2005 Physics Reunion Event

Celebrating Einstein's miraculous year, WYP(the World Year in Physics)

In 1905 Einstein amazed the physics community with a series of ground-breaking papers. To celebrate the centennial of that miraculous year, 2005 has been proclaimed the World Year of Physics. Various celebrations were planned all around the world, more information can be found at the WYP website linked here. As one part of this celebration, UWRF held a number of events on April 28, 29 and 30.

Schedule of Events

Thursday April 28

· 4:00 p.m. Stellar Winds lecture by Dr. Anthony Moffatt, University of Montreal

· 7:00 p.m. Dust Spirals Shapley Astronomy lecture for the general public by Dr. Moffatt

Friday April 29

· 12:20 p.m. Nuclear Reactions in Stars seminar by Dr. Moffatt, Room 114 Centennial Science Hall (CSH)

· afternoon: informal tours of the physics department

· afternoon: career tips from a few alumni

· 5:00 pm, open house, 6:30 pm, casual dinner at Jim Madsen's house, 126 North Third Street, (715) 425-8631

· Evening: see our new telescopes in action at the Observatory, 3rd floor, CSH.

Saturday April 30

· 10:00 to 12:00 Campus and Department tours, as well as demonstrations by the UWRF Society of Physics Students

· noon lunch

· 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Time to share experiences! Hear what alumni and retired faculty have been up to.

· 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Social hour and student poster session in Rodli Commons.

· 6:30 Dinner

· after dinner: induction of new members of Sigma Pi Sigma, the Physics Honor Society

· Final event: Auroras a talk by Dr. Andreas Keiling, University of California - Berkeley
