Why Study Engineering at UWRF?• Small class sizes, typically 10 - 30 students. Yes, your professors will know your name and they will spend time getting to know you. • Quality instruction and extensive interaction with your professors. Our faculty are dedicated to teaching and advising. • Classes and labs are always taught by faculty with PhDs, never by teaching assistants or graduate students. • Fewer problems with full classes – you will always be able to get the physics and engineering courses you need. • Students receive plenty of accurate advising and updated course planning every semester. Advisors are available to answer questions at any time. • UW-River Falls is an excellent value with inexpensive tuition and free use of textbooks. Minnesota students pay Wisconsin tuition rates. • Guaranteed admission to the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities’ Institute of Technology (College of Engineering) and the University of Wisconsin – Madison College of Engineering (with minimum grade point average, usually about 3.0). • UW-River Falls has engineering agreements with the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and the University of Wisconsin - Madison, two of the best engineering universities in the country. In the 2005 U.S. News & World Report undergraduate school rankings, UW-Madison’s engineering program was ranked as the 6th best among public universities and the University of Minnesota’s engineering program was ranked 9th. • UWRF has a beautiful campus with lots of trees, green space, river, woods, and trails. A brand new student center next to the science building will be the inviting activity hub of campus. Yet UW-River Falls is just 30 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul, MSP airport, the Metrodome, and the Mall of America. • Excellent employment prospects. In Job Outlook 2006, published by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, engineering degrees were 11 of the 17 degrees in top demand. • Excellent starting salaries for engineering graduates. • Many fields of study are available:
• Scholarships, research assistantships, and internships are available. • The UW-River Falls physics department has a cooperative, comfortable atmosphere where students work together in a roomy lounge/library area. • An active Society of Physics Students Club. • In the UW-River Falls physics department, students can pursue research projects as an undergraduate. Previous students have worked with professors on liquid crystals, optical traps, spectroscopy, astrophysics, and construction of experimental detectors. Undergraduate research projects are a great experience for future jobs or graduate school. • All students are invited to explore the dual degree and pre-engineering programs at UWRF. Women and minorities will find a small, supportive environment in the UWRF physics department where 30 percent of faculty are women and all faculty are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all physics and engineering students.
