November, 2006
YOU ARE INVITED to attend our annual high school
individual events tournament, which will be held at the University of Wisconsin-River
Falls on Saturday, February 10th, 2007.
In the past few years, we’ve made several changes in the
tournament format, based upon your suggestions. The response to the changes has been positive, and we thank
you for your help in making them.
We want this tournament to be one that best satisfies your needs and
those of your students: please let us know your reactions to it. The following information describes
tournament rules and information.
ENTRIES: A student may enter no more than two
individual events. A school may
enter a maximum of four students in each individual event; additional entries
are permitted but do not count toward school sweepstakes.
JUDGES: Each school must furnish one qualified
judge for each six entries (not students) or portion thereof. Hired judges are available for $10 per
uncovered entry (an entry for which you do not provide a judge).
FORMAT: There will be three rounds of
competition in all events.
AWARDS: Trophies will be presented to the
first, second, and third place winners in each event, based upon cumulative
ranks/ratings; certificates will be presented to fourth and fifth places. In the event of unbreakable ties, the
tied places will be reported and the sweepstakes points will be averaged for
the tied ranks. Trophies will be
presented to the first, second, and third place schools, based on this system:
5 points for a 1st, 4 points for a 2nd, 3 points for a 3rd, 2 points for a 4th,
and 1 point for a 5th.
FEES: Entry fee is $5 per entry (that is, $5
per student per event or $5 per group in Play Acting and Group
Interpretation). Payment of entry
fees and hired judge fees should accompany your entry, and checks should be
payable to UWRF Forensics. Fees,
both for entries and for hired judges, will be assessed on your entry as it
stands at noon on Thursday, February 8th.
ENTRY
DEADLINE: Monday, February
5th. If it is necessary to limit
entries, entries will be accepted in the order received. Late changes in registration should be
made to the telephone number shown at the end of this letter. All entries will be confirmed, by
e-mail, fax, or mail: if you do NOT receive a confirmation, please call to be
sure your entry was received.
LOCATION: River Falls is located on the
southeastern edge of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area, 30 miles
east of downtown Saint Paul and 6 miles south of Interstate 94 via Wisconsin
highways 35 (exit 3) or 65 (exit 10).
