weekend. The 6-4, 190 pounder led the Falcons with 16 points in a 73-55 win over Peru State. In the two games he was 8-18 (.444) from the field, including 5-12 (.416) from three-point range. He was 2-2 at the line for 23 points. He had 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and two steals in 60 minutes of playing time. Willie made some real nice contributions for us this weekend and played a big part in our two victories," said Falcon Coach Jeff Berkhof. "Willie knocked down some big threes, grabbed some big offensive rebounds and played outstanding defense in both games."
