Interns indicate duties performed: This internship puts you directly into a group home setting. There are four houses scattered from Stevens Point to Wittenburg where you can live or set your own schedule. Duties involved while there include participation in group therapy work, one-on-one, daily routines to keep the youth within the group home busy and learning. Keeping an entire house of either boys or girls can be a handful, but it is well worth the time and effort you put into it.
Students identified positive aspects of this placement: The one-on-one and group therapy sessions. It is during these times that you really get to know the people in the program and understand their situations in better detail. After you have been there for awhile you start to form relationships with these youths and become a better worker through this experience. I strongly recommend this internship opportunity because of these positive aspects, and feel that I am learning a lot through this group home.
Students identified difficulties typical in this placement: Getting into this program should be an easy task, however the most difficult task to overcome is the initial days in the program. The boys (or girls, depending on the home) usually test new people to see if you're ready for what you're getting into to.
