UW-River Falls Prairie

Location:
The UW-River Falls Prairie is a narrow strip of land that runs on either side of the old railroad bed that is located south of the South Fork of the Kinnickinic River on campus.  The railroad track bed is currently a walking and biking path which connects the main campus to a nearby laboratory farm.

Objectives:
The UW-River Falls Prairie is ecologically a valuable prairie remnant and restoration site.  The site is used to promote and foster a greater understanding of prairie ecology among campus residents and individuals throughout the regional community.  The site provides educational opportunities through a variety of activities including class laboratory activities, undergraduate research projects, service learning projects, community education programs and high school field experiences.

Coordination of the Management and Educational Activities:
The UW-River Falls Prairie Group in collaboration with the UWRF Laboratory Farms currently coordinates the site management activities and educational endeavors.   The UW-River Falls Prairie Group is open to all members of the campus and River Falls community.  Contact with the group can be made through the Director of the Laboratory Farms in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at 715-425-3535.
