Professor McCann earned his B.S. in Physics from UW-River Falls and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

His research interests include studies of the dynamics of Brownian particles in optical traps, fluid diffusion in porous materials, and spectroscopic analyses of corrosion in ancient metals. Interested students are always encouraged to become involved in research projects.
