The Physics Department set up a Haunted Lab on Oct. 30, 2008, scaring and/or educating approximately 75 people with a variety of physics demo's.

The Physics Department Fall Picnic took place Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008 at the West Shelter at Glen Park (on Park Street, turn right two blocks past Cascade Ave.)

The Physics Department Spring Picnic took place on May 7, 2008 at Glen Park. The weather was great and a good time was had by all, eating fried turkey, grilled burgers, playing bocce and ultimate frisbee, among other things.

The annual Physics Department Banquet was held on Friday, April 25 at the Gausthaus German Restaurant in Stillwater, MN. Our Guest speaker was Dr. Jan Yarrison-Rice from Miami University of Ohio. This banquet was also the induction ceremony for new members of the Sigma Pi Sigma physics honor society, where we tied (or exceeded) last year's record number of inductees.

Bowl for Kids Sake happened on Apr. 12, 2008.

Laurie Carrillo

The SPS Zone Meeting was hosted at River Falls this past spring, April 11-12, 2008. Our keynote speaker was Laurie Carrillo from the NASA Johnson Space Center, who is working on the VASIMR rocket engine that uses million degree plasma.

Planetary Convergence

The Physics Department hosted Visiting Professor Dr. John Jacobsen April 4-6, 2007. John is a collaborator on the IceCube neutrino telescope project, in addition to being an artist and an entrepeneur. Dr. John Jacobsen, NPX Designs, Inc. Programming and IT Consulting Service (http://www.johnj.com/index.html). His Artwork Exhibit was displayed in Chalmer Davee Library throughout the month of April.
