UW-River Falls Physics Department
Glenn Spiczak
Dr.
Spiczak joined the Department in the Fall of 2001. Prior to coming to
River Falls
he was a research scientist at the Bartol Research Institute of the University of Delaware studying Cosmic Rays (using
SPASE, South Pole Air Shower Experiment). The goal is to learn more about the
composition, origin and acceleration mechanisms of cosmic rays by studying the
resulting debris of high energy particles that rains down on Earth's surface
after one of these nuclei collides with a nucleus in Earth's atmosphere. This
work continues at UWRF and now includes the proposed IceCube cubic-kilometer
scale neutrino telescope under construction at the South Pole.
He earned both his B.S. and Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Indiana
University, Bloomington, IN.
