Welcome!
The International Relations Club, formerly known as the Model United Nations Club, continues to be a place for those who have international interests to debate the issues of the day, organize conferences, and participate in model United Nations, among other things.Twice in the last decade, the Club won the Best Delegation awards at the annual Arrowhead Model United Nations Conference, in addition to numerous individual delegate awards. In April 2009, the Club represented Austria and Libya at the 33rd annual Arrowhead Model United Nations Conference in Mankato, Minnesota.
It was another amazing and successful conference. The students participated in six major United Nations bodies: the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Political and Security Committee, the Economic and Financial Committee, the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, and the Environmental Committee. Although the conference addressed a wide range of issues, much of the students’ work focused on the global economic crisis, nuclear proliferation, instability in Iraq and Afghanistan, piracy in the Indian ocean, global warming, and human rights abuses in Sudan, just to mention some of the more prominent topics. The UWRF is proud to have been selected as the host of the 34th annual Arrowhead Model United Nations Conference. The 34th Conference is scheduled for April 15-18, 2010, and more details will be provided as they become available. If you were a member of either the International Relations Club or the Model United Nations Club, please contact Wes Chapin. We would love to hear from you, to learn your stories about your experiences as a participant, and to build a list of members from past years. 2009-10 IR Club MembersPresident Tom Justesen For more political science informationProfesor Wes Chapin, Chair and IR Club Advisor |
